While the often-used saying indicates that March comes in ‘like a lion’, this March comes in with a great deal of emotion but perhaps without a great deal of action. Is this beginning of March a toothless lion? Not so much, for we may feel awash in our moods and sentiments but thinking that we cannot move too far ahead in advancing our projects.
March begins with the Pisces New Moon with the Sun Moon conjunction trine Jupiter and sextile Pluto. There is a Water Grand Trine to start the month. We may be feeling good, and some of our excitement may be the anticipation of winter finally coming to closure with the eventual advent of Spring due to arrive the third week of the month.
At this same time of the Pisces New Moon beginning the month of March, we may feel betwixt and between. Of course, betwixt and between what, we might just not know. There is a great deal of confusion, mixed signals, energies shifting dramatically and rapidly at the start of this month.
While the New Moon trines Jupiter and sextiles Pluto, we are still contending with the Uranus Pluto square which has been shaking up our lives over the past few years and will continue to do so for yet another year. And the Uranus Pluto square right now is exacerbated by Jupiter in Cancer creating a Cardinal Sign T-Square with Jupiter square Uranus and Jupiter opposed Pluto. There can be times when enough is never enough, other times when enough is just too much. The liability towards extremes, knee-jerk reactions and trying to figure things out without full information can be off the charts. To this conundrum of wanting to do something, anything, to get moving and get going, we have:
[1] the Pisces New Moon conjunct Neptune
[2] Mercury having just ended its three-week retrograde cycle on Friday, the 28th of February, and still finding its bearings
[3] Mars turning retrograde on the 1st of March
[4] Saturn turning retrograde on the 2nd of March
With all this shift and change going on, we may not know whether we are coming or going.
Our mental energy may be a great deal stronger than our physical energy. We are likely to feel optimistic about our future but we could feel mightier in concept and in the abstract than in physically realizing and manifesting our dreams. With these various changes in direction going on in the heavens, we may wonder whether we are making headway or just spinning our wheels.
It would be wise for us to keep in mind that intention, that mental seed thought, is the first step to concrete realization. Let’s take advantage of these New Moon energies to plan and strategize and devise the solid foundations upon which we can build in the days ahead.
This latter part of winter sees further changes in direction and movement. After over four months of transiting Capricorn, Venus exits the Cardinal Earth Sign to enter Aquarius on the 5th of March, followed by Jupiter ending its four-month retrograde cycle and turning direct on the 6th of March.
Venus coming out of Capricorn and entering Aquarius may find us less critical of other people. Even though we still have Mars in Libra, and now Mars retrograding through the relationship Sign, which has found our interactions with other people akin to sometimes throwing down the gauntlet and becoming adversarial or one-upping in our exchanges; Venus in Aquarius allows us to accept other people’s quirkiness and appreciate their individual characteristics. We may still have our moments of friction with other people, but we might be far less demanding that people reach our standards and expectations.
With Jupiter turning direct and Saturn retrograde, we could feel as though we are living an accordion life, times of expanding our interests, other times of contracting based upon our necessities.
Although we might feel as though we are doing the Texas two-step, or taking one step forward, two steps back or two steps forward, one step back, let’s keep aware that our lives now are like creating a suspension bridge slat by slat to get from where we have been to where we wish to go, all the while having to go back into our past to dredge up outstanding matters and unresolved issues that we do not want to bring with us once we get to the other side.
While we may go back and forth between what could be and what has been, all the while wondering where we are with what is, there is movement afoot and we are in process, moving from becoming to be-ing.
Jupiter direct in Cancer also moves towards ending in mid-July the Water Grand Trine of Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces that has been influencing us since the end of June last year, 2013. With Jupiter moving into Leo in mid-July, followed at the end of the year with Saturn moving into Sagittarius, we shall move from the influence of a Water Grand Trine to the influence of a Fire Grand Trine with Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Leo and Saturn in Sagittarius. But that is then, and now we continue with the Water Grand Trine and the increased sensitivities we may all have been feeling with our mood swings between highs and lows.
The 11th of March has Mercury square Saturn. Our hopes and dreams may seem dashed against the rocks of apparent reality. We may feel that we cannot accomplish what we want due to our lack of resources. We could easily get discouraged if we buy into appearances. Outstanding debts may seem daunting, and increased expenses in our costs of living could be challenging. If we do not put on blinders nor accept falling victim to circumstance, we might bear witness to the saying: “where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Following the Mercury square Saturn on the 11th, the Sun trines Saturn on the 13th, followed by Mercury trine Mars on the 14th. We could devise a best practices approach to be extremely resourceful, all with a little help from our friends. Other people may make us aware of options and alternatives that we do not see for ourselves. As long as we are willing to persevere and push ahead, we can find the ways and means to advance our interests.
