June 2013

June can be a highly pleasant month — intoxicating, seducing, and able to weave a mystical, magical sensibility.

We could easily find ourselves expanding our projects, confident that the good times are here again, and assuming that everything will go right, nothing can go wrong. La-de-da.

As Oscar Hammerstein II wrote for the Broadway musical Carousel: ‘June is bustin’ out all over.’

This June lives up to the sentiment. The month has both a highly pleasant aura and an upbeat, exuberant quality to it. There will be days when we feel as though we are walking on sunshine [to borrow the title of the 1985 song by Katrina and the Waves].

The increased energy of planets moving into Cancer, with Mercury at the end of May, Venus on the 3rd of June, the Sun on the 21st-22nd and Jupiter on the 26th, gives this month a lilting quality with a Grand Trine in the Water Element as the Cancer-transiting planets trine Neptune in Pisces and trine Saturn in Scorpio.

There can be a great deal of emphasis on family matters with celebrations of graduations, weddings and reunions; home involvements with building construction, renovations and redecorations; and a sense of comfort and sanctuary where we can dream a little dream in panorama, Technicolor and holographic images.

Life is grand in this month of June. We do not want any naysayers to our idyllic feelings, even if those feelings can defuse the hard, cold realities going on by fostering a meandering through illusions and delusions. Isn’t life grand?

While our emotions and moods can be strong this month, with the likelihood of increased precipitation and evidence that ‘when it rains, it pours’, we also need to be cognizant of these times of dramatic and radical change, times when things can change in a nanosecond. One moment, our reality may seem one way, the next moment our reality completely altered.

At times during June, it may feel as though we are on a hallucinogenic trip, with some psychedelic, mind-expanding, inspired thoughts and visions or with ghoulish and nightmarish feelings as the ground seems to move under our feet.

With the Cancer-transiting planets creating a Grand Trine in the Water Element, the Cancer-transiting planets also create a Cardinal Sign T-Square triggering the Uranus Pluto square with the Cancer Planets opposed Pluto in Capricorn and the Cancer planets square Uranus in Aries. This is not our parents’ world, much less our world of five – ten years ago, and some times even our world of five minutes ago.

Life has changed. We are living in transformational times, times when we need to let go of old programs. We might have to acknowledge that we do not have an instruction manual to deal with these times, but we may have developed the skill set to successfully cope. Within our skill set, we have the tools of awareness and mindfulness, flexibility and adaptability. We may not know where we are going, but we can compliment ourselves that we have the talent and perseverance to get to wherever we are headed.

This T-Square can find us dodging curveballs, matters that might arise out of the blue, and unexpected variables that turn our plans to dust.

The month begins with the Sun sextile Uranus. We are looking towards summer, making our plans, and seeking out the new and the different that are reflective of a new and different sense of self. No matter how shy or reticent we might be, we are interested in taking a stand, putting our creative spin on our projects and accentuating the unique characteristics of our individuality. The manner in which we present ourselves can be dramatic with flair and panache and an ability to communicate to each and everyone our talents and our abilities. No sitting on the sidelines for us this month. We want to be engaged, and engaged in a way whereby we can put our mark and creative spin on everything that we are doing.

Recognizing that life has changed, we are likely to acknowledge the changes within ourselves and affirm such changes by new approaches, new interests and new involvements.

There will be times this month when we look to step out on center stage, other times when we seek the comfort and sanctuary of our home and family.

The march of planets into Cancer continues on the 2nd – 3rd with Venus entering the Moon ruled-Sign, followed on the 3rd – 4th by Cancer-transiting Mercury triggering the Water Element Grand Trine with Mercury trine Neptune in Pisces and Mercury trine Saturn in Scorpio. Not only might we be feeling far more compassionate, caring about the ills of the world and the wounds of those people close to us. We may also find our intuitive side, our feeling nature, providing us important information as to how best to realize our goals at the least amount of expense. We could sense that our personal destiny is calling us to speak our piece and in our talk giving our case and our cause both a philosophical overview and a detailed strategy as to why we believe the things we do.

