January 1st – 7th, 2018

The astrology for this first week of 2018, from January 1st through the 7th, regales us with possibilities and with responsibilities as we begin the new year.

Happy New Year!

The week begins with a Supermoon, the Cancer Full Moon.

The beginning of this year can have us thinking about our responsibilities but also considering our resolutions for the year ahead. In times past, we might have felt as though we had to virtually move mountains to accomplish our goals. Increasingly, we may come to realize that we are only part of the equations in our accomplishments — other parts including the people in our life and the most significant parts being the twists and turns of the universe unfolding with its strong impact upon us.

2017 was the beginning of a nine-year cycle, a year of initiations, new directions and an unsettling sense that we had stepped beyond normalcy into a different dimension, a rather turbulent and tumultuous realm that offered us no clear directives. Many people felt anxious during this past year as though things were never in their full control [as though they ever were] with some people always waiting for another shoe to drop.

Hopefully this year we can replace anxiety and fearfulness with eager anticipation and enthusiastic excitement. We might not understand fully what is likely to unfold, but we can maintain a hopeful attitude that no matter the ride that our ride with its ups and downs will eventually prove to be rewarding, fulfilling and always exciting.

The mid-part of this week allows us to get more settled into our creative pursuits. Whether participant or observer we could find ourselves looking for venues of fun events and expressive endeavors.

The weekend puts focus on straightening up, tidying up, and getting rid of the dross of the past in order to make space for the new and provide room for our new year’s resolutions.

We can line our ducks up in a row, prioritize our intended pursuits and concentrate on the goals we have set for ourselves in this brand spanking new year.

We could have some fascinating insights over the weekend, hear some surprising developments and become aware of new trajectories that truly speak to us and seem a perfect fit for us.

The end of the weekend can find us relaxing, enjoying the company of the special someone and engaging balance. The new year can start fast out of the starting gate, but the end of this week allows us to catch our breath and to stop and smell the flowers.

Monday, January 1st – In With a Bang Fully Lit – Moon Void-of-Course, Saturn, Venus, Sun, Neptune. The day and year begins with the Gemini Moon Void-of-Course as the Moon finishes its transit of Gemini without making any further connections to the planets and before the Moon enters Cancer early on this Monday morning. The Cancer Moon triggers a Full Moon and a Supermoon with the Moon opposed the Sun, Saturn and Venus all in Capricorn, and the Moon trine Neptune. This Supermoon also has a most impressive astrological signature creating as it does a Kite Pattern chart where by orb the Cancer Moon triggers a Water Grand Trine with the Moon trine Neptune in Pisces and the Moon in orb of a trine to Mars and Jupiter both in Scorpio. The Scorpio and Pisces transiting planets are sextile to the Capricorn transiting planets. This is a most powerful astrological signature to start the new year. We may find ourselves doing a balancing act between our involvements in the world [our professional side] with our home and family interests [our personal side]. If we would trust our inner voice, even if the empirical seems to contradict our intuitive knowing, we might discover that we are guided in the right direction. We might also realize the truth that everything works out the way it’s supposed to, no matter whether we mess things up or we try to control situations. The wabi-sabi Japanese philosophy of the perfection of imperfection could be our guiding mantra as we move forward, this year and in the years ahead.

Tuesday, January 2nd – Burst of Energy – Mars, Jupiter, Lunar T-Square, Pluto, Uranus, Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Neptune, Uranus direct. Tuesday continues with the Cancer Moon with the Moon today trine Mars and trine Jupiter both in Scorpio. The Moon triggers a Cardinal Sign T-Square with the Moon opposed Pluto and the Moon square Uranus. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course later in the day for eight and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Cancer and before the Moon enters Leo early on Wednesday. The Sun sextiles Neptune, and Uranus turns direct. Reveries and contemplations could prove a large part of this Tuesday. We might have a strong sense of where we intend to go and what we intend to do. This is a good day for us to rid ourselves of the extraneous and to be rid of old matters that offer us little. We could feel a burst of energy, want to cry out ‘I gotta be me’, and determine that we shall emphasize our autonomy in what we do, how we do it and where we do it. Past commitments could rein in our desire to be free of limitations and restrictions, but no matter our latitude we are looking to put our personal imprint on the things we do.

Wednesday, January 3rd – Guiding Light – Venus, Neptune. Wednesday has the Moon moving into Leo but without the Moon making any connections to the planets today. The main influence today is Venus sextile Neptune. There are times when we become still and are able to quiet the static around us that we are gently prodded and given a key to understanding. This Wednesday could prove one of those days. As though an interlude between the frenzy of the start of a new year, today we might find that we are becoming aware of circumstances and conditions that we just didn’t see when we were in our usually fast-paced life involvements. If we would take the time to reflect and contemplate today, we may get some ‘ah-ha’ moment[s] that would guide us as to how best to achieve our goals. Someone could prove of great assistance in helping us focus on the truly meaningful and discard the useless distractions and diversions that often confuse our direction. This is a day for us to engage tai chi moves and incorporate the art of feng shui. The more we appreciate the importance of subtle movements and seek to create balance in our life [in our home, in our activities, in our attitude and in our being], not only can we be more effective with less expenditure of energy, we could also develop more core strength and not be as impacted by the vagaries of these tumultuous times.

