Much of December has an interplay of the Sagittarius transiting planets opposing Jupiter and squaring Neptune. With the movement into Sagittarius of the Sun back on the 21st of November, Mercury on the 10th – 11th of December and Venus on the 15th – 16th of December, a Mutable Sign T-Square is triggered. Excesses and indulgences may be strong. Some of it could be justified as the last hurrah before we cash in our chips with the end of the world fast approaching, according to interpretations of the ending of the Mayan calendar.
And even after the 21st, we could continue our excesses and extravagances in celebration of the world not ending and then with the New Year’s celebrations. What a wonderful world! We can splurge and enjoy and postpone any hangover until after the first of the year when the bills come due and we wake up to the tax bites forthcoming.
The 2nd of December has the Sun opposed Jupiter. We may be feeling confident and optimistic, and we might find ourselves doing holiday shopping and being ever so generous as though playing Santa Claus to one and all for the upcoming holiday celebrations.
On the 10th, Mercury enters Sagittarius, a Sign of Mercury’s Detriment where Mercury is not too comfortable. Mercury squares Neptune on the 11th. We may be confused, on overload with all the input coming at us, or lacking full information to fully understand what is going on. It would be wise for us not to accept things at face value, but rather recognize the agenda of the spinmeisters and take everything said with a grain of salt and a jaded eye. The hucksters and tricksters may be out in full regalia.
The Sagittarius New Moon on the 13th occurs just before the Moon goes Void-of-Course with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Sagittarius and before entering Capricorn. This New Moon also occurs just prior to Uranus turning direct. With the New Moon impacting the next two weeks, we may find ourselves focused largely on holiday celebrations, concentrating on ourselves and turning a blind eye to what may be going on in the world and all around us. Instead, we could be far more engaged in good times with good friends with little concern for mundane realities and impending situations.
The 14th has Mercury trine Uranus. This energy configuration could contribute to some startling revelations. No matter what is being presented to us, clarity can come in moments of insightful inspiration. We may stretch beyond our normal parameters to investigate realms of new possibilities and develop a new sense of ourselves. It is the holiday time, and each of us can step away from the routine of our daily lives. In doing so, we may gain a fresh perspective, an ability to work with peripheral vision and consider options and alternatives that might not jibe with our usual mindset. In our minds, we can learn to be free, liberated from old ways and from old patterns and be open to the magic and the mini-miracles that these volatile times evidence.
The 15th of December has Venus exiting Scorpio and entering Sagittarius creating, albeit briefly, a Stellium of three or more planets in the Mutable Fire Sign as Venus joins Mercury and the Sun in Sagittarius. We may stretch beyond our typical conditions, intrigued more by those things foreign to us and open our eyes to expanding our interests, engaging a new sense of ourselves and taking an optimistic view to our future. Like little children, we may be in awe and wonder of natural unfolding and the opportunities available once we move beyond the rigidity of the familiar.
Venus squares Neptune on the 16th, followed by Mercury opposed Jupiter on the 17th. While we might see the world as our oyster, we have to avoid being seduced by the images, the presentations and people making promises they cannot keep. We could easily see things in a lovely bright hue, but it would be wise for us not to fall prey to possibilities without fully checking them out, doing our due diligence and recognizing that there are times when things seem too good to be true and turn out to be only illusions and delusions.
We may be caught up in the holiday spirit, and there are in deed incredibly magical moments that can occur. Let’s enjoy the kaleidoscope of good times, good friends and the little miracles we witness along the way. While we might have our head in the clouds, let’s keep our feet firmly planted on the ground.
The 19th of December has Venus trine Uranus. Serendipitous meetings, synchronistic connections could invite some very interesting new people into our lives. They may be marching to their own drummer, but they could also provide an important reflection as to who we are becoming and how we are changing.
The autumn season comes to closure on the 21st of December, which according to many interpreters of the Mayan Calendar also brings the end of the world.
No matter what your preparations for these ‘end times’ might be, I would suggest embracing the lyrics from the R.E.M. classic song: “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.”
The beginning of the winter season at the time of the winter solstice on the 21st has the Sun moving into Capricorn ending the Stellium of three or more planets in Sagittarius. With the Sun entering Capricorn, we now have a Stellium of three or more planets in the Cardinal Earth Sign as the Sun joins Mars and Pluto in Capricorn. Like the Sagittarius Stellium of the previous five days, this Stellium is also brief lasting for five days until Mars exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius on the 25th – 26th.
With Capricorn and Saturn emphasized during the latter part of December we may find ourselves in a paradoxical situation. On one hand, we may be enjoying the holidays, taking time to step away from our daily routine functions and celebrating in good spirits with friends and colleagues. On the other hand, we may be considering how best to proceed with our goals and our ambitions, especially under a potentially changing landscape and backdrop to our operations. Maintaining vigilance all the while that we are enjoying this time of year may be our intention and would serve as good preparation for a modus operandi necessary to successfully navigate the swirling currents of the next few years.
The 22nd has the Sun sextile Neptune and Venus opposed Jupiter. This paradox of visionary focus and pleasurable indulgence can be in play this day. It is not a question of caroming from one to the other but rather a blend, or integration, whereby we enjoy ourselves fully but keep our eye on the ball of the true circumstances operating around us.
Even social interactions can serve to benefit our interests, our ambitions and our planned projects. We do not have to be manipulative or seeking to take advantage of other people. Instead, we can look to create win-win scenarios under a best practices approach of being resourceful and determined to realize our goals.
The 25th – 26th has the Sun square Uranus and Mars entering Aquarius and exiting Capricorn, thereby ending the Stellium of three planets in Capricorn. A desire to push ahead into new frontiers, to be free and independent and more autonomous in all our dealings can give us a sense of fresh air, but we do have to be wary not to seek change solely for the sake of change with all the liable collateral damage that could ensue. New interests and new activities may be called for and might whet our appetite to be more individualistic, more iconoclastic, more our own person.
While such a sentiment could foster a sense of the rebel without a cause, fortunately the 26th also has Saturn sextile Pluto. If we don’t jump the gun, run off without checking our direction or itinerary, then we can devise a strategy that is clean, purposeful and focused for us to advance our interests and move forward with our greatest ambitions.
The Cancer Full Moon on the 28th asks us to blend our personal interests with our communal responsibilities. Although the instigation to throw baby out with bath water, to drop everything and begin anew, may be strong, we can draw upon our past experiences, our lessons learned and the skill set we have developed to proceed in new directions with confidence, optimism and resolute determination.
Following on the Cancer Full Moon on the 28th, the Sun conjuncts Pluto and the Sun sextiles Saturn on the 30th. The month of December and the year of 2012 end with a crescendo as Mars sextiles Uranus on the 31st – 1st of January.
There is no fooling us, if we keep focused on the truly meaningful and highly aware of what is really going on. The hypesters and spinmeisters may still weave their stories, project marvelous presentations, and appear as miracle workers, but we are less likely to buy into the illusions, delusions, of the fantasy world. We have been there, done that, and there is no time for ridiculous diversions and mindless distractions.
We are willing to play the hand dealt us. We may readily see the volatility of these times, with various crash and burn scenarios operating around us, as being a dynamic that allows major changes and extraordinary opportunities to come about in virtually nanoseconds.
We have seen what has been and we can be committed to what could be. With due diligence and full appreciation that we truly never get more than we can handle, we can carve our path and engage our journey for brighter days through better ways.
To repeat the prescient lyrics of R.E.M.: “It’s the end of the world as we know it… and I feel fine.”
December 2012… the end of the world, the beginning…
