March 2nd – 8th, 2020

The astrology for this week of March 2nd through the 8th of 2020 may have us more inspired by our future than our present day realities. And who could blame us?

The constant bombardment of arousing fear can be incredibly depleting — emotionally, mentally, physically. And it seems non-stop. Whether it’s the coronavirus or the wave of locusts across the African continent or the dramatic downturn in the fortunes of the world economy and global markets, it would seem as though some of the four horsemen of the apocalypse are in full gallop wreaking havoc, destruction and snuffing out lives.

As of this writing, close to 3,000 people have died from the coronavirus. With close to 40,000 closed cases, 93% of the patients have recovered and been discharged, while 7% or 3000 people have died from the virus. Of the 44,000 active cases, 82% of the patients have a mild condition and 18% are in serious or critical condition.

The liability of this pandemic is being compared in the news media to the 1918 influenza pandemic, commonly referred to as the Spanish flu, that infected some 500 million people around the world, with a death toll estimated at between 40 and 50 million people, with some estimates going as high as 100 million deaths with a world population virtually one-fourth of today’s global population.

The Ebola virus epidemic of 2013-2016 impacted almost 29,000 people with over 11,000 deaths. The SARS [severe acute respiratory syndrome] outbreak in 2002-2003 had over 8000 cases and close to 800 deaths reported.

In the US, the 2019-2020 flu season has seen 14,000 people die, 250,000 hospitalized, and more than 26 million people ill with flu-like symptoms.

The swarm of locusts destroying the crops in East Africa has been referred to as ‘a scourge of Biblical proportions’. Throughout the centuries, plagues of locusts have been pervasive.

In reaction to all the disheartening news, I am reminded of the classic song Nature’s Way by the band Spirit with the lyrics:

“It’s nature’s way of telling you something’s wrong
It’s nature’s way of telling you in a song”

To add to the frenzy and the fear, the equity markets have been tanking with people more insistent that the coronavirus will trigger a global recession, if not another global depression.

To put this present time in perspective, it is important to keep in mind that we have been dealing with four planets in Capricorn, three of which are in the third decanate of Capricorn, the Virgo decanate, with Virgo associated with our health and health regimen. We have also had three planets in Pisces with Mercury retrograding through Pisces, a Sign of Detriment for Mercury, where Mercury’s thinking ability becomes diffuse, confused, emotional and liable to anxiety and fearfulness.

Although Mercury will still be retrograde until next week when Mercury turns direct on the 9th, Mercury will exit Pisces and retrograde back into Aquarius on Wednesday and with the transit back into Aquarius, we might all be able to get a grip, more of a handle on reality and less swayed by hype, illusions and anxieties.

This week of March 2nd through the 8th begins with our anxiety level ratcheted up. If we could avoid allowing our imagination to run riot, we might prevent depleting ourselves for no real good reason. We might engross ourselves with busy work and put off more significant demands.

Mid-week has Mercury moving into Aquarius and Venus exiting Aries to enter its own Sign of Venus. The second half of the week may have us more grounded, better able to consider options and alternatives and give thought to things that actually work. No longer do we have to play the victim role, whereby we may have been passive, reactive and in a state of fearful confusion. On the contrary, like the coming of the Spring season, we could have a sense of renewal and rebirth.

We might still prefer self-care to dealing with our responsibilities during the second half of the week. With Mercury retrograde, the self-care seems a far wiser approach than trying to progress with our personal ambitions when the conditions have been squirrely and forward progress has been a zig-zag at best, the Texas two-step – one step forward two steps back – at the worst.

Mercury turns direct early next week and offers far better times for us to be functional and productive.

The latter part of this week and the weekend are geared more toward taking care of ourselves and enjoying ourselves.

We end the weekend with some fascinating surprises and pleasant encounters.

