The astrology for this week of August 3rd through the 9th of 2020 may ratchet up our emotions with whipsaws between passive reactivity and outbursts of anger.
We begin the week with the Aquarius Full Moon. We may be far more interested in our future plans, doing our own thing, and expressing our independence. With many people still suffering the consequences of the virus contagion lockdown, there can be people acting out by emphasizing their demand for freedom from the sense of constraints and restrictions imposed by the powers-that-be.
Being the first full week of August, many people will be looking at fully engaging summertime activities. Whether we travel or stay at home, we want to enjoy ourselves, engage recreational activities and have a good time after so many months of being restricted, regulated and muzzled.
Autumn is fast approaching. Despite the fact that school openings may be delayed, or school may morph into continued virtual instruction at home, traditionally early August is the time of school sales. We may feel betwixt and between, with August being traditionally a time for summer vacation yet also preparing for a return to school, and with our old ‘normal’ being transformed into something other than ‘normal’ and what that may be still unclear.
With Mercury entering Leo early in the week, our thoughts may turn to fun times and even being a law unto ourselves. We might feel as though edicts handed down have little bearing on us personally. The question of the collective good as opposed to our own personal good can trigger a tug-of-war between individuals and authorities.
It’s hot times in the summertime. Some people, feeling like caged animals, could act out with belligerence indicated by angry conversations, road rage, and street fights. It is essential that we try to maintain calm, a bemused attitude over the foibles of humankind, and cut ourselves and everyone else an awful lot of slack.
As the week unfolds, we might find ourselves back in contemplation and reflection, acknowledging and enlisting our spiritual aspect of being. One of the things the lockdown offered us was the opportunity of a spiritual retreat, time to go inner with a focus on our internal being rather than our external distractions. The mid to latter part of the week affords us a similar opportunity.
Getting down by the shore, walking out in nature, being in nature’s cathedral may help to ground us and to realize that everything is perfect, unfolding as it should. One of the fascinating aspects that I and other people noticed during the most stringent of the lockdowns was how alive nature became. It was as if with humankind removed, nature flourished. The reintroduction of humankind did distress the birds with their strafing commonplace.
The end of the week has Venus exiting Gemini to enter Cancer just prior to the weekend, a weekend when we may choose to be out and about or to just stay home and occupy ourselves with various projects.
Monday, August 3rd – Clipped Wings – Uranus, Aquarius Full Moon, Sun, Mercury, Saturn. Monday begins the week with the Aquarius Full Moon [11:59 AM EDT] and a Fixed Sign T-Square with the Moon opposed the Sun, and the Moon square Uranus. Mercury opposes Saturn. We may want to do all sorts of things, fly away and soar to heights, but we might experience unexpected situations or usual responsibilities getting in our way. We might feel victim to circumstance and at a time when we are likely to be champing at the bit to break free of our familiar and our usual in order to do something different and spread our wings. But our wings are liable to be clipped today, which could send us into depressive thoughts, feeling that we are victim of circumstance with little leeway. For many of us, travel is limited. Europe seems closed off to US residents. And many states are allowing entry on the condition that those entering from certain states self-quarantine for fourteen days. Add to this sense of containment the fact that some states are reimposing strict limitations. Frustration for some people could reach the boiling point, with people even willing to flaunt the rules and regulations. Like a volcano percolating below the surface and needing steam vents to release the built-up energy, we too need to find outlets, something different to do, that will help us allay our discontent, release our pent-up energy, and give us a sense that we still have some modicum of free will.
Tuesday, August 4th – Reckless Overreach – Mars, Venus, Moon Void-of-Course, Jupiter, Mercury Leo. The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius with the Moon sextile Mars in the early morning hours, and the Moon trine Venus later in the day. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for almost five hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Aquarius and before the Moon enters Pisces towards the end of the day. Mars squares Jupiter, and late on Tuesday Mercury exits Cancer to enter Leo [11:32 PM EDT]. If we did not find outlets for our pent-up energy yesterday, we are likely to be full throttle on this Tuesday. We might not be willing to accede to limitations on our personal wishes today. We may feel entitled to do what we want to do with few restrictions placed upon us. We do have to be wary of being impetuous and reckless today. Our own desire to have what we want and the way that we want it combined with an optimism verging on overconfidence could prove a prescription for disaster. We can be so immersed in future plans and options to explore that we are liable to forge ahead without doing our due diligence. This day calls for us to occasionally apply the brakes to our movements and to our decisions in order to slow things down and evaluate what we are doing and why we are doing it. Late in the day, Mercury’s entry into Leo turns our thoughts to our creative interests, whether we choose to express our talents or engage in fun activities. We are unwilling to let the summer slide away without having some exciting summertime activities.