The Virgo Full Moon on the 16th provides a crescendo of effectiveness and functionality with the Sun Moon opposition connected to Saturn with the Moon sextile Saturn and the Sun trine Saturn. We can use this end of winter knowing that we have established the format, the structure and the foundation for where we wish to go next.
The 17th has Mercury moving back into Pisces, the Sign of its Detriment where Mercury is not at all comfortable and also the Sign that Mercury was transiting when it first turned retrograde last month. Although our mind can be visionary, we could also be quite spacey, willing to imagine the possibilities without considering the true reality or the ramifications of our actions. We may have our head in the clouds, but it would be wise for us to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground.
Venus sextiles Uranus on the 18th. The air of magic that is a large part of the atmosphere of the paradigm shift we are all going through instills the possibilities of some very interesting and very unexpected encounters. As though on a scavenger hunt, and often our life journey seems just such an expedition, we may find various clues being presented to us in the most inexplicable ways. Now is a time for us to keep our eyes and ears open, for we might discover some fascinating revelations that lead us into whole new trajectories that we might never have considered.
Spring is sprung on the 20th as the Sun exits Pisces and enters Aries at the Vernal Equinox. We are at the beginning of the astrological new year. Although our tendency might be to leap forward out of the cold and into the warmth of new initiations, we may tiptoe gently into the new season, keeping in rein our exuberance with the subtle admonition to ourselves of ‘once burnt, twice shy’.
We may have become ever more aware of the craziness that has gone on, continues on and is likely to go on into the future in the world around us. We are recognizing that things are shifting and changing quickly and radically, that life nowadays is transformative with the changes occurring in a nanosecond of time. The dynamics of these times can be exciting, for any stasis is momentary, as we become swept up in the flow of continual process. No longer are we locked into the sequential progression of beginning, middle and end with some ultimate resolution. Instead, we are flowing through the asequential reality where things occur often in what appears randomly, sometimes serendipitously. The control we once assumed over our life’s circumstances is giving way to the kaleidoscope of unexpected events and unanticipated variables.
As we come into Spring towards the latter part of March, Mercury transiting Pisces will offer some opportunities for greater understanding, as long as we draw upon our intuitive sense, listen to our inner voice and not become diverted by scintillating distractions that could only cause confusion.
On the 22nd, Mercury conjuncts Neptune. Our thoughts can be otherworldly. We could either see beyond the Veil of Maya and beyond the veil of illusion or we could get caught in the web of illusion and enter a fantasyland of make believe with little semblance of reality. This would be a good time for us to give thought to our strategies, blueprinting our plans and take a visionary approach to our intentions.
The 26th has Mercury trine Jupiter. We may have a strong sense of self-confidence. Even if we cannot justify our optimism, we might feel as though we are on the right side of our decisions and our actions, and as if nothing can go wrong. Our enthusiasm could prove contagious, and this would be a time when our upbeat attitude can gain supporters to our cause. Our presentations may be sparkling with human emotion, but we do have to avoid spinning tall tales just to win our case. We need to be wary that we don’t fall prey to the idiom of ‘give someone enough rope and they’re likely to hang themselves’. Please, let’s not hang ourselves out to dry.
If we can forestall overreach at that time, the 28th allows us to blend our intuitive foresight with a laser-like concentration. Mercury sextiles Pluto and we can devise the most expeditious means to realize our goals. While our exuberance a couple days earlier may have been entertaining, we now have both a genuine appeal and charming presentation backed up with facts and figures to win our argument and move our interests forward.
The second half of March could seem a pleasant period, a time when we are looking to plant the seeds of new adventures and do so with passion and enjoyment regarding the process. No matter what seems to be going on in the world at large, we may feel more optimistic about our own personal future. We do need to maintain balance with the recognition that these times of extreme volatility are also times when we could go between extremes of emotion — feeling that everything is right in our world, other times despairing that we might not have the resources to accomplish our plans. It is all a question of balance, and affirming the tenets of Buddhism, the disposition of non-attachment.
If we would embrace the sentiment of detachment in the swirling kaleidoscope of events, people, situations and circumstance, then we can appreciate the unfolding process and enjoy the ride.
The end of March has Venus trine Mars and Venus square Saturn on the 29th, followed by the Aries New Moon on the 30th. Interactions with other people can be heart-warming engagements. Even if we feel our resources to be pinched, we can still enjoy ourselves by asserting that ‘the best things in life are free.’
The month of March comes to an end, and April begins under the influence of the Aries New Moon on the 30th, with a strong desire for fun springtime activities and new adventures, despite actings out by people on the world stage.
March 2014… a new year begins with new trajectories…
