The astrology for this week of December 18th through the 24th is replete with various significant changes. This is not one of those weeks when the more things change the more they stay the same. On the contrary, there are major and long-lasting shifts going on this week.
We begin the week with the Sagittarius New Moon. This New Moon has five planets in Sagittarius with most of them trine to Uranus. If we could get out of town for the holidays, we are likely to choose to do so. If we stay in town, we might put on our adventurer’s hat and explore new possibilities for ourselves. Same old, same old just isn’t going to cut it. It’s the holidays, and we all might want a dramatic break from the usual routine.
One major change comes on Tuesday – Wednesday as Saturn ends its two and a half year cycling through Sagittarius to begin its two and half year transit of its own Sign, Capricorn.
We follow that up with the Winter Solstice on Thursday as the Sun comes into Capricorn to trigger the winter season. The Sun’s entrance into Capricorn creates a Stellium of three planets in the Cardinal Earth Sign as the Sun joins Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. The Sun and Saturn conjunct. You can see my take on the Winter in my seasonal e-letter and posting, but suffice it to say that it may be a hard, cold winter with the opportunity of rebuilding or building anew hopefully on solid foundations.
Added to all this, we have Mercury ending its three-week retrograde cycle and turning direct on Friday – Saturday.
The week begins with a thrust of energy, as the holiday cheer may seem infectious. We might be hitting the wall shortly thereafter but serendipitous encounters can put a smile on our face and reaffirm an upbeat attitude.
The latter part of the week can have us feeling the chill of winter, either the weather itself or a sense of frustration and our feeling blocked.
The weekend begins with Mercury turning direct. Remember that whenever Mercury is turning direction, whether from direct motion to retrograde motion or from retrograde motion to direct motion, things can get highly squirrely until we find our sea legs in order to cope with the change in the rhythm. This is Christmas weekend, so it would be wise to add on extra time getting from place to place with contingency plans in mind.
The weekend can be pleasant gatherings, full of spirits and good cheer. Amidst all the holiday celebrating, let’s take a moment to tap into our spiritual nature and be thankful for all the varied blessings in our lives.
Monday, December 18th – Creating Our Template – Sagittarius New Moon, Sun, Saturn, Mars. Monday gives us the Sagittarius New Moon with a Stellium of five planets in the Mutable Fire Sign. Much of the Sagittarian energy is in the third decanate of Sag [the Leo decanate]. The Sagittarius Moon conjuncts both the Sun and Saturn. The Moon then moves into Capricorn where today the Moon sextiles Mars. This Monday and over the two week period up to the Full Moon on the 1st – 2nd of January is a time for us to resolve our intended creative endeavors for the year ahead. We can be in an expansionary mood and committed to making our personal world a far better place in which to live despite what might be going on in the world-at-large. This is also the last day of Saturn’s two and a half year transit of Sagittarius and before Saturn enters its own Sign of Capricorn tomorrow. Whatever has gone on over the past two plus years that might have hampered our individual pursuits, now is a time for us to recognize and appreciate the limitations as having been honing processes. From some of the delays and frustrations we may have experienced, we could have tempered our rush to accomplish, matured and developed a far better approach to our plans and goals. This Monday is a day to celebrate our creative sparks and profess that the right means to successfully express our abilities will come forward. We can begin to develop the template on which to establish the ingredients for the successful accomplishment of our goals.
Tuesday, December 19th – Grounded in Reality – Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn Capricorn. Tuesday continues with the Capricorn Moon with the Moon today sextile Neptune in Pisces, the Moon sextile Jupiter in Scorpio and the Moon conjunct Pluto. Late in the day, Saturn exits Sagittarius to begin its two and half year transit through its own Sign of Capricorn. Whether tying up loose ends that we wish to complete prior to the new year or considering the means to accomplish our plans for the new year, this Tuesday may have us focused on what needs to get done. While we can draw upon our experience and our developed expertise, let’s keep in mind that under this paradigm shift we do NOT have to do it all. The universe is a willing partner in our plans, in our process and in our creations. We could get some interesting feelings today, and it would be wise for us to listen to our inner voice. We don’t have to have blind faith, but let’s at least acknowledge that there are times when we know without knowing, when certain senses just seem right. This Tuesday might be one of those days. We can get more ‘bang’ for our buck today, for we can be resourceful and focused. We may prioritize our activities with astute time management skills. We are looking at what is truly important for us. We may take on a more serious tone, but we don’t have to be heavy about it or feel victim to the craziness that seems to be the present tone of the world-at-large.
