December 11th – 17th, 2017

The astrology for this week of December 11th through the 17th is geared towards holiday celebrations and get-away plans.

There is something about this time of year when we have the opportunity to step away from our normal, mundane activities. School children and their parents are looking towards the holidays vacation. There are holiday events that shift our focus with an emphasis on the light-hearted and en-lightened with holiday lights sparkling in the crisp December nights. Even amidst the frenzy of gift buying and holiday shopping, there is a certain mystical, spiritual quality that instills the general atmosphere.

With the Winter Solstice a week away, we all are subconsciously, or consciously, awaiting the birth of light that the Winter Solstice represents in the northern latitudes at the darkest day of the year with the increase of daylight from that day forward to the Summer Solstice. This emphasis on light is represented in Christian tradition with Christmas celebrating the birth of Jesus and in Judaism with Hanukkah, the festival of lights, which begins this week on Tuesday sundown.

This week can be a pleasant week, a time when we reach out to family and friends, some of whom we might not be in contact except for this one time of the year. Early in the week our concentration may be more on that special someone, or those special people, in our lives than our own consideration of self.

The mid-part of this week may have us turning inward, taking those moments to reflect on where we have been and where we are going, with conscious decisions as to what to bring to completion before the end of the year and what we choose to leave behind as we enter the new year.

The end of the week and weekend can be an expansive time, moments when we explore new facets of our self. Some people might choose to get away and travel to distant realms. After moments of soul-searching mid-week, we may use the weekend to explore new facets of our being and spread our wings.

Monday, December 11th – The Art of Balance. Monday begins the week with the Moon moving into Libra. The Moon makes no aspects to the planets today. Despite the flurry of activity that this time of year engenders, this Monday starts the week with us looking to effectively juggle what we need to do, all the while that we are more interested in how things impact other people rather than the narrow considerations of what works for our personal self. Today can be a pleasant day, a time when we look to make contact with those special people in our lives. We are not looking to be hurried or harried on this Monday. Rather we would prefer to maintain balance, to find equilibrium amidst what often appears to be turbulent and crazy-making times. Just as this time of year allows for moments of quiet, this Monday may have us starting off slow, considering what is truly important for us to accomplish and taking time to stop and smell the roses.

Tuesday, December 12th – Tethered or Untethered – Venus, Sun, Mercury, Lunar T-Square, Pluto, Uranus. While Monday may have been rather placid with pleasant interactions with other people, Tuesday seems to ramp up the energy with push – pulls going on for us. On the one hand, the Libra Moon today sextiles three of the four Sagittarius-transiting planets with the Moon sextile Venus, the Sun and Mercury. And the Sun conjuncts Mercury. On the other hand, the Libra Moon triggers a Cardinal Sign T-Square with the Moon square Pluto and the Moon opposed Uranus. This is one of those days when if we could fly away, we probably would choose to do so. But like a helium balloon tied to someone’s wrist, we might also feel as though we are being held down with us held down by our responsibilities and other people’s needs. This Tuesday can feel like one of those days when our wings are being clipped. With the Cardinal Signs accentuated and the Mutable Sagittarius amplified, we may be more in an initiating sentiment with shifts and changes adapting to the needs of the moment rather than any form of maintenance or follow through. We do have to be wary of trying to rush the river, getting things done just to say that we’ve dealt with them when in fact we have merely superficially attended them and possibly glossed over important details. It would be wise for us to consider whether we want to actually deal with situations or put them off for another day when we might be more focused. There is a liability of doing a whipsaw today when we might far prefer to get out of town. Some of the whipsaw might also relate for some people to the beginning of Hanukkah at sundown.

Wednesday, December 13th – Getting Real – Saturn, Mars. Wednesday has the Libra Moon sextile Saturn before the Moon moves into Scorpio where today the Moon conjuncts Mars. If yesterday had us running and jumping, Wednesday allows us a more solid and focused disposition. If we are planning to get out of Dodge whether over these holidays or for future travel, we can be a great deal more practical and attentive to our itinerary and our plans. As the day progresses, we could be considering what to be rid of and where to place our concentration. We may feel more determined and ready to do whatever needs to be done. We might not leave a situation until we feel that it’s been completely resolved. Once we place our attention, it might be hard for us to let go until totally dealt with. This is a good day for us to clean up and clear out matters that we don’t want to bring into the new year and would prefer to be done with before we fully engage the holiday celebrations. Let’s have a shredder and trash bin at the ready today, for we are in gear for ‘out with the old’ in order to make room for the new in the coming year.

