The astrology for this week of May 11th through the 17th of 2020 suggests we heed two sentiments expressed by psychologist Dr. Robert Anthony: “Moving fast is not the same as going somewhere” and “We tend to run faster when we have lost our way”.
This week we could question what is up and what is down. There are two planets changing Signs, and three planets going from direct into retrograde motion. Whenever planets are changing directions, things get squirrely. The shift in energy sometimes knocks us off center, and this week begins with Saturn turning retrograde, followed by Venus turning retrograde, and then Jupiter turning retrograde.
When planets are retrograde, there is a tendency for us to go back over situations and issues that we might have addressed earlier but that may still need an element of review or reworking. The energy of that planet becomes more internalized, more difficult to express. Saturn retrograde is often associated with a sense of hibernation, times when life seems to slow down and a time when things are liable to take longer than we might like. Aaargh, haven’t we been in enforced hibernation for long enough?
The week begins with us attending to our responsibilities but preferring to be somewhere other than where we are. Perhaps we’re still in lockdown mode but questioning ever more the sense of continuing the austere restrictions intended to keep us physically safe but with the unintended consequences of collateral damage by creating liability to our financial security and to our mental health.
No matter what the powers-that-be determine, increasingly we are looking at all possibilities, all options, all the while that we are champing at the bit or beginning our reentry into the world, whether sanctioned or not.
A feeling of doing the Texas two-step with one step forward, two steps back can be aggravating during the mid-week. Our physical energy can go through wild swings largely determined by our moods and our emotions. We have to be wary that we don’t pull out and play the victim card, feeling that we are only able to react to circumstance and conditions rather than taking a proactive approach and dealing as effectively as possible with the cards that we have been dealt.
While our emotions are heightened during the latter part of the week, we could be highly productive and able to navigate the maze with its twists and turns of our present situation. By drawing upon our ‘can do’ attitude, we might accomplish a great deal in moving the ball forward and advancing our ambitions.
We end the weekend confident of our abilities and with our eyes set on the distant horizon of our long-term goals.
If we would appreciate our blessings, recognize the opportunity to review and reconfigure how we have been doing our lives, this hiatus may have served us well and given us an extraordinary present. We are not going back to life as we have known it, but as the musical group R.E.M. in their classic song reminds us:
“It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine”
Monday, May 11th – Stomping on the Brakes – Neptune, Sun, Mercury, Mars, Mercury Gemini, Saturn retrograde. Although we often believe that Mondays tend to be ‘manic Mondays’ with us rushing out the door with a hundred and one things to accomplish, not so on this Monday. We might feel as though we have hit a wall as we start the day. Getting going on this Monday may be slow starting or with hiccups as we proceed into the day. The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn with the Moon making aspects later in the day with the Moon sextile Neptune, and the Moon trine the Sun. But for much of this day the Moon plays second fiddle to other significant energy configurations. Early in the day, Mercury squares Mars, and Saturn turns retrograde, the first of the three planets turning retrograde this week. We might begin the day with all sorts of ideas in mind only to find ourselves vexed and blocked at every turn we take. Let’s recognize that delays and frustrations are liable to be evident no matter how fast we go, what our intentions might be, or how well-planned our moves seem in concept. There’s no messing with Mother Nature or with the universal energies. This Monday calls for us to fully embrace patience and an appreciation for timing, that there are times when we are likely to be stymied, other times when we might be operating on greased wheels. The morning hours can have us feeling stymied. No matter how we stress or strain, things may take longer than we like and with no successful outcome guaranteed. Later on this Monday, the Moon’s aspects kick in, and Mercury exits Taurus ending the Stellium of three planets in the Fixed Earth Sign, and Mercury enters Gemini, a Sign that Mercury rules. Our rigidity could lighten up, our expectations and willfulness lessen, and our ability to see more options and alternatives rather than just our narrow perspective increase significantly. Let’s keep in mind that life and ‘right action’ are all about timing, and today is largely a day to slow down, apply braking action, and take a deep breath in the morning hours, and get our head in gear and our house in order during the latter part of the day.
Tuesday, May 12th – The Future is Now – Pluto, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury, Saturn. Tuesday has the Moon completing its transit of Capricorn, and as it does so, the Moon conjuncts both Pluto and Jupiter. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for five hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Capricorn and before the Moon enters Aquarius where today the Aquarius Moon trines Mercury and the Moon conjuncts Saturn. Mercury trines Saturn. Not only can we tie up loose ends of outstanding matters, but we can focus on our most meaningful ambitions. This is a day that allows us to deal with our past and present obligations to resolve them, and then concentrate on our future goals. We can consider our future possibilities and do so in a well-conceived manner. We might draw upon other people’s input, people who have an expertise in the area we wish to explore and people who are detached and objective in their perspective. This Tuesday can be a highly productive day when we are effective in dealing with our responsibilities early in the day and then may turn our attention to our future goals later in the day. Tuesday is a great balance of where we have been and where we intend to go. Let’s keep in mind that this hiatus during the imposed lockdown has provided us the opportunity to reconfigure our lives. In getting back on track with our lives, our track and our direction does not have to re-create our past but rather be a foray into a new future — brighter days through better ways.
