September 2013

September can be a most productive month, a time when we can employ our energy and strength to bring about fundamental changes to our planned ambitions and to the ways we do things. We are considering both the big picture of the gestalt of our lives and the smaller perspective of the specifics and the details that compose our lives.

In our determination to engage fundamental changes to our lives, we might feel the need to be sure of ourselves before we begin, however, it would be wise to keep in mind that certainty during these times is an illusion. In truth and in today’s reality, things can shift and change in a nanosecond and without a moment’s notice. But once engaged, we can develop a means to accomplish our ends, all with the recognition of the need at any moment to adapt to changing conditions. These are exciting times in which we live, times that realize the old Chinese proverb, sometimes considered a curse: ‘May you live in interesting times.’

In deed we do.

The month begins with the long Labor Day weekend in the US, often considered the unofficial end to summer, the ringing closure to time taken to step off the track of our daily lives and the harkening of getting back into the rhythm of our daily living. In the interim, so much has changed, whether those changes have been external modifications to our lives or internal percolations of new growth and shapeshifting that impels radical transformations in how we are doing our lives.

The Virgo Sun trines Pluto on the 1st to begin the month. We may take the time to contemplate what is truly important to us, what the essential purpose of our being is and how we can expeditiously bring about the necessary shifts to fine tune who we are becoming and where we are going and how we are getting there. Our focus and our intention may be incisive with us stripping away the non-essential, the superfluous and the absurd. Our truth is our integrity and we are looking at concentrating on the most meaningful, all the while doing away with those activities and involvements that are but a mere waste of our time.

The New Moon in Virgo on the 5th of September also starts the Jewish New Year with Rosh Hashanah. And a new year it is for all of us as the energy reinforces our focus on our responsibilities, our obligations, and our involvement in the community for the greater good.

Our ambitions can be increased, but our ambitions may revolve around how we can create the best of our worlds in our own personal lives. We may shake our head and be aghast at the old programs of bellicose, aggression and nonsensical wastes of time as people, groups and nations seek to arm wrestle and control situations. The old paradigm with its outmoded ways and irrelevant goals may stare us in the face, but we are likely to divorce ourselves from the craziness and crazy-making tendencies of those reliant upon the old paradigm of control and mastery. We have seen, witnessed and experienced that control is an archaic concept that no longer plays in the asequential reality of today when the universe is at play and things occur in the most seemingly random manner with us needing to be fully aware and ever mindful. These times call for us to do the tai chi moves of working with the energies to engage the wondrous opportunities but to also sidestep and avoid the body slams.

This early September may be a time for us to mindmap our future intentions, putting down on paper where we hope to go, what we hope to do, who we hope to be. In so doing, it would be wise that we write in pencil with a large eraser, understanding that circumstances and conditions may shift and change, altering our intentions. It would be wise for us to keep in mind the sage saying that ‘the universe has far greater plans for us than we could ever imagine for ourselves.’

Can we trust in the universe? Or will we feel that we have the wherewithal to pull the rabbit out of the hat? The Sun sextiles Jupiter on the 7th, and we could easily buy back into a sense of our omnipotence and invulnerability based upon our optimism and self-confidence. If we fall prey to irrational exuberance and self-aggrandizement, we could be setting ourselves up for a nasty fall [and autumn].

There are several shifts as we come into the second week of September. Mercury exits it own Sign of Virgo to enter Libra on the 9th, the same day that Mars squares Saturn. Our sense of omnipotence could be thwarted by our lack of resources and by our unwillingness to consider all the possibilities, liabilities and contingencies.

Humility is called for during these times of unanticipated variables and unexpected incidents arising to question and challenge our mastery of situations. If we become too proud, too full of ourselves, we could experience slap downs and takedowns by the twists and turns in the universe unfolding.

Venus exits its own Sign of Libra on the 10th – 11th to enter Scorpio, a Sign of its Detriment where Venus is not at all at home. Venus trines Neptune on the 13th-14th.

