The astrology for this week of May 8th through the 14th of 2023 has the third and final week of this Mercury retrograde with Mercury turning direct late on Sunday, Mother’s Day.
We’re not out of the woods yet. This Mercury retrograde has been taunting and challenging from my own experience and from what I have heard from many other people.
As the great philosopher Yogi Berra said: “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”
It just isn’t over quite yet.
A couple of things that I found of interest last month and are indicative of the Sign changes of Saturn into Pisces and Pluto into Aquarius were the intense rains around Fort Lauderdale, which racked up twenty-six inches of rain [Pisces Water Sign] in twenty-four hours, and the tornado we witnessed barreling towards us [Aquarius Air Sign], tornados being a rarity in south Florida. Waterspouts, yes; tornados, not so much.
This week starts pleasantly enough, even if our thoughts are more in an expansive mood and considering things far afield than our present, practical realities. Ah, yes, daydream believer we may be as we begin this week.
Tuesday and Wednesday can be highly productive days. We need to keep focused, prioritize our involvements, and appreciate that under the Mercury retrograde it is far better for us to go back over things that may need reworking to have proper completion rather than initiating anything new.
The end of the week and the weekend are geared to social engagements culminating with Mother’s Day on Sunday and the week ending with Mercury turning direct on Sunday night.
Whenever Mercury turns direction, things get squirrely, so we shall have to be extra careful late Sunday to avoid the shift in Mercury direction from hitting us in the backside or from any other direction.
Astrological tidbits:
Speaking of the end of Mercury retrograde, it’s wise to look at recent events that occurred under Mercury retrograde, an energy configuration akin to Murphy’s Law of ‘whatever can go wrong could go wrong’.
• Announcement of Biden re-election campaign
• Coronation of Charles III, shortly after the Lunar Eclipse the night before when the Full Moon T-Squared his natal Pluto in Leo [not auspicious for the regal]
Moon Void-of-Course is a far better time to reflect and contemplate than to begin or initiate. Plans tend not to work out due to unrealistic expectations and poor judgment.
The Moon Void-of-Course was in effect when Trump was arraigned in New York.
Astrology is all about energy configurations and cycles. The value of astrology lies both in a better understanding of oneself and the ‘right’ timing for actions and decisions.
Monday, May 8th – Keeping it Real – Neptune, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course, Venus. This week begins with the Moon finishing its transit of Sagittarius with the Sagittarius Moon square Neptune and the Moon trine Jupiter. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for three hours with the Moon making no further connections as the Moon finishes its transit of Sagittarius and before the Moon enters Capricorn where late on Monday evening the Capricorn Moon opposes Venus. We might be feeling optimistic about life and our involvements, but we need to be wary that we’re not deceiving ourselves and buying into illusions. This is one of those days when we could go far out on a limb with an assumption that everything will work out just right. A nice concept, but not one that may match reality. It is essential that we rein in our enthusiasm and not get distracted by bright, sparkly things. The energy today demands that we maintain focus. We can be a little too full of ourselves today, and too much for other people. If we get arrogant or narcissistic today, the pushback might prove extreme. Let’s enjoy ourselves without going overboard. The evening hours allow us to become more serious, less irrationally exuberant, and prepare us for two highly productive days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday, May 9th – Well-Considered and Well-Played – Saturn, Mercury, Sun, Uranus. Tuesday has the Capricorn Moon sextile Saturn and the Moon trine Mercury. The Sun conjuncts Uranus. We can be highly productive and effective both today and tomorrow if we take the time to consider our moves and then move ahead cautiously, all the while engaging a best practices approach that incorporates streamlined methodology. Tuesday and Wednesday are two days when we can accomplish a great deal more than usual. With Mercury retrograde it would be far better for us to address outstanding issues or the reworking of situations that were not previously completed successfully. We just need to avoid getting ahead of ourselves. Today we can have nose to grindstone, take care of various mundane matters, but our abilities might go to our head tomorrow with a liability of taking on too much. Tuesday allows us to take things step-by-step and still use time management skills to address any number of issues. If we are planning new projects, it would be best to keep them in the conceptual stages and wait for implementation until after Mercury turns direct at the end of the weekend. Shopping today can add a little spice to our wardrobe or acquire equipment that eases our burdens and simplifies our tasks. Any major purchases are better made after Mercury turns direct.
Wednesday, May 10th – On All Gears Until Overdrive – Uranus, Sun, Neptune, Lunar T-Square, Mars, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course, Pluto. The first half of Wednesday could have us gliding along smoothly and expeditiously, the second half not so much. Wednesday begins with the Capricorn Moon trine both Uranus and the Sun both in Taurus. The Moon sextiles Neptune, and the Moon triggers a Cardinal Sign T-Square with the Capricorn Moon opposed Mars in Cancer and the Moon square Jupiter in Aries. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for two hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Capricorn and before the Moon enters Aquarius late in the day, and the Aquarius Moon conjuncts Pluto. Tuesday and early Wednesday can be two highly productive and effective days in attending to various activities. Unfortunately, we could easily get enamored with our talents and abilities and consequently drop our focus to the specifics and try to take on too much. Any narcissism today might upset all the good we have done only hours earlier. We may shift our concentration to future involvements, but it would be wise for us to be attentive to the projects that we have engaged and that we wish to complete successfully before moving on. Tuesday and Wednesday are days for us to work smarter rather than harder. They are also days when it would be wise to keep our nose to the grindstone and attend to matters in hand. The next few days might be more geared to our social engagements and to our plans for our future. Yesterday and today are best used to work with the energy, revise our endeavors, and tie up loose ends.