Wednesday, May 13th – Resourceful – Uranus, Mars Pisces, Venus retrograde. Wednesday continues with the Aquarius Moon with the Moon today square Uranus. Mars exits Aquarius to enter Pisces, and Venus turns retrograde. Wednesday demands that we be resourceful and recognize the truth to the saying that ‘where there’s a will there’s a way’. We might assume that we just do not have the resources — whether monies, time, focus, or capabilities — to successfully accomplish a new trajectory for ourselves. We could even fall into an emotional pit, allowing our self-doubts and our conditioned victimhood to get the better of us. Our moods may go through wild swings and much of our physical energy dependent on whether we are feeling upbeat and confident or down and despairing. What we would fail to take into account is the new modus operandi of the paradigm shift where things can happen in a most unexpected, even inexplicable, manner. Even if we assume that there is no magic afoot, such a belief would be based upon the blinders of our old mindset whereby we accepted that we personally had to make things happen in order for them to happen. Say it ain’t so! In true reality, the paradigm shift opens the door to asequential reality where things occur in what we might perceive as magic or miracles and being considered such because they don’t fit into our earlier narrow viewpoint, our conditioned restrictive perspective. Much of the energy on this Wednesday occurs in the early morning hours. This day demands that we utilize what we have at hand to forge ahead into new directions, new ways of doing things. We do have to be cautious in our relationships. We might have a chip on our shoulder and look more to confrontations than collaborations. Let’s not allow our own discomfort to taint our connections with other people. Everyone is likely to have gone through periods of soul searching over recent weeks or felt confined by limits imposed on the parameters of our life. We need to cut ourselves and everyone else an awful lot of slack as we try to regroup and re-enter the outer world.
Thursday, May 14th – Hurrahs No Matter the Expense – Venus, Sun, Moon Void-of-Course, Jupiter retrograde. The early morning hours of Thursday has the Aquarius Moon trine Venus, and the Moon square the Sun. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for almost eleven and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon completes its transit of Aquarius and before the Moon enters Pisces late in the day. The third of this week’s three beginning retrograde cycles occurs in the morning with Jupiter turning retrograde. We may be enjoying the company of someone or other people, even if we are still maintaining social distancing. The imposed isolation may be lessening, but it seems as though our connection with other people is still somewhat standoffish. Not that significant change in how we relate to other people began with the coronavirus reaction. On the contrary, it would seem the culprit of true ‘distancing’ in relationships began with social media interaction whereby one is able to discuss the most intimate details behind the safety screen of the computer or smart phone and can even generate a totally different persona. In whatever ways we choose to engage other people, we are likely to do so on this Thursday. We may be far more interested in our social engagements than our personal goals and ambitions today. Perhaps we have felt too isolated and in dire need of human contact, and so we reach out by whatever means to touch someone and probably more than just one someone.
Friday, May 15th – Handling Our Emotions – Mars, Uranus, Mercury, Sun, Pluto. Friday continues with the Pisces Moon with the Moon conjunct Mars early in the day. Later, the Moon sextiles Uranus and the Moon squares Mercury. The Sun trines Pluto. We might have a restless night with our emotions geared up. Even if our sleep state is a jumble of nerves and concerns, let’s get a grip as we start the day. The more we can discipline our moods and not let ourselves be swayed by our feelings, the more productive we can be on this Friday. Friday and much of the weekend would be good times to accomplish a great deal. We just need to prioritize our activity list, focus on the truly meaningful, and engage innovative means to achieve results. By having our head down, doing what needs to be done, this Friday and much of the weekend would allow us to successfully address mundane matters, tie up loose ends, and prepare ourselves for next weekend, which in the US is the long Memorial Day holiday weekend, also considered the unofficial start to the summer. While we might have more opportunities to be out and about thanks to a lessening of the imposed lockdown we all have been subject to, we have to be wary that we don’t fritter away the day by doing anything and everything with little purpose except a breath of fresh air and a sense of deep relief. We can certainly engage distractions today and over the weekend, but let’s not lose sight that the energies support us in being productive and getting many of our matters in order.
Saturday, May 16th – Escapes into Escapades – Neptune, Venus, Pluto. Saturday continues with the Pisces Moon with the Moon today conjunct Neptune, and the Moon square Venus, and the Moon sextile Pluto late in the day. Today is a good day for us to tune out to the apparent realities of what is going on in the world-at-large. Some of us may already have become skeptical to the official presentations as to what is going on, and we might choose to retreat into our own private world today. Our emotions could be heightened and our intuitive sense attuned. We can get a feeling about what is really going on whether or not it jibes with the consensus opinion or the official declarations. Not everyone may be in agreement with our assessment. If we are going to give voice to our perceptions, it might be wiser for us to preach to the choir rather than to convince someone who considers our ideas to be nothing more than baseless conspiracy theories. While Saturday is a good day to jump off the track or at least to escape into our own personal escapades, at the end of the day and for much of Sunday it would be suggested that we return our attention to what we want to get done, complete and resolve before the weekend is over.
Sunday, May 17th – Present, Past and Future – Sun, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course, Saturn. Sunday is considered a day of rest, but any rest would have been suggested more for Saturday than this Sunday. This day has the Pisces Moon sextile the Sun in Taurus, and the Moon sextile Jupiter in Capricorn. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for five and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon completes its transit of Pisces and before the Moon enters Aries where today the Moon sextiles Saturn. The Sun trines Jupiter. Despite some ‘time outs’ yesterday, Friday into this Sunday are primed for productive work. By prioritizing our activities and focusing on what we wish to resolve before we lose the Sun’s Taurean influence to Gemini next week, we can deal with outstanding matters, address present needs, and prepare for our future interests. We are likely to feel confident and upbeat and aiming towards successful outcomes of our various involvements. The wind may feel as if to our back with things moving ahead easily and effectively. With the Moon in Pisces and then in Aries today, we are ending one monthly cycle and beginning another one. Let’s get done what needs to be done and lay the groundwork for our new engagements.