Monday, March 2nd – Wiped Out – Sun. Monday begins the week with the Gemini Moon square the Sun. Our nerves may be shot, and we might want to do something, virtually anything, but without a clue as to which way to go. We could have so many possibilities on this Monday that we wind up spinning our wheels. Someone might add to our anxiety due to their having an extremely hard time that we are unable to do anything to relieve their suffering. It seems that few people right now are feeling upbeat, more likely down and in a depressed state. Like a contagion, focusing on the negative only fosters ill feelings and builds upon itself, adding to the sense of being victim to any and all predicaments to the point of being catastrophic. While it is easy to suggest ‘get over it’, it’s hard not to be impacted by all the negative news and agitated discussions going on. This is a day for us to seek an escape valve and go off to our happy place, a safe space whether real or imaginary where the world is a lot brighter and where problems can be dealt with easily and logically and negative matters can dissolve. Either we find that happy place for ourselves, or we are likely to feel wiped out today. Let’s opt for happy.

Tuesday, March 3rd – Feelings, Just a Jumble of Feelings – Neptune, Venus, Mercury, Saturn. Tuesday continues with the Gemini Moon with the Moon square Neptune early in the morning and the Moon sextile Venus later in the day. At the end of the day, the Moon moves into Cancer where the Moon trines Mercury. Venus squares Saturn. Our sleep state may be agitated Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Our fears can be pronounced as a result of something we hear during Monday. Add to our own personal concerns, the bombardment of stimuli, information and misinformation, and we may be in a dither as to what to do and when to do it. Our emotions are heightened today, and input from other people can be anxiety provoking. Interactions with other people could be dicey and problematic. We might feel constrained by our responsibilities or by someone trying to keep us from doing what we want to do. We may need a grounding rod today to keep us from being swept away by our feelings and by the general fearfulness sweeping society. Yesterday and today call for us to draw upon our faith and our belief that whatever is thrown our way we can handle and handle successfully. Often our greatest fear turns out to be only an illusion. Let’s not buy into the fear-mongering that might only lead to a catatonic paralysis. As the saying affirms: ‘we never get more than we can handle’. The energy shifts late in the day, and we can get a better handle on our emotions and consider options we had not previously taken into account.

Wednesday, March 4th – Brighter Day, Better Way – Uranus, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Mercury Aquarius, Venus Taurus. The beauty of these times during this paradigm shift is the asequential reality that things can change dramatically and suddenly in a nanosecond and in the most inexplicable ways. After two days of doing the dance with various Eeyores, where problems only seem to be added one onto another with an apocalyptic outcome, Wednesday shifts the energy dramatically. The Cancer Moon today sextiles Uranus, and the Moon opposes Mars. Mercury retrogrades out of Pisces and back into Aquarius and Mercury sextiles Venus just before Venus exits Aries to enter its own Sign of Taurus today. We may all be sighing a sense of relief today. Even if global conditions continue to seem to be on a downward spiral, we are less likely to get caught up into the crazy-making antics. On the contrary, we might feel as if we are able to deal with whatever curveballs come our way. Thinking outside the box and engaging alternatives might prove a winning combination to effectively deal with our present conditions. The shift of Mercury, still retrograde, out of Pisces and into Aquarius makes our thinking less confused, less reactionary, with a willingness to consider options that we might not have previously considered. We can also seem a little more upbeat with a dose of ‘Spring fever’. This Wednesday might prove to be a brighter day through a better way.

Thursday, March 5th – Comforts of Home, Or – Sun, Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto. Thursday continues with the Cancer Moon with the Moon early in the day trine both the Sun and Neptune both in Pisces. The Moon then opposes both Jupiter and Pluto. After some of the possible pleasantries that Wednesday offered us, we might begin this Thursday savoring our home, family, and the comforts of our lives. We might prefer to luxuriate and takes things slowly today only to have our responsibilities and usual routine impede upon our desire for down time. The sense of what we should do and a willingness to go out of our way for someone could have us getting back on track. Someone might play the guilt card and our own sense of being spiritual and accommodating might even lead us from service into self-sacrifice. If we overextend ourselves today, there would be no one to blame but ourselves. While we might prefer time for ourselves to do whatever we wish to do, we can deal with what needs to get done today in order to have much of the next two days as ‘play’ days, days when we can focus on expressing our creative talents and getting a second wind by participating in re-creational activities. Let’s avoid a tug-of-war between our desires and needs, accommodate our needs today in order to embrace our desires over the next two days.