As we increase the influence of Cancer through the month of June, it would be important to recognize that the power of WOMAN will also increase. Although there is a certain softness in regard to the Cancerian nature and woman herself, we would be ill-advised to associate softness with weakness. On the contrary, we may discover that when passionate determination is enlisted the softness becomes tenacity and a willingness to bear any injustices on the short term for right action on the long-term.

Two phrases sum it up best, the first from Theodore Roosevelt: ‘speak softly and carry a big stick’.

The second often attributed to the likes of the recently-passed Margaret Thatcher: ‘an iron fist in a velvet glove’.

This quality can be seen throughout this month of June with the juxtaposition of the Cancer-transiting planets creating the Water Grand Trine followed by the Cancer-transiting planets creating a Cardinal Sign T-Square. The gentle reveries and soft appearances can give way to rugged persistence and intense assaults.

While not necessarily triggered by scorn, the age-old saying may be played out throughout this month of June: ‘hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.’

If the nurturing, supportive approach does not work to entice consideration, acceptance and compliance during this month, then the righteous indignation can be engaged to virtually move mountains and demand attention at the very least, agreement and support as the intended result.

In the dark side of the Moon on the 7th, just prior to the Gemini New Moon on the 8th, the energy can ratchet up significantly. Venus in Cancer triggers the Grand Trine with Venus trine Neptune and Venus trine Saturn. Neptune turns retrograde on this day and Mars squares Neptune. Around this same time, Mercury triggers the T-Square with Mercury opposed Pluto and Mercury square Uranus.

This period can be a highly confusing time and is also indicative of the paradox of this month — the gentle approach with a sledgehammer waiting beside in case the quiet manner does not accomplish its intentions. Things can change dramatically during this period and over the next fortnight with the next two weeks a roller coaster of quiet times and frenetic times.

Around the 7th – 8th, we may become aware of problems with travel and I would advise caution when driving, flying, boating, biking, walking. Accidents could occur through negligence and being asleep at the wheel. Communications can be off with hackers and interstellar interference creating difficulties with Internet, computers and high technology. Even natural catastrophes can be percolating with news of volcanic activity, earthquake phenomena, intense storm systems and cyclonic winds. This could also be a time when lies are exposed and protests against the powers-that-be increase.

This New Moon configuration and its two week influence could prove to be the last hurrah of the Jupiter transit through Gemini, a Sign in which Jupiter is in Detriment and uncomfortable with clarity lost to dissonance and scrambled signals. We may have been led down the garden path, merrily humming strains from ‘Happy days are here again’, only to come to a burgeoning realization that all’s not right in the world or across the landscape.

For us to truly get a sense of what is and has been going on, it will be essential that we willingly pull back the Wizard of Oz screen to see the little guy pulling the strings. Through due diligence and perseverance, we can get a sense of the landscape with its vast array of changes and impending shifts.

On the 11th – 12th, Venus triggers the Cardinal Sign T-Square with Venus opposed Pluto and Venus square Uranus. At this time, Saturn trines Neptune. Relationships could prove dicey at this point. We may feel as though those people that we thought we knew so well reveal some schizophrenic characteristics, a Jekyll and Hyde quality, where their attitudes, decisions, actions, and behavior can change radically and dramatically without a moment’s notice. This is also a time when questions about the empirical statistics of the housing market recovery are called into question. We might see the housing recovery in a different light, whereby we become aware that the increased sales of single family residences is not associated so much with couples and families going out and buying homes, but rather large investor pools buying up a large swath of single-family residences. Some of the veneer of the housing recovery might come off as we see the figures in a different light.

The 17th and 19th can be a huge crescendo of irrational exuberance and impulsive actions. On the 17th, Mars transiting Gemini sextiles Uranus in Aries, and on the 19th the Sun finishing its transit of Gemini conjuncts Jupiter. Our decisions and actions can be made more from optimism and hope than based upon the reality of the situation or an intensive critique of what is really going on. There can be an avalanche of good news, all of which may be more suppositions than long-term conditions. It would be wise for us not to get swept up in the euphoria or to act impulsively.
This is a time when we could overreach, act without fully considering our intentions, and assume that everything will turn out just right and just the way we want it to.