Thursday, December 14th – Only the Best – Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto, Moon Void-of-Course. Thursday continues with the Scorpio Moon with the Moon today trine Neptune, the Moon conjunct Jupiter and the Moon sextile Pluto. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for twenty-three and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Scorpio and before the Moon enters Sagittarius late on Friday. Thursday can be a productive day, a day when we can accomplish a great deal. We are likely to feel optimistic and confident in our abilities, and we have the ability to draw upon our intuitive sense with a best practices application. This is a day not to be lost, since things can move smoothly and quickly. Not only can we draw upon our foresight, we could also prioritize our time and our energy to be highly effective and accomplished. If we are going shopping, we can get the most ‘bang for our buck’ today. We might feel as though we have a keen sense about things, can value items and readily get what we want. We may not feel the need to get over anyone, for our upbeat and in charge attitude could prove contagious. People may be more than willing to accede to our wishes.

Friday, December 15th – Anybody Home – Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury, Venus. The Scorpio Moon is Void-of-Course for much of this Friday with the Moon making no connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Scorpio and before the Moon enters Sagittarius late in the day. The Sagittarius Moon makes no connections to the planets today. The one aspect on this Friday is the Mercury Venus conjunction. Friday is a day for social occasions. We might choose to get together with friends or co-workers in celebration of the holidays. Parties might have people being a little standoffish. One of the impacts of Jupiter’s transit of Scorpio has been the revelations / disclosures of sexual improprieties and the avalanche of #metoo. Figuring out the new accepted sense of social decorum can make people skittish about how to engage other people, friends and co-workers. Upbeat conversations and a joie de vivre sense may stir the appreciation we have for our social circle.

Saturday, December 16th – Gotta Be Free, Gotta Be Me – Neptune, Sun, Uranus. Saturday has the Sagittarius Moon square Neptune, and the Sun trine Uranus. Every journey begins with a first step, but it’s helpful to have direction, itinerary and planned destination in mind. Even if we don’t land where we initially intended, it’s far better to have intention in mind before heading out the door. Otherwise, the liability can be to a start and stop scenario or a sense of moving in one direction then shifting to another direction with the greatest liability to running around in circles, exhausting ourselves and getting nowhere. Saturday has the Sagittarius Moon square Neptune and the Sagittarius Sun trine Uranus. We might prefer to be spontaneous rather than planned on this Saturday. We may be impulsive instead of well considered today. If we can accept the need to do our own thing even without realizing what that ‘thing’ might be, then we should have no regrets caroming from one thing to another today. What’s important for us to remember is that in the paradigm shift life happens, with our choice not being in control of situations but rather enjoying the ride with the universe being the engineer and conductor. This is a day for us to explore, investigate and appreciate new aspects of ourselves. Expectations need to go by the wayside today for the magic, mystery and miracles in our journey are when we are open to the unexpected and unanticipated. This Saturday is a day when we gotta be free, gotta be me. Let’s enjoy the shifts, twists and turns of this new paradigm in doing life.

Sunday, December 17th – Good Friends With a New Spin – Mercury, Venus, Uranus. Saturday and Sunday are highlight by Sagittarius and Uranus. Yesterday we had the Sun trine Uranus. Today, the Sagittarius Moon trines Uranus and the Moon conjuncts Mercury and Venus. We are on the dark side of the Moon prior to the Sagittarius New Moon early tomorrow morning. This Sunday is a good day to connect with people far and wide, and especially those people that provide a different perspective from our usual viewpoint. We can learn a great deal about options and alternatives today, some of which we might want to test out for ourselves. We are all going through significant changes, which are all part of the turmoil and turbulence of these times. The anxiety and fearfulness that many people are experiencing and evidencing in their behavior are only a reflection of an unwillingness to let go and engage the new parameters of the social backdrop, the new ways of doing life and the new characteristics of our self. Whether in our travels or our social interactions, Saturday and Sunday provide the opportunity of discovery, discovery of new characteristics of self and realizations that life can be far different, possibly even more pleasant, than the accepted conventions of our past. Like a scavenger hunt, we might be provided clues along the way that assist us in making our own personal transformation, shed our old skin and take on a new persona more relevant to our being than to our conditioning. Let’s all promise to explore on this weekend.
