The astrology for this week of March 20th through the 26th of 2023 can seem reminiscent of the classic Fats Waller refrain: “The joint is jumpin’. It’s really jumpin’.”
We have three significant and major Sign changes this week as we move into the spring season with the Sun entering Aries, Pluto exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius, and Mars exits Gemini to enter Cancer. Add to it the Aries New Moon and we have a week when “The joint is jumpin’. It’s really jumpin’.”
The week begins with the Vernal Equinox as the Sun exits Pisces and enters Aries to start a new astrological year and bring in the spring season. The Sun’s entry into Aries triggers a Cardinal Fire Stellium as the Sun joins Mercury and Jupiter in Aries. With machete in hand, we are prepared to initiate projects, take new trajectories.
This thrust of energy is heightened with the Aries New Moon on Tuesday. The month’s transit of a Sign by the Sun is always accentuated by the New Moon in that Sign and so it is with the Aries New Moon giving us an even greater thrust to go our own way, explore our personal passions.
An extremely significant Sign change occurs mid-week on Thursday when Pluto exits Capricorn and enters Aquarius. Apart from a couple of retrogrades back into Capricorn, Pluto will transit through Aquarius for the next twenty years until March of 2043. When Pluto first entered Capricorn back in 2008, we experienced the global financial crisis with the liability of a total global financial system meltdown. Is it any surprise that Pluto exiting Aquarius offers yet another swipe at the financial system?
The collapse of banks Silvergate, Silicon Valley Bank, and as I write, the teetering of several other banks including First Republic, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank are all indications of the transformative powers of Pluto, often with a crash and burn scenario entailed.
As in the Greek myth of the Phoenix, the bird rising from its ashes to soar ever higher, endings give rise to new beginnings. And so we may witness with Pluto exiting Capricorn to enter Aquarius.
The third important Sign change occurs over the weekend as Mars ends its seven-month transit of Gemini and enters Cancer. Over these past seven months we have put up with people shooting from the lip, driving recklessly, and doing whatever they want with little forethought or due deliberation. The impetuousness of these past months can tone down with people putting more physical focus on their home and family with the extreme of buttressing their boundaries and securing the walls of their personal sanctuary.
All in all, this week is a time when we might witness the sentiment that “The joint is jumpin’. It’s really jumpin’.”
Monday, March 20th – Good Day, Sunshine – Uranus, Sun, Pluto, Vernal Equinox, Sun Aries. Monday could start this week with some interesting twists and turns. The Moon continues its transit of Pisces with the Pisces Moon today sextile Uranus. The Pisces Sun sextiles Pluto in Capricorn before the Sun exits Pisces to enter Aries [5:24 PM EDT] at the Vernal Equinox, to start the spring season and to begin a new astrological year. Extraordinary changes could occur today, as if by the wave of a magic wand. Whatever we have intended for this day or whatever our perspective might be, this Monday appears to right the ship in the strangest and most mysterious ways. This Monday is a day when we could see the truth to the saying that ‘Life’s too mysterious. Don’t take it serious.’ No matter our schedule or our plans for this Monday, it would be wise for us to jot them down in pencil with a large eraser. By being flexible and adaptable to unanticipated variables, we could resolve certain matters and bring issues to closure in order to have a clean slate to welcome the new year. This is a day for us to be open to the magic of these times and to conclude outstanding situations we wish to leave behind as we come into this new cycle and the promise of this season of new beginnings, renewals and rejuvenation. Happy New Year!
Tuesday, March 21st – Feelings, Too Many Feelings – Neptune, Mars, Pluto, Aries New Moon, Sun, Mercury. Tuesday has the Pisces Moon conjunct Neptune to start the day. The Pisces Moon then squares Mars, and the Moon sextiles Pluto before the Moon ends its transit of Pisces and before the Moon enters Aries where the Aries Moon today conjuncts the Sun at the Aries New Moon [1:23 PM EDT] and the Moon conjuncts Mercury to end the day. We could start this Tuesday in a highly emotional state. We might be guided more by our heart than our head and determine to do so many things today. We have to be wary of being like a dog chasing its tail, wasting our time on silly distractions and being diverted from any meaningful closures. While we could start the day off in a moody and confusing manner, we can get a grip by concentrating on what we need to get done. This Tuesday is truly a paradoxical day with a focus first on endings and later in the day beginnings. Let’s try to conclude matters that we do not want to be encumbered by. The second half of this day under the heightened Aries influence allows us to attend to new projects, new involvements, new activities. The astrological new year has truly begun.
