Jupiter in Cancer

On June 25th – 26th, Jupiter ended its yearlong transit of Gemini to enter Cancer and Jupiter began its yearlong transit of the Cardinal Water Sign into July 16, 2014. Jupiter was in Detriment in Gemini, the Sign opposite the Sign it rules, and where Jupiter was not comfortable. Communications were glib, shallow with little depth or understanding. Much talk, little results.

Jupiter in Cancer is in Exaltation, a Sign where Jupiter is highly comfortable and can shine its light of exuberance, confidence, optimism and expansion on the various attributes of the Cancer Sign.

The curious thing about this particular Jupiter transit of Cancer is the fact that it triggers both a Water Sign Grand Trine with Jupiter trine Neptune and Jupiter trine Saturn and a Cardinal Sign T-Square with Jupiter square Uranus and Jupiter opposed Pluto.

Everything expands under Jupiter, and with Jupiter in Cancer the Water Grand Trine can have water, water everywhere. Our moods and emotions will be heightened. While areas of drought will continue, there will also be localized areas of intense precipitation where ‘when it rains, it pours’. Flash floods and record precipitation are conditions we might have to expect.

The Cardinal Sign T-Square with Jupiter square Uranus and Jupiter opposed Pluto is likely to ratchet up the extreme turbulence and the swift-moving changes that have gone on since 2008. The world is not the way it has been, and the world will NEVER return to the way it was.

Excessive assumptions can be made with Jupiter and the likelihood of speculative risks in equity markets, real estate, commodities and the like can be strong and based more on a ‘feel good’ attitude than solid evidence or due diligence. The liability towards whipsaws in emotions, actions and decisions can be extreme.

Since Cancer rules, home, family, mother and the familiar, we may see all of these areas being highlighted. Real estate, home buying, home renovating and home redecorating can step up, but we would have to be wary of another housing bubble that could eventually implode, again.

Cancer rules the US chart and we may see an increase in national pride, and all countries looking more and more to their national interests. While the idea of regional affiliations, such as the Eurozone or North American Treaty Alliance or the United Nations, may seem appropriate moves for our future, during this year we might find a greater national sentiment, an enhanced sense of native culture and a tendency to look for similarities akin to embracing only ‘me and mine’.

This element of nationalism was seen the last time Jupiter transited Cancer back in 2001 and at the time of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. A desire for security that Cancer craves can also be seen by the willingness of Americans to accept the Patriot Act and overly protective behavior that often seems overly controlling and limiting to individual rights, all under the guise of keeping us safe and sound. But at what cost?

Cancer is a nurturing Sign and with Jupiter transiting we might find ourselves nurturing ourselves, eating and indulging more, especially sweets. In so doing, we might find the expansiveness of Jupiter going to our waistline as we feed ourselves and in the process grow larger.

With the emphasis on home and family, we may do more of our entertaining at home, barbeques and pool parties and just hanging out with all our media entertainment at our fingertips.

After the economic anxieties of the past few years and the spin of an economic recovery in process, young adults may look to have children, a desire they may have put off until feeling secure to do so. There can be a baby boom with Jupiter transiting Cancer.

With all the changes that have gone on and continue to go on both in our personal lives and in the world at large, people may want to put the brakes on radical changes and prefer to fall back on the ‘tried and true’. While there can be the desire to engage the familiar, the ‘tried and true’ might be tried but will prove no longer true.

As Cancer is ruled by the Moon and indicative of the Mother, this year of Jupiter transiting through Cancer is also the year of WOMAN.

Even in a misogynistic society as the US, people may have to stop, take note and heed the call of what became the anthem for the women’s liberation movement, the 1972 song I Am Woman by Helen Reddy with its lyrics:

“I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
’cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman”

Or to borrow a line from one of my favorite movies, 1978’s Foul Play: “Nobody’s gonna mess with Stella unless Stella wants to be messed.”
