September 2015

This September is a month when we need to find our balance and try and maintain our balance despite the vagaries of these times, vagaries that could be spiked at times during this month.

The German composer Kurt Weill well epitomized this month in 1938 with his classic September song with the lyrics:

“Oh, it’s a long long while
From May to December
But the days grow short
When you reach September
When the autumn weather
Turns leaves to flame
One hasn’t got time
For the waiting game
Oh, the days dwindle down
To a precious few
September,…”

While we have passed the peak of Summer, September bridges the summer season and the autumn. The days tend to be still warm, the nights cooler. And our focus tends to shift from recreational summertime activities towards our productive, daily regimen.

This September has some very interesting energies and dramatic shifts in energy.

As we come into September, Venus conjuncts Mars. Even if we are back at work or back in school, we might be giving thought to the upcoming weekend, which in the US is the long Labor Day weekend often considered the unofficial end of Summer. We might be making plans to get out of Dodge with the intention of having one final blowout in celebration of summer.

On the 5th of September, the Sun trines Pluto followed by Venus turning direct on the 6th. We may be champing at the bit to put spirit into action, to concentrate our efforts on our most meaningful activities.

The 8th of September has Mars trine Uranus. With great confidence and flair we may advance some of our projects and involvements. We just have to avoid falling prey to the admonishment first given by Alexander Pope in the early eighteenth century: “fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”

Our impetuousness could know no bounds, and we might assume that through our determination and our will we can virtually change the course of the rivers, the tides and the sun. We should know better, especially with our recent experiences of asequential reality when magic and mini-miracles have shown us that we are not truly in control of circumstances [as if we ever were] but rather co-creators with the universal unfolding of our journey and our destiny.

If we have felt that things did not go exactly according to our plan and our whims, then the 9th of September could prove difficult with the Libra Mercury square Pluto in Capricorn. Although we might be interested in hearing what someone else might say, we could also find ourselves banging up against a brick wall. In such an instance, the pleasant conversations could quickly turn into vexatious discussions and from there into heated arguments. Let’s be careful what we say and to whom we say it. Our thoughts can be piercing and our expressions sharply to the point.

The Virgo New Moon on the 13th of September is a Solar Eclipse and may trigger what the Chinese proverb, often considered a curse, would refer to as “May you live in interesting times”.

One person who has made much out of this Solar Eclipse is Jonathan Cahn, a controversial author who writes about the Shemitah and seven-year cycles that have corresponded with major economic troubles, troubles that have been exacerbated by a Solar Eclipse. This Shemitah year runs from September of 2014 through September of 2015. If we go back in time, we see this seven-year cycle born out:

• Solar Eclipse on August 1st, 2008 coincided with the global financial meltdown and the ‘great recession’
• September 11th, 2001 terrorist attack on the US precipitated severe drops in the global stock markets
• 1994 bond market crash
• October 19th, 1987 Black Monday and stock market crash with worst one-day stock market drop since 1929
• 1980 hard recession
• 1973-1974 major Bear Market with the DJIA losing 45% of its value
• 1966 the S&P 500 index dropped about 22% in value.

You get the idea of what some cycle theorists are indicating about this September – October timeframe and what Cahn refers to as the impacts of the Shemitah year.

While this Solar Eclipse may not be as drastic for us on a personal level, it would seem a time of regrouping, focusing on both the foundation stones of our ‘new’ lives and the specific shifts we are considering making in our daily regimen.

The last major energy configurations of the Summer comes on the 17th with two major shifts in energy. Saturn exits its summer rerun of Scorpio and moves into Sagittarius for its two year run. And Mercury turns retrograde until the 9th of October.

Saturn moving into Sagittarius also triggers a Mutable Sign T-Square with Saturn in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Virgo and Neptune in Pisces. This energy configuration of the Mutable Sign T-Square continues on into September of 2016. The volatility can ratchet up under this influence, with times of extreme contraction, extremes of irrational exuberance and a heavy dose of confusion during the entire process. We shall have to keep our wits about us and avoid a sense of victimization to the drastically changing currents and excessive whipsaws. It would be important for us to keep in mind that much of the shifting circumstances are beyond our control, often occurring at a far distance from our immediate impact.

The Mercury retrograde beginning on the 17th until October 9th when Mercury turns direct has Mercury retrograding back through Libra. We may question our relationships with other people, wondering where someone else is coming from, and intensify the whipsaws of our feeling indecisive to the point of being almost catatonic.

Suggesting awareness of these energy configurations and their potential influences is not to alarm or generate fear. On the contrary, explaining the possible effects of these configurations ties into the idea that being forewarned is being forearmed.

On the 22nd – 23rd, Venus trines Uranus, just before the Autumnal Equinox with the Sun exiting Virgo to enter the Cardinal Air Sign of Libra.

Serendipitous connections can be reflective of a new sense of our being. Even in people with whom we have been associated, we may see a sparkly new aspect to their character. While there are various shifts underway, we are getting our footing in regard to a new sense of our own personality. We are looking to express our creative talents. We might find that we are in the right place at the right time for some amazing opportunities. And we are far more interested in lively relationships with people who are dancing to their own tune, marching to their own drummer.

There may be a greater sense of freedom, autonomy and individuality. One of the beauties of these times, despite the old forces trying to consolidate and constrict and restrain, is the ability to utilize the new tools and give voice to our own self-expressions.

In the 1960’s, there was a rallying cry among young people of ‘power to the people’. Newly developed technologies today are now making that rallying cry a truth as the various technological products truly give power to the individual person. Exciting times!

We are on the threshold of radical changes to society and even more significantly to reality as we move from a sequential progression reality into a non-linear, asequential unfolding of reality. Things can happen in a most unexpected manner and what we might consider to be magical and mini-miracles.

Whenever we are in process of making significant changes, there is often a pushback from old conditions. We might experience that pushback on the 24th when Mercury squares Pluto and Mars exits Leo to enter Virgo, followed on the 25th with Pluto turning direct and Mars square Saturn, and on the 27th – 28th with the Lunar Eclipse at the time of the Aries Full Moon.

This latter part of September can be a dicey time, a time when poor judgment leads to bad decisions. Seeking to be all things to all people, there can be a liability towards capitulation or, at the very least, accommodation that might seem to have immediate positive indications but may not prove wise in the long-term.

These energy configurations towards the end of September could prove explosive. Discussions might turn heated, and actions may be misguided. There can be bomb blasts and other explosions at this time, including increased geophysical activity of earthquakes and volcanic activity.

It will be important for us to keep our cool, not react immediately to any situation and give serious thought before moving forward with any definite commitments.

We are looking for the new and the different, seeking trajectories that resemble some of the momentary glimpses of serendipity we might have experienced and that have given us hope for our future and instilled faith in the universe unfolding.

The month of September ends on the 30th with the Sun conjunct Mercury. No matter the dust-ups of the previous week, we end September on a far more upbeat and productive note.