Wednesday, March 22nd – Feeling Groovy – Jupiter. Wednesday continues with the Aries Moon with the Moon today conjunct Jupiter. The high energy is taken down a notch or two and sandwiched between extreme days on either side. Yesterday and the day before had the thrust of Aries with the Sun entering Aries on Monday and the Aries New Moon yesterday. Tomorrow has a major shift in energy as Pluto exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius. Today though, things are placid and serene, and we could be feeling at the top of our game. Our optimism and confidence are restored and renewed, even as we see the landscape in which we operate teetering and about to change dramatically. No worries, for we are likely to realize that much of what we hear as ‘news’ is little more than bread and circuses intended to keep us docile by provoking fear or by reassuring fictions. Either way, we now are less susceptible to what is being fed us. Perhaps we have woken up, become more aware, our insights heightened with a laser-like ability to look beyond the appearance and hype to realize what is truly going on. This is a day for us to spread our wings, stretch beyond our comfort zone and consider the far reaches of our interests and our passions. This Wednesday can be a ‘feel good’ day, especially if we focus on our personal journey and our individual manifest destiny.
Thursday, March 23rd – The Revolution Will Not Be Televised – Mars, Pluto, Saturn, Pluto Aquarius. The Moon finishes its transit of Aries today with the Aries Moon sextile Mars. The Moon then goes into Taurus where today the Taurus Moon squares Pluto, which has just entered Aquarius, and the Moon sextiles Saturn. Pluto ends its transit of Capricorn, which has gone on since 2008, and enters Aquarius [8:13 AM EDT]. The acknowledged godfather of Rap, Gil Scott-Heron, penned the poem and song The Revolution Will Not Be Televised in 1970, and the truth of his lyrics may be increasingly evident with Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Things are changing dramatically. Revolution is upon us. When Pluto last transited Aquarius in the 1770s, there was the American Revolution and the French Revolution and also provided economic revolutions with the various inventions that would presage the Industrial Revolution. Yes, a revolution is upon us, both on a collective level and on a personal level. In the last week, we have seen the banking industry teetering on collapse, French president Emmanuel Macron circumventing the legislative powers of the National Assembly to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, and a three years-old farmers’ protest party winning big in Dutch provincial elections. It would be wise for us to chart our course for the years ahead, always doing so in pencil with a large eraser, with the recognition of sudden and dramatic changes that are liable to occur as we proceed ahead. Flexibility and adaptability are keys to our successes during these times with the recognition that we can successfully navigate the currents if we keep our wits about us.
Friday, March 24th – Fine Tuning – Venus, Uranus. Friday has the Taurus Moon conjunct Venus to begin the day, and the Moon conjunct Uranus in the evening. Wednesday and Friday are the two most pleasant days of this week, days when we can take the energy down several notches, catch our breath from all the intensity swirling around, and attend to the good things in life. This Friday allows us to put our best foot forward and give a good impression of oneself. Our aesthetic sense is highly attuned, and we might consider shopping to enhance a makeover of our personal appearance or to add to the comfort of our home environment. Later in the day, surprising developments could put a smile on our face. If we are attending to the accomplishments of our shopping excursions, we can fine tune our purchases, matching our additions with our familiar items and provide a vibrant and stylish air to our appearance and to our environment. We are likely to be looking good, feeling good on this Friday.
Saturday, March 25th – Slowing Down, We Were Moving Too Fast – Neptune, Moon Void-of-Course, Pluto, Mars Cancer. Saturday has the Taurus Moon sextile Neptune. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for eight and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes is transit of Taurus and before the Moon enters Gemini. The Gemini Moon trines Pluto late in the day. Mars ends its seven-month run through Gemini and enters Cancer. We may begin the day tidying up and tending to any changes we incorporated yesterday to our personal appearance or to our home environment. Late in the day, discussions can be insightful as we give thought and voice to our plans and consider our wisest options and soundest alternatives. Conversations might be pleasant interchanges with us far more receptive to hearing someone’s point of view rather than our being interested only in our own opinion. While the last seven months may have seemed a whirlwind of activity, although often like a ball in a pachinko machine banging against pins often feeling like stakes, the entry of Mars into Cancer could tone down our physical energy level. Instead of racing around from constant adrenaline rushes, we can focus our physical energy on home projects — repairing, renovating, adding to our personal sanctuary. We may even be more attentive to family needs and more interested in other people’s concerns than we have been over the past few months.
Sunday, March 26th – Wake Up – Saturn, Sun. The Moon transits through Gemini on this Sunday with the Gemini Moon square Saturn shortly after midnight EDT, and the Moon sextile the Sun to start our day. Our late Saturday, early Sunday hours can be fraught with concern. If we are in a sleep state, our well-being can be shaken by nightmares and tossing and turning. Anxiety may be heightened, but we need to question whether it’s a figment of our imagination, a sense of overwhelm, or the unleashing of the incubus during these crazy times. Exposed to the devil-themed Grammy performance of Sam Smith, our culture of hedonism and debauchery seems to parallel many of the themes and representations of the Weimar Republic prior to Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. When we awaken, we can shake off any of the night terrors or anxieties we might have experienced in our sleep state. Once awake, we can use this Sunday as a day of adventure, sampling this, trying that, and engaging all and sundry that catches our fancy. Sunday is a day for us to spread our wings and take flight whether literally or figuratively. This Sunday is a ‘ME’ day that we can enjoy alone, with that special someone, or a group of kindred souls.
