The astrology this week of January 2nd – 8th illustrates the changes of this new year and this new nine-year cycle. 2017 is a year of new beginnings. Similar to coming onto a boat after being on land for a while, it may take us some time to get our sea legs and fully understand the new parameters and the opportunities of our circumstances.
The week begins with a holiday in the US as part of the long New Year’s holiday weekend. We may be slow starting as we begin the week, more involved with our thoughts of possibilities rather then being highly active.
This week is also the last week of the Mercury retrograde, so it would be wise for us to take things slowly and recognize that the time is better served to evaluating and re-evaluating rather than implementing our plans.
The mid-week period can have us highly emotional. We might feel that our intuitive sense is highly attuned, but the attunement may be more in synch with what we want rather than the true reality of the situation. Due diligence is called for, but we might prefer to see the myriad of possibilities as not only possible but as highly probable. Let’s be careful to avoid irrational exuberance and jumping at things without fully dissecting them.
The weekend could be spent in a personal makeover or shopping sprees. We may want to bolster our image, enhance our appearance all under the justification of new beginnings needing a spruced-up presentation.
Sunday has Mercury turning direct, ending its three-week retrograde cycle. For some people, this weekend may close out a two-week holiday vacation and might find a number of people returning to their homes. With Mercury’s influence, we have to be wary of travel problems, traffic headaches and convoluted situations that can cause delays or detours. Adding on time and having contingency plans at the ready might forego some of the frustrations with the Mercury turn.
Monday, January 2nd – Looking for a Sign – Venus, Mercury, Neptune. Monday begins the first full week of January and the first full week of 2017 with the Aquarius Moon conjunct Venus. The Moon then moves into Pisces where today the Moon sextiles Mercury and the Moon conjuncts Neptune. We may be champing at the bit to get on with things, but today might be better served in listening to our inner voice. Our emotions could be heightened, so it would be important for us to keep a rein on our moods. For some people, this is still a holiday day. Taking time to reflect, contemplate and plan would go a long way further than jumping into anything today. Interactions with other people can make us aware as to how we can fine tune our goals and our intentions. No rushing ahead today, but rather enjoying the spiritual and sensitivity that is part of our nature, but often not fully utilized.
Tuesday, January 3rd – Two Step – Mars, Sun, Pluto, Saturn, Mercury, Venus, Venus Pisces. Tuesday continues with the Pisces Moon with the Moon today conjunct Mars, the Moon sextile both the Sun and Pluto in Capricorn and the Moon square Saturn. Venus exits Aquarius to enter Pisces with Mercury sextile Venus. Venus moving into Pisces triggers a Stellium of three planets in the Mutable Water Sign. We may want to get on with things, but we could also discover certain restrictions or limitations. While we might be willing to go forward on a wing and a prayer, it would be wise to realize that some issues could hold us back. Our compassion may be engaged, and we might assist someone in lifting their burden. It’s fine to assist someone in lifting their burden, inappropriate for us to carry it for them. We could take two steps forward, but might also have to take one step back. Let’s keep in mind that Mercury is retrograde, so whatever we set into place may need to be reworked or redone.
Wednesday, January 4th – Mixed Up – Mercury, Mercury Sagittarius. Wednesday has Mercury retrograding back into Sagittarius, a Sign of Detriment for Mercury where Mercury is not too comfortable. As Mercury goes back into Sagittarius, the Pisces Moon squares Mercury. The Moon then exits Pisces to enter Aries. This is a day when confusion could reign. Confidence and optimism can get the better of us, and we might make certain decisions based upon our desires rather than fully considering the parameters. We may choose to leap before we look. Let’s not gloss over important factors in any decision we choose to make. With a thrust of energy, we can feel as though we’re able to take on the world, that we’re invincible and that we can meet any challenge that comes our way. A little humility may be in order but possibly lacking in our decision-making process.
Thursday, January 5th – Me Sisyphus – Sun, Pluto, Uranus. The Aries Moon on this Thursday squares both the Sun and Pluto and the Moon conjuncts Uranus. We might be determined to do what we want, the way we want to do it. The sense of control and mastery over our lives might be important for us, but we could also come up square against standards and procedures. Even if we are blocked in our forward movement, arrogance could set in and we might continue in the same trajectory no matter the obstacles in our way. Certainly, we are at the start of a new year with all the promise of possibilities and options that might not have been realized last year. Let’s just appreciate that some things take longer than we like and other things might just not be the right direction no matter how enticing they may seem to be. Mercury is still retrograde until Sunday and often when we initiate projects under Mercury retrograde they often come to naught.
Friday, January 6th – Step by Step – Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Venus. Friday begins with the Aries Moon and the Moon today opposed Jupiter and the Moon trine both Saturn and Mercury. Later in the day, the Moon moves into Taurus where today the Moon sextiles Venus. We might find ourselves having a bit of a tug-of-war with someone today. Someone might either rain on our parade or suggest that we work out our concepts in a practical, reasonable manner before setting them into motion. The latter situation would allow us to focus on devising a best practices strategy, whereby we are willing to take things step-by-step and not just jump in even if only to show the nay-sayer that we can do it through our intention if not through a detailed itinerary. Late in the day would be a good time to get together with friends or a special someone. We may be looking our best, feel as though we have lined our ducks up in a row and confident about our future goals.
Saturday, January 7th – Connecting with our Internal Strength – Neptune, Mars, Pluto, Sun, Moon Void-of-Course. Saturday’s Taurus Moon sextiles Neptune and Mars both in Pisces and the Moon trines Pluto and the Sun both in Capricorn. The Sun conjuncts Pluto. Late in the day, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for nineteen and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Taurus and before the Moon enters Gemini late in the day. This can be a highly productive day. By drawing upon our intuition and taking a practical approach, we can virtually move mountains. We are certainly connected with any transformation that has gone on within us. In acknowledgment of our changes and transformation, we might consider a personal makeover, decide to buy a new wardrobe and see how we can project ourselves in the best light. This day and the surrounding days could see someone significant in the world step off the stage.
Sunday, January 8th – As the Worm Turns – Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury direct. Sunday continues with the Taurus Moon Void-of-Course with the Moon making no connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Taurus. Late in the day, the Moon moves into Gemini. While there may not be a great deal of energy on this Sunday, the most significant energy configuration today is Mercury ending its three-week retrograde cycle and Mercury turning direct. We shall still be in the ‘shadow’ of the Mercury retrograde until January 27th when Mercury returns to its placement where it first turned retrograde back on December 19th. Whenever Mercury is turning direction, whether from direct to retrograde or retrograde to direct motion, things can be especially convoluted. Let’s give ourselves extra time if we are trying to go anywhere today, and let’s be clear about the information we are giving or receiving from someone. The miscommunications, misunderstandings and various traffic difficulties could be ratcheted up. With Mercury turning direct, we can also start to clear up any of the issues that might have arisen during the Mercury retrograde. If we have new year’s resolutions to initiate, from tomorrow the 9th through Wednesday the 11th and prior to the Cancer Full Moon on the 12th would be more propitious for our endeavors. Today, we just need to add on extra time, be cautious in our movements and recognize that not every one is thinking straight, and be certain that we are clear about our own intentions and the communication of our ideas.