Thursday, January 4th – Back At It – Mars, Jupiter, Lunar Grand Trine, Mercury, Uranus, Moon Void-of-Course. Thursday continues with the Leo Moon with the Moon today square Mars and Jupiter both in Scorpio before the Moon triggers a Fire Grand Trine as the Leo Moon trines Mercury in Sagittarius and the Moon trines Uranus in Aries. We can start the day with our old conditioned mindset of needing to make things happen. The irony of these times is that the harder we try, the more resistance we might experience, whereas the more attuned to the energies and willingness to work with the energies, the more successful we might be and with less exertion. The paradigm shift asks us to let go of control with our attempt to manipulate things by our will, our brawn and our brain. Instead, the shifting sands of these transitional times suggest that we become co-creators with the universe unfolding, recognize the energies as they are unfolding and work in accord with the energies as co-creators rather than control freaks. This Thursday could start with us overdoing — trying too hard, expending too much energy in time, effort or finances. At the start of this Thursday, we might feel as though we are Sisyphus-like stressing and straining to roll a boulder up the mountain only to have it fall back on us. Our attempts of mastering conditions in accord with how we want them might prove futile. Although we might wake up with old conditioned responses, as the day progresses we could actually ‘wake up’, smarten up, and be open to unexpected ways of doing things and new trajectories for ourselves. A light bulb could go off where we are more open to insights and understandings. The empirical may be all well and good, but this day might also provide those mini-miracles that give lie to the ‘tried and true’. Let’s take off our blinders, work with peripheral vision and be open to the clues along the way today. Late in the day the Moon goes Void-of-Course for nine hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Leo and before the Moon enters Virgo early on Friday morning.

Friday, January 5th – First Thing First – Saturn, Neptune. The Moon enters Virgo early on this Friday morning, and today the Moon trines Saturn to begin our day and the Moon opposes Neptune to end our day. We can take care of any number of responsibilities and details that we wish to achieve today. Our time management skills might be astute with our ability of putting things in their right place and concluding certain outstanding matters. If we would plan our day, take things step by step and check things off on our ‘to do’ list as we complete them, we can get a lot done. The evening hours could have us fantasizing or imbibing a little too much. We could find ourselves in a swirl of possibilities, all the while wishing to escape our responsibilities. This Friday is a day to attend first things first. The more we accomplish during the day, we can use the evening hours to escape into our fantasy world. We do have to watch for being a little too hard on ourselves, overly critiquing ourselves and buying into a perfectionist attitude that just doesn’t jibe with present day reality that has its share of turbulence, confusion and chaos. But amidst it all, let’s always keep in mind that things can change and change dramatically in a nanosecond or less.

Saturday, January 6th – Pedal to the Metal – Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, Mercury, Moon Void-of-Course, Uranus. Saturday could find the energy ramping up severalfold. This is one powerful and high energy day, and a day when we can get a great deal done. The Virgo Moon trines the Capricorn transiting planets of Venus, the Sun and Pluto. The Moon also sextiles Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio. Late in the day the Moon squares Mercury before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over eleven hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Virgo and before the Moon enters Libra tomorrow. Mercury trines Uranus and Mars conjuncts Jupiter today. Saturday could have us building a head of steam with all systems ‘go’ and able for us to take care of any necessary errands, lay down the foundation stones of some of our goals and doing all and then some more in a most resourceful and best practices approach. This Saturday is a primo day. Not only can we take care of our tasks. We could gain some fascinating insights, hear some exciting news and be receptive to new trajectories that truly speak to our doing our own thing. Once engaged, we might find that there’s no stopping us. We do have to be wary towards the end of the day that we haven’t been running on adrenaline, exhausted ourselves and wind up running on empty. Oh well, tomorrow we can lounge about and recharge our batteries. Today, it’s a day to go for the gold.

Sunday, January 7th – Down Time – Saturn. Yesterday could have had us firing on all cylinders with us operating at turbospeed and being highly productive and effective in everything we did. We could have worn ourselves out, and this Sunday takes the energy down several notches. The Moon today moves into Libra where today the Moon squares Saturn. Even if we have committed to certain plans today, we might far prefer to bow out and just take the day to relax, recharge and regroup. Any plans that we have to engage may be better done earlier in the day than later. Let’s be wary of a tug-of-war with someone over our time and our scheduling. Someone might try to cash in an I.O.U. today and that could trigger resentment or a feeling of being imposed upon. It would be wise to keep things diplomatic and not allow anything to escalate into rancor or anger. It might be far better for us to put out the sign ‘gone fishing’ than to engage situations that could prove to be no win scenarios.