The Summer Solstice, the day with the greatest daylight in the Northern Hemisphere, and the day when the Sun moves into Cancer, occurs on the 20th – 21st. Here comes Summer! We now have a Stellium of three or more planets in the Cardinal Water Signs, about to be added to on the 25th – 26th when Jupiter enters Cancer. At the time of the Summer Solstice, we have Mercury conjunct Venus and six planets in the Water Signs… Feelings, lots and lots of feelings… Our entire being is likely to be colored by our moods, our sensitivities, our feelings.

The 23rd has the Capricorn Full Moon and a most interesting chart pattern — the kite. The opposition between the Sun and Moon is mitigated by the Moon sextiling both Saturn and Neptune, both of which make up a Grand Trine with the Sun. The balance between our home lives, our personal lives and our lives in the community, our work lives, can be found through having a vision of what could be, all the while developing a structure and format by which to realize our dreams. We can be highly astute, extremely adept at creating a perfect world for ourselves, just as long as we maintain humility, write our plans down in pencil and have a large eraser at the ready to shift and adapt to changing circumstance.

The past few years have tenderized us, hopefully made us more malleable and increased our awareness that life no longer follows a sequential, linear pattern, not even a long and winding road. We have entered a ‘new normalcy’, a time when asequential reality, non-linear incidents and events occur almost like happenstance. Serendipity, synchronicity and out of the blue are our new realities, or on the flip side zemblanity, malandipity and other unfortunate and unexpected incidents. The changes are not always what we anticipate, sometimes better than we could imagine, other times curveballs that we need to deal with the best that we can.

On the 25th – 26th, Jupiter ends its year-long transit of Gemini to enter Cancer. This movement increases the Stellium in the Cardinal Water Sign as Jupiter joins the Sun, Mercury and Venus in the Moon-ruled Sign. Our focus can turn to god, country and family. The expansionary energies of Jupiter in Cancer can prove beneficial for real estate, housing, families, births and the US itself, since the US is a Cancer nation. There may be a tendency to concentrate on ‘me and mine’, which could also increase a sense of nationalism and national pride. We might consider redecorating, renovating or adding on to our homes. Our home is our castle and especially with Jupiter going through Cancer.

On the 26th, the Sun creates the Water Grand Trine with the Sun trine Saturn and the Sun trine Neptune. This day also has the second of this year’s three Mercury retrogrades. Retrograding through Cancer, Mercury asks for us to take a walk down Memory Lane.

As Carlos Castaneda wrote about in his last book, The Active Side of Infinity, there are times when we need to go fully back into past experiences in order to expunge past behavior patterns, release inculcated attitudes and eliminate conditioned learned responses, all of which may be tainting our present-day involvements and toxifying our life experience. Often, we are captive to our past, those early incidents in our life’s journey that program our present day behavior, decisions and actions.

This Mercury retrograde not only allows us to look into the mirror and reveal the ghosts of our past. We may find that various family matters arise that need to be reconciled. We could experience a greater reticence and a liability to fall back on the ‘tried and true’ rather than forging ahead in innovative and unique ways. We might decide to feather our nest, fix up things around our house, and seek the sanctuary of our home rather than carousing out and about.

Whenever a planet goes retrograde, we are asked to go back over situations that we experienced during the recent past, see if our decisions and actions were well-considered, and refine and hone those areas that need to be further developed or re-worked.

With Mercury turning retrograde, we also need to realize that Murphy’s Law of ‘whatever can go wrong could’ is once again put into effect. Our communications can be off. We could have travel problems and computer issues. Decisions made and actions taken during a Mercury retrograde often need to be readjusted once Mercury turns direct. This Mercury retrograde runs from the 26th of June into the 20th of July.

On the 27th, Venus exits Cancer and enters Leo. With Venus in Leo, we might be grandstanding, showing ourselves off in the best possible light and looking to be on center stage. We are interested in the great pleasures of life and could seek out those who not only allow us to shine brightly but also provide a receptive audience for our grand designs. Social occasions, fun events and distant travel can intrigue us and draw us into participation. We may feel that we are on top of the world and want to rub elbows with those people of wealth, success and distinction. Stepping out and into the spotlight can be highly pleasure, especially with us ‘puttin’ on the Ritz’.

All in all, June can be an enjoyable month as we carom from Grand Trine to T-Square always able to find the sanctuary in the sanctity of home and family.

June 2013… bustin’ out all over…
