August 17th – 23rd, 2020

The astrology for this week of August 17th through the 23rd of 2020 has us betwixt and between a summer that might not have been as fulfilling as usual due to heavy constraints imposed and the sense of an impending autumn with its return to some semblance of routine, however that might unfold.

The week begins with a thrust of energy and a desire to grab all the gusto we can before ending summer activities and getting back into our habitual patterns, no matter how skewed those patterns might be.

Like a shooting star flaming out, the early part of the week could have us accentuating our personal desires and seeking fun despite the regulations and restrictions.

The Leo New Moon on Tuesday [10:42 PM EDT] impacts the next two weeks up to the Full Moon on the 2nd of September and speaks to our enjoying ourselves as we continue in the heat of the summer sun. Summer may be ebbing, but we are flowing to the hot times in the summer sun.

Shortly after the New Moon, we feel the impulse of getting back on track of our regular activities as Mercury enters Virgo on Wednesday [9:30 PM EDT], followed by the Sun entering Virgo on Saturday [11:45 AM EDT].

The transits of Virgo trigger an Earth Grand Trine as the Virgo-transiting planets trine Uranus in Taurus and trine the three Capricorn-transiting planets of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto.

With the Earth Grand Trine influencing us until the Autumn Equinox on the 22nd of September, we can be highly effective and successfully productive these next five weeks. We may have to put on blinders and focus on what we wish to accomplish in spite of the nagging impulses to have some fun blowouts before the summer ends.

Despite the fact that we are dealing with crazy-making antics during these most disruptive times, there are blessings within the adversities, opportunities within the challenges. Like the Tao with its Yin and Yang energies integrating the dual nature to bring completion, we too have the opportunity of blending the positive and the negative in these times.

To some large degree, we might feel as though we are reliving what Charles Dickens wrote about in A Tale of Two Cities:

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,…”

Then [1859] and Now [2020].

Monday, August 17th – Light Up the Darkness – Uranus, Mercury, Mars, Sun. Monday begins the week with the Moon entering Leo where late in the day the Moon squares Uranus. We are on the dark side of the Moon prior to tomorrow’s New Moon. While this might seem more of a time to wrap up, complete rather than initiate, we also have Mercury trine Mars, and the Sun conjunct Mercury. The Leo energy is highlighted, and if we can put our individual mark on things today, whether plans or actions, we are likely to do so. We may be champing at the bit, wishing to put our spirit into action. Let’s keep in mind that starting new projects are better done under the waxing Moon and bringing matters to closure are better done under the waning Moon. This is a day when we are likely to want to get on with it, whatever ‘it’ might be, and an ‘it’ that possibly allows our creative juices to flow exhibiting our talents, enjoying ourselves, and whatever form our re-creating might take today. No matter what’s happening in the world, we are concentrating on our personal realm and focusing on lighting up the darkness.

Tuesday, August 18th – All In – Mars, Leo New Moon, Sun, Venus, Uranus. The Moon continues its transit of Leo with the Moon trine Mars and the Moon conjunct the Sun at the time of the Leo New Moon [10:42 PM EDT]. Venus sextiles Uranus. It is unlikely that we are going to do anything in half measures today or even over the next two weeks. We seem to be running on high octane with our pedal to the metal. We are all in and likely going for the gold. Although we have the sense that life is returning to a new ‘normal’, we are loath to let the summer pass without having some good times with good friends. This is a day when we might experience some interesting encounters. Being spontaneous and doing things on a whim could open the door to some exciting surprises. It is essential that we keep our antennae up, be open to peripheral vision, and anticipate wonderful opportunities. We might feel at the top of our game and look to expand our interests and our activities. Let’s keep in mind that we can sample any number of things without having to commit to any one thing.

Wednesday, August 19th – Making It Real – Mercury, Uranus, Mercury Virgo. Wednesday begins with the Leo Moon conjunct Mercury just before both the Moon and Mercury [9:30 PM EDT] exit Leo to both enter Virgo. The Virgo Moon trines Uranus. We are beginning the Earth Grand Trine with the Virgo-transiting planets trine Uranus in Taurus, and the Virgo-transiting planets trine the three Capricorn-transiting planets. We are moving into a concentrated focus on our regular business, our routine matters. We may be pulled between the dying embers of summertime activities and getting back on track of our habitual mundane affairs. Today and tomorrow can be highly productive. We could get more done with less expenditure of energy especially if we utilize streamlined methodologies and engage time management skills. By visualizing successful results, we might find the most expeditious ways to achieve our goals. Even if we would prefer to participate in recreational activities today, let’s use some of this day to take care of what needs to get done. Increasingly, we may figure out ways by which we can have our cake and eat it too, whereby we are able to address our responsibilities and still have time for our re-creational pursuits.