Friday, March 6th – No Matter the Cost – Saturn, Venus, Uranus. Friday has the Moon completing its transit of Cancer with the Moon opposed Saturn. The Moon then goes into Leo where today the Moon squares both Venus and Uranus both in Taurus. Any residue of our tasks and obligations yet concluded could have us completing certain matters early in the day. We may want to deal with any pressing needs prior to the weekend and a weekend we intend to begin early. Much of our interests today shift more toward our expressions of self-affirmations and creative outlets. We might be oblivious to the costs involved, for we are far more engaged in providing ourselves with levity, good times, and a relief from the panic mode presently contagious in our society. Every now and then we need a breather from apparent reality, and Friday and Saturday of this week can provide that respite. If we would budget our expenditures, we could keep ourselves from spending too much. There can be unexpected expenses and costs more than we anticipated, but our main focus on this Friday is good times and outlets for our creative expressions.

Saturday, March 7th – Idling Moment. Saturday continues with the Leo Moon, but the Moon today makes no major connections to the planets. We might seem in idling mode, but we are not likely to be idle today. On the contrary, this is a day for us to enjoy ourselves in whatever and wherever we might choose to do so. Like a blank slate, this Saturday allows us a broad spectrum from which to draw. The key characteristic to this day is re-create. All of us are being bombarded with a constant barrage of fear-inducing information with much of it having very little direct impact upon us as individuals. Although we are being presented with an apocalyptic vision of our impending future, I have often reminded myself through the years of the wise advice offered in Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda from his guru Sri Yukteswar: “Look fear in the face and it will cease to trouble you”. These words I have held steadfast mantram-like over many decades during some of my most troubling times, words that might be appropriate and a comfort during these present times of immense disruption. No matter how difficult things may seem to be or the anxiety that consumes us, we do need breaks of relief from such Eeyore-like attitude. Friday and Saturday offer us breaks when we can focus more on the uplifting and fun aspects of doing life than the drudge and fearfulness of living. Let’s go for the joy today no matter how we might individually choose to do so. We may have been taught that ‘idle hands are the devil’s workshop’, but idling can also offer us the opportunity to step away from our habitual patterns, take in a fresh perspective, and recharge, reinvigorate and renew ourselves. This Saturday is geared towards positive idling.

Sunday, March 8th – All Things Possible – Mercury, Venus, Uranus, Sun, Neptune. Sunday begins with the Leo Moon opposed Mercury. The Moon then goes into Virgo where today the Moon trines both Venus and Uranus both in Taurus. The Sun conjuncts Neptune, and Venus conjuncts Uranus. In the US, this is the day that begins daylight savings time when we change our clocks and spring forward into a sense of greater sunlight during our waking hours. Friday and Saturday would have been well spent as a ‘time out’ from our regular routine, two days when we could have taken a breather from our usual patterns. Although we might still be in fun mode to begin this day, the energy shifts early and dramatically on this Sunday. As if feeling our spirit and soul connection and willing to cast off our anxiety, we might feel impelled to do a significant transformation to our lives in the form of a personal makeover, wardrobe purchases, fix-ups around our home, and/or adding touchups to our environment. This is a day when we can feel far more in touch with our own essence, appreciate that we have a personal destiny and an individual journey no matter the hills or valleys we may have to traverse. In getting back in tune with the depth of our being, we could also be pleasantly surprised by some of our encounters today. Let’s keep in mind that during these times of intense disruptions as we cross through the paradigm shift, we are also privy to magic and mini-miracles and things occurring in the most inexplicable manner. We just need to be open in order to receive. Today is a good day to bump up our personal soul connection and express our creativity through our spirit in action.