Wednesday, August 5th – In the Still – Uranus. The Moon transits Pisces today with the Moon sextile Uranus late in the day. The past two days might have been high octane days, days when we felt the need to put the pedal to the medal and get our energy out. We might have overdone things, but hopefully we restrained our impetuousness and found healthy venues in which to let off steam and enjoy ourselves at the same time. This Wednesday takes the energy down significantly. Instead of the frenzy and possibly even frantic activity of the past few days, this Wednesday allows us to find serenity and quiet repose. This Wednesday is a good day for us to reflect, contemplate and meditate, to find nurture and comfort in the stillness. We might heed the words of Hermann Hess: “Within yourself is a stillness, a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.” With so much chaos and confusion all around, it is important for us to take advantage of those interludes when we can regain a sense of quiet within ourselves. As opposed to Monday when the Full Moon triggered a square to Uranus and liable to various curveballs and upsets to our intentions, this day with the Moon sextile Uranus can allow things to come to us easily and in surprising ways by our willing to be quiet and to be open to the magic of these times. Life does not have to be hard; it’s just that there are times when we make it so.
Thursday, August 6th – Effectively Attuned – Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto. Thursday continues with the Pisces Moon with the Moon today conjunct Neptune, and the Moon sextile the two Capricorn-transiting planets of Jupiter and Pluto. Early tomorrow, the Pisces Moon sextiles the third Capricorn-transiting planet of Saturn. Our sensitivity can be accentuated today. Our moods and emotions are likely to be strong. Things could fit neatly together if we become one with whatever we are doing instead of trying to force things according to our will. When we truly connect with our projects, we come to realize that each project has a life of its own, that if we surrender our ego and be in tune with whatever we are doing, the way will be made clear. We could be highly effective and productive today. Nothing has to be forced, but rather things can unfold naturally and easily. Avoiding distractions and needless diversions will put us in an almost otherworldly sense of how best to accomplish our goals. It would be important for us to concentrate on our priorities and not get carried away with ourselves. Things can come easily today, but it would be wise for us to take things step by step rather than trying to do too much.
Friday, August 7th – Passive or Active – Saturn, Venus, Mercury, Venus Cancer. Friday is a paradoxical day. We begin the day with the Moon sextile Saturn, completing the Moon’s connections to the three-Capricorn transiting planets, with the Moon’s sextiles to Jupiter and Pluto yesterday and the Moon sextile to Saturn early this Friday morning. The Moon then enters Aries where later in the day the Moon trines Mercury. Venus exits Gemini to enter Cancer [11:21 AM EDT]. If we deal with our obligations by tying up loose ends and completing outstanding matters early in the day, then we can engage the weekend free and clear. We are likely to start the weekend early with intentions of enjoying a summer weekend with few restraints and participating in good times with family members and friends. This is a day when we might have to respond to what needs to be done before we flip into doing whatever we choose to. This Friday is a good example of the contrasts between being passive by reacting to situations that call for our attention and being active by charting our own course that speaks to our personal interests.
Saturday, August 8th – Going for the Gold – Sun, Jupiter. Saturday continues with the Aries Moon and with each of us asserting our individuality and doing our own thing. Later on Saturday, the Aries Moon trines the Sun, and the Moon squares Jupiter to end the day. Whether we participate in group activities or we go solo, we are looking to express our robust vitality and fully enjoy ourselves in the process. This is not a day for nay-sayers. We are pumped and primed to take advantage of summertime frivolity and to go for the gold. We are unlikely to do anything today in half measure but rather to extend ourselves to our outer reaches. Nothing is too much for us today, but therein could lie a problem. The energy ratchets up in the evening hours, and we might be a little too much for someone or for some people. With great confidence in our abilities and highly assured of our appeal, we may overdo — be too boisterous, overgenerous, or overoptimistic. It would be suggested that we keep the reins on our enthusiasm, for our exuberance can prove overwhelming. But we are not interested in putting a damper on our good times and we might feel convinced that we should be the center of attention, which may prove problematic if other people are elbowing to have their say and sway. A little balance could avoid difficulties.
Sunday, August 9th – Tethered by Commitments – Mars, Pluto, Saturn, Moon Void-of-Course. The early morning hours of this Sunday may begin with a burst of energy before we run headlong into our obligations. The day begins with the Aries Moon conjunct Mars. If we could get out of town, spread our wings and explore the far reaches of our world, we may wish to do so. Our intentions can be expansive and self-affirming, but commitments and obligations could stand in our way. For the Aries Moon today also squares both Pluto and Saturn, before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for five and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon completes its transit of Aries and before the Moon moves into Taurus in the evening. Any desire to be impulsive, impetuous and do things on the fly today are likely to be grounded by plans already made or by responsibilities we need to address. We might feel short-changed on a weekend of good times and fun events as our demands deflate our expansiveness. There’s no shirking our obligations, but let’s not merely gloss over the details in our tasks, for otherwise we could do a messy job that will eventually need to be redone.