During this second week of September, we could have a desire to work in harmony with other people, or that desire might actually be a need. Either way, we have to be wary of harboring resentment with a belief that we are being taken advantage of and not being fully appreciated for who we are and what we are capable of doing. Our actions may be too much, or too little. There can be saber-rattling but with little to back up strong intimations. We could easily misread other people’s intentions and base our actions on what we perceive to be happening rather than the actual situation at hand.

Mercury transiting Libra triggers the Cardinal Sign T-Square with a Grand Cross as Mercury squares Pluto on the 14th, Mercury opposes Uranus on the 15th – 16th, and Mercury squares Jupiter on the 19th.

This mid-September period can have a great deal of talk and intense communications. With a perceived attitude of interest in the other person’s well-being, people can be cutting and critical in their discussions with judgments and opinions offered that are largely self-serving.

The weekend of the 14th – 15th would be one of my least favorite times to fly. And we have to maintain a sense of social decorum to avoid conversations ratcheting up into heated arguments.

While the Cardinal Sign T-Square is triggered by Mercury creating a Grand Cross, Venus triggers the Water Sign Grand Trine. Venus in Scorpio trines Neptune on the 13th – 14th, Venus conjuncts Saturn on the 18th and later in the month, on the 26th, Venus trines Jupiter. Our interactions with other people may be slightly enigmatic. There can be a mystique in dealing with others and a reliance on those people we feel we can depend upon. But is our dependence reliable? Or are we doing the dance with the trickster, someone appearing one way, the reality being something other?

Impetuous actions can be taken around the 13th – 16th. We may not have all the information or we could misread the clues offered us, but we are still likely to push forcefully forward without care for consequences of our actions. We have the Cardinal Sign T-Square operating and the triggering of the Water Element Grand Trine. In addition, Mars trines Uranus on the 14th. These energy configurations can impel attitudes and decisions that might be a little too extreme with a bias towards bravado and wanting our own way. We may not know where other people are coming from, and we might feel the need to be ever more forceful in our approach. This period is a time for us to take the energy and our reactions to what is going on around us down a notch or two or more.

This latter part of the Summer could prove heated — both in our ideas, thoughts and presentations, and in our interactions with other people.

The Pisces Full Moon on the 19th of September can be a time of still waters run deep, or things percolating below the surface over the earlier two weeks. A highly emotional time, there can be some intense releases in explosions, bomb blasts and natural catastrophes as we end the Summer provoked by the Full Moon on the 19th and Pluto turning direct on the 20th.

We leave summer behind and enter the autumn season on the 22nd, as the Sun exits Virgo and moves into Libra. The intensity of the second and third weeks of September may die down, but it might prove only a brief respite from the acting-out and pushing the envelope that may have already been set into place.

Respites are welcome though during these most intense times. Moments of autumnal fun events, a sense of Indian summer, and a feeling that we are nurtured and comforted by those we hold dear can provide the necessary encouragement to deal with the craziness in the world today.

Venus trines Jupiter on the 26th. With the two ‘good guys’ of the planetary realm in harmonious aspect, we may feel that the sustenance, and the protection, in the world for us can be found only in our personal worlds, the sanctuary we create for ourselves in our home and in our community. Venus squares Mars on the 28th, and we may find that we have to pick and choose what level of discontent we are willing to engage without it overly impacting negatively our sense of balance, our zen-like ambition to be ‘in it but not of it’.

On the 29th, Mercury exits Libra to enter Scorpio. We now have a Stellium of three or more planets in the Fixed Water Sign as Mercury joins Venus and Saturn in Scorpio. Our mind and our thoughts become laser-like as we focus on the basics, the fundamentals, the core. We may no longer be seduced by the images, the hype or the presentations, but neither are we giving away our power. On the contrary, we are becoming far more in touch with our true being.

Intensity may be ratcheting up and we might feel as though we are standing on a precipice, but we have been there before. Although we would prefer only pleasantries in our lives, we live in interesting times, times of rapid and radical change and phenomenal growth spurts, all with the purpose of getting us back in touch with our true selves, our essence of being.