Thursday, May 11th – Back to the Present – Mercury. Thursday has the Aquarius Moon square Mercury. It would be far too easy for us to start our day off on the wrong foot. We might know what we wish to do but it may not jibe with what we need to do. A case of either or could plague us. Either we focus on our future interests, or we deal with our present responsibilities. Even if we choose to concentrate on our long-term goals, we may be dragged back into dealing with our tasks at hand. This day demands that we take things step-by-step. No jumping ahead or fast forwarding today, for if we do so, we could find ourselves in quite a muddle. Let’s consider our resources and how best to optimize them both to better our present conditions and provide a cushion for future contingencies. Tuesday and Wednesday may have been two primo days, but things could have gotten out of hand late on Wednesday. This Thursday allows us to tone things down, attend to what we need to get done but in a wise and resourceful manner. The challenge for each of us is to learn how best to conserve our resources — time, energy, and finances — and not dissipate our resources. Easy times may be behind us for the time being. Increasingly, we need to be mindful, stay alert and be aware of the shifting currents and deal with them accordingly. Flexibility and adaptability are key characteristics to successfully navigate the paradigm shift in which we find ourselves.
Friday, May 12th – Experience Evolves into Expertise – Uranus, Sun, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury, Venus, Saturn. Friday continues with the Aquarius Moon with the Moon today square both Uranus and the Sun both in Taurus to begin the day. The Moon sextiles Jupiter to end the day with the Moon then going Void-of-Course for an hour before the Moon enters Pisces early on Saturday morning. Mercury sextiles Saturn in Pisces, and Mercury sextiles Venus in Cancer. There are times when we try to go too far too fast. An impetuousness takes hold and with our desires running us we can get ourselves in a heap of trouble with heavy expenses incurred. We are living during times of major roller coaster ups and downs. We see it in the volatility of the equity markets. We experience it with extreme mood swings. Tuesday and Wednesday could have had us highly effective and productive in whatever we were doing. Late Wednesday and much of Thursday might have had us petulant, wanting what we wanted the way that we wanted it, even assuming things should work out as easily as they had just recently and the way we willed them. We could pay the price early on this Friday morning. If we let down our guard or lifted our foot from the accelerator late Wednesday and yesterday, today may have us realize that some of our plans are impractical, highly expensive, and a bad use of our resources. Fortunately for us, life experience evolves into expertise. This Friday allows us to be more grounded and realistic and more aware of how we can best proceed under these changing times. Through the opportunities and the challenges that we have experienced, we have developed a skill set with which we can successfully deal with anything that comes our way. Once we get over any frustration that immediate gratification is not happening, we can gain a better attitude and the confidence that we have the tools to deal with any delays or obstacles to our intended plans and any curveballs that might come our way.
Saturday, May 13th – Pause, Refresh – Mercury, Saturn, Venus. Saturday has the Moon entering Pisces where today the Pisces Moon sextiles Mercury, the Moon conjuncts Saturn, and the Moon trines Venus. Venus trines Saturn. This is Mother’s Day weekend, and this Saturday could have us engaging in various social get-togethers. We might spend the day shopping, tidying, readying our home for visits, or preparing for our trips to celebrate mom. We may feel in something of an otherworldly state. Much of the cacophony of our daily lives can seem to drop away as our focus is both on tomorrow’s Mother’s Day and the inclination for walks down Memory Lane and contemplating reflections of our past and how we might choose our future to be. This can be a highly emotional day but one of pleasant thoughts of where we have been and what we have seen during our journey through this life experience. Instead of being caught up in our daily mundane affairs, we could be enamored by the many representations of the beauties in our living. Getting out into nature, going to art museums or other cultural venues, and sharing special moments with special friends may provide us the pause that refreshes. We might not be looking to set the world on fire today but rather to bask in the lushness and the beauty in doing our living.
Sunday, May 14th – All About Mom – Uranus, Sun, Mars, Neptune, Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury direct. Sunday is Mother’s Day, a day when we celebrate Mom [if we can still use the term in accord with the edicts from the verbal Stasi]. The Moon continues its transit of Pisces with the Pisces Moon today sextile both Uranus and the Sun both in Taurus, the Moon trine Mars, and the Moon conjunct Neptune. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for five hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Pisces and before the Moon enters Aries early on Monday morning. Mercury ends its three-week retrograde cycle and turns direct [11:17 PM EDT]. This weekend can be a most pleasant and relaxed time, a time to catch our breath from the hurly-burly of doing present day life, and a time to honor mother whether we spend actual time with her, or we spend time reflecting on where we have been and cherishing special moments with special friends. Although Hallmark holidays often bring up tears and recriminations, none is likely to occur on this Sunday. On the contrary, everyone seems to be in a reflective and appreciative mood. We do have to be wary of things getting squirrely today. With Mercury turning direction tonight, problems could plague us in our travels, our computer issues, and misunderstandings. Let’s cut ourselves and everyone a great deal of slack and not spoil what could be a most pleasant weekend.