Thursday, August 20th – Prioritizing, Visualizing, Implementing – Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn. Thursday continues with the Virgo Moon with the Moon sextile Venus, the Moon opposed Neptune, and the Moon trine the three Capricorn-transiting planets of Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn. Yesterday and today can be highly effective with us able to deal with our obligations easily and successfully if we keep our eye on the ball. The key to today’s accomplishments is focused attention. If we would consider our priorities and dismiss appealing distractions, then we can achieve great results today by delineating what needs to be done, strategizing the means to realize our goals, and then with head down and persistent intention move towards checking off completion of our ‘to do’ list one by one. This is a day when we can work smarter rather than harder and show tremendous outcomes. We just need to remove any petty obstacles in our way and concentrate on our tasks at hand. We might prefer to go off and enjoy the summertime activities, and we can do so once we put our house in order. There is a time and place for everything, and this Wednesday and Thursday are especially geared to easily taking care of practical matters. We might start our weekend earlier tomorrow, but today is a day to constructively deal with our responsibilities.

Friday, August 21st – Air Out of Our Tires. Friday has the Moon moving into Libra. The Moon today makes no connections to the planets. After two days when we might have had our nose to the grindstone, moving mountains or winching boulders up hills; Friday allows us to let up on our efforts, take our foot off the gas, and relax in the company of other people or just luxuriate on our own. There isn’t a great deal of energy on this Friday, and we might decide to start the weekend early. This is the last full day of the Sun’s transit of Leo before the Sun moves into Virgo tomorrow when the beckoning call of autumn responsibilities becomes ever louder. Today is a good day for us to embrace serenity, to slow things down and take the time to appreciate all the wonder-filled blessings in our lives. With so much commotion, angst, anger and fear over these recent months, it is a welcome relief to take the time and step away from the crazy-making antics in order to align our perspective with the unfolding we see in nature, the perfection of life, even the wabi-sabi concept of ‘perfection in imperfection’. We are living in disruptive times, and even though disruption threatens our stability and a sense of security, it also breaks us free from a certain stagnation and opens the way to the new, the different, the more immediate. These may be challenging times, but they are also exciting times if we will accept the belief that ‘life is good’.

Saturday, August 22nd – Rushing Around – Lunar Grand Cross, Venus, Jupiter, Pluto, Mars, Sun Virgo. Hopefully, we took some time on Friday to catch our breath, enjoy the simple things of life, and feel that life does not always have to be in chaotic motion as if we are locked in on a mad tilt-a-whirl. For today, we may be back at it with the energy ramped up and us feeling like we are going a mile a minute. We might not have had the Libra Moon making connections to the planets yesterday, but today’s Libra Moon triggers a Cardinal Sign Grand Cross with the Libra Moon square Venus in Cancer, the Moon opposed Mars in Aries, and the Moon square both Jupiter and Pluto both in Capricorn. In the early morning hours of Sunday, the Moon squares Saturn, the third planet transiting Capricorn. The Sun exits Leo today to enter Virgo [11:45 AM EDT], adding to the Earth Element and giving greater influence to the Earth Grand Trine. We may be all over the place on this Saturday. Nothing would seem too much for us to handle, and someone may add to our load. Projects around our home may be calling us, back to school sales and closeout sales of various retailers shuttering their doors might beckon us. This is one of those days when we could feel like the Mad Hatter in Alice’s Wonderland racing around, feeling late for some important date. While it would be suggested that we slow things down, we might find ourselves so caught up in the chaotic motion that there is no slowing us down. Time management skills would also be suggested, but the impulse to ‘get while the getting is good’ may have us acting on impulse rather than well-considered thought. The Sun exiting Leo to enter Virgo reminds us to get back on track whether now or in the forthcoming days. Summertime activities could be winding down as we shift our attention to our everyday activities.

Sunday, August 23rd – First Things First – Saturn, Sun, Mercury. In the early morning hours of Sunday, the Libra Moon squares Saturn. The Moon then goes into Scorpio where today the Scorpio Moon sextiles both the Sun and Mercury both now in Virgo. If we didn’t flummox ourselves yesterday with a great deal of racing around and trying to accomplish too many things, this Sunday allows us to put our house in order. There could still be some tasks we need to attend to, but much of this day is geared to sorting through, straightening up, getting rid of, and preparing for getting back on track of our regular activities. We can be focused on this Sunday as to what we truly need in order to accomplish our goals. The superfluous and extraneous can go by the boards, as we concentrate on being a minimalist, doing much with little. The Earth Grand Trine reinforced yesterday by the Sun’s entry into Virgo gives us the opportunity for us to be practical and pragmatic. We can accomplish a great deal in our mundane affairs, not only successfully dealing with our responsibilities but also making great headway in regard to our long-term goals. First the clean out, then the blank slate upon which to build the solid foundation stones for our future.