Wednesday, December 20th – In Spite of Our Self – Uranus, Moon Void-of-Course, Venus. Wednesday continues with the Capricorn Moon with the Moon square Uranus. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for eleven hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Capricorn and before the Moon enters Aquarius late in the day. Venus trines Uranus. Responsibilities can get in the way of what we want to do spontaneously. While we might assume that our options are being limited by our mundane reality, a surprising encounter can happen nonetheless. There are times during this paradigm shift of our moving into asequential reality, that unexpected situations arise even while we are involved in the most boring daily obligations. This Wednesday could be one of those days. Let’s not grouse about having to attend to routine matters, but let’s also be open to the magic and mini-miracles of these times when astonishing situations can arise during those moments when we are not even looking for them. Someone might be the catalyst for us to consider new trajectories or they could provide the opportunity for us to be aware of possibilities we were not even aware of. There can be some wonder-filled surprises today in spite of our self.
Thursday, December 21st – Cold, Hard Winter – Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Winter Solstice, Saturn Capricorn. Thursday brings closure to the autumn season and begins the winter season at the Winter Solstice as the Sun enters Capricorn. We are at the darkest day of the year in the northern latitudes. The Aquarius Moon squares Mars and the Moon sextiles Mercury. As the Sun enters Capricorn, the Sun conjuncts Saturn. Whether it’s the frenzy of the holidays or just feeling burnt out, we may feel as though the wind has been knocked out of our sails. We could have various plans for this Thursday, but we might choose to forego many of them. This is the last day of the three-week Mercury retrograde cycle with Mercury turning direct tomorrow. It would be wise to add on extra time for everything we choose to do today. Things may take longer than we like, and we just might not have the energy to forcefully push things through. It is important that we not overdo today and to be careful regarding our skeletal structure. We could have issues with our back, back aches or strains, a liability today and during much of this winter.
Friday, December 22nd – Keystone Kops Get Away – Jupiter, Uranus, Mercury direct. Friday begins the Christmas holiday weekend. Many people may either take the day off or leave early to engage their holiday plans. This Friday has the Aquarius Moon square Jupiter and the Moon sextile Uranus. Mercury ends its three-week retrograde cycle and turns direct. This is a day for us to keep a tight rein on our finances. Last minute holiday shopping could find us going overboard, spending more than we intended and being generous to a fault. Social gatherings can be great fun. We might meet interesting people or reconnect with people we haven’t seen for a while. Everyone may be upbeat. It is essential that we keep in mind that Mercury turning direct can create various travel problems. Let’s add on extra time getting from place to place and have contingency plans if we have to change our intended plans. Spontaneity may be called for in the evening hours due to unexpected situations altering our itinerary.
Saturday, December 23rd – Ways it Could Be – Venus, Saturn, Sun. Saturday begins with the Aquarius Moon sextile Venus. The Moon then moves into Pisces where today the Moon sextiles Saturn and the Moon sextiles the Sun with both the Sun and Saturn in Capricorn. Getting attuned to Mercury having turned direct yesterday, we might be feeling more upbeat and better able to cope with the logistics of our holiday plans. Certainly there can be good cheer in our interactions with other people. We could be enjoying social occasions or contacting people at a distance with whom we wish to share our news of recent events and enquire as to their news. We may be putting on the finishing touches to our Christmas plans — shopping, decorating, cooking, all the ingredients that go into the celebrations on Monday. We might also reflect on our Christmas’ past, remembering previous times with family and friends. A walk down Memory Lane can be pleasant reveries and in so doing we could embrace the spirit of this time — the quiet peaceful and loving qualities that this time of year engenders.
Sunday, December 24th – All Together Now – Mars, Neptune, Mercury, Jupiter, Pluto, Moon Void-of-Course. This Sunday is Christmas Eve and what an appropriate time to have the Pisces Moon conjunct Neptune, the Moon trine Mars and the Moon trine Jupiter with both Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio, the Moon sextile Pluto and the Moon square Mercury. The Moon goes Void-of-Course late in the day for over twenty-one and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Pisces and before the Moon enters Aries late on Monday. Not only can we have our holiday preparations all in order. This day also allows for a depth of being. If we would take moments to be in ourselves and think about life and our life journey, then we could count the many blessings in our lives and realize how truly fortunate we are. The world may seem crazy-making at times, people acting out for whatever reason or no reason at all, but we have much to be grateful for. Although Christmas is a Christian holiday, a day that celebrates the birth of Jesus who would be the Christ, this day also celebrates the birth of light in the Christian Jesus and also the birth of light that comes in the northern latitudes with the winter solstice. Let’s use this Christmas light to celebrate our own light and to affirm the birthing of greater light in our lives so that eventually we truly become en-lightened.
