December 26th, 2016 – January 1st, 2017

The astrology for this last week of 2016, the week of December 26th through January 1st, 2017, asks us to keep our wits about us and to be astute as to what is going on.

Coming off the Christmas holiday weekend and heading into the New Year’s holiday celebration, we may find ourselves in a bit of a daze wanting to do anything other than routine matters. Some people might be on holiday, stepping off the track and enjoying themselves. But the coming to and fro could force us to be vigilant and adaptable thanks to the liable confusion of the Mercury retrograde and more people being out and about.

The week begins with us seeking to take a different trajectory, explore new realms and participate in someone’s suggested event. We are still in holiday mode and can be in the mix of holiday crowds.

If we would take the time to tie up the loose ends of this closing year and ready ourselves for the prospects of the new year, we could devise a highly intuitive and expeditious means to engage the new year. Planning might be more successful than implementation right now.

The New Moon mid-week influences the following fortnight, and much of our focus can be on our goals, ambitions and involvement in the world. We may have to close doors before opening new ones, and it might be wise to fully launch our new intentions after the Mercury retrograde turns direct on the 8th of January and before the Full Moon on the 12th.

This is a week for us to line our ducks up in a row but without feeling the need to rush forward.

This week has us closing out not only this year. We are also closing out a nine-year cycle. 2017 is not only a new year but also the beginning of a new nine-year cycle. This week is best served in doing an inventory taking and figuring out what baggage we can leave behind and our considering what new terrain we wish to involve ourselves in the next nine years.

The weekend has us in holiday spirit and spirits. No rushing as we enter the new year, for we could be slightly confused, dazed and wondering where to go first. If we rush forward, we might wind up like a dog chasing its tail and going around in circles.

Monday, December 26th – Anywhere But Here – Mars, Neptune, Jupiter, Uranus, Mercury. The Sagittarius Moon begins the week with the Moon square both Mars and Neptune in Pisces. We may be champing at the bit, wanting to get on our horse, in our car or our truck and hit the open road. The desire for doing something other than the ordinary can be strong today. Where a problem might arise is just not knowing where to go and winding up pacing the floor, procrastinating while we consider the myriad of possibilities but getting nowhere. It may take someone to extricate us from square one, and we have that opportunity thanks to the Jupiter opposed Uranus today. Someone could have a grand idea, at least a grand idea to them. We might feel as though their idea doesn’t totally mesh with our sense of adventure but it might just get us moving in a particular direction and that would be advantageous over just going in circles. Mercury sextiles Neptune today and this is a good day to trust our intuition. We can come up with some spot on ways to realize our goals. Our power of persuasion could prove impenetrable, as we know just the right tone and the right words to express. We might not be interested in getting overly focused on our projects today, for we may prefer to take the day as a lark and just explore the far reaches of the universe, whether literally or figuratively, even if we wind up in la-la-land.

Tuesday, December 27th – Come Together – Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Mars. Yesterday might have had us all over the place, but it could have also proven to be a head cleansing day. Tuesday allows us to be more focused with a burst of a second wind with greater energy. The Sagittarius Moon trines Uranus, the Moon sextiles Jupiter, the Moon conjuncts Saturn and the Moon sextiles Venus. Late in the day, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for almost thirteen and a half hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Sagittarius and before the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow. The Sun sextiles Mars today. We can be feeling fairly upbeat today, even if we have a nagging concern of the need to deal with outstanding matters. We are interested in streamlining our operations, expanding our interests and getting old issues out of the way. Someone could prove a strong support and advocate for some of our new plans. We seem to have a presence, a charisma and mystique about us today. This enticing characteristic of ours can be appealing to some, but someone who has known us for a while might feel uncomfortable about this new aura of ours. Today is not a day to step on toes or offend anyone, but it is also not a day to short circuit our plans to tack into new directions. The world is our oyster and during this holiday season all things seem possible. Let’s embrace the world of possibilities with the appreciation that everything works out in its own time and in its own way.

Wednesday, December 28th – Reflecting, Contemplating, Planning – Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury, Sun, Mars. The Sagittarius Moon continues to be Void-of-Course during the morning hours as the Moon finishes its transit of Sagittarius without making any further connections to the planets before the Moon enters Capricorn where today the Capricorn Moon conjuncts Mercury. This Wednesday is on the dark side of the Moon prior to tomorrow’s Capricorn New Moon. Today has a great deal of Mercury energy. Not only does the Moon conjunct Mercury. The Sun conjuncts Mercury and Mercury sextiles Mars. Since initiations are best done with a waxing Moon, from New Moon to Full Moon, this day would better serve us in tying up loose ends, bringing closure to matters that we do not want to bring into the new year, and reflecting on what projects we want to launch in our new year. We can be very astute today but also slightly too serious. We might fall back into an old mindset of assuming that we are in total control of our life’s circumstances. Such a belief should have been, could have been, repudiated repeatedly by the evidence that we are co-creators with the serendipity of universe unfolding and not the sole arbiters of our journey developing. This is a good day for us to consider where we have been and where we wish to go, but in any planning let’s use a pencil with a big eraser and with a certain appreciation that we do not truly want to re-create our past.

Thursday, December 29th – Sense of Urgency – Mars, Capricorn New Moon, Sun, Neptune, Pluto, Uranus direct. The Capricorn New Moon has the Moon conjunct the Sun, the Moon sextile Mars, the Moon sextile Neptune and the Moon conjunct Pluto. Uranus ends its five-month retrograde cycle to turn direct. We may have a sense of urgency to start something new, something that allows us greater autonomy and also speaks to our adventurous side. We may feel that we have done our due diligence, dealt with all contingencies and are ready to take the plunge into new territories. While this impetus to get on with things can be compelling, it would be wise for us to pull in the reins of our enthusiasm with the realization that Mercury is still retrograde and what we see might not be what we get. If we can take our time to evaluate and re-evaluate our intentions, then we might avoid possible slip-ups based upon misinformation, misunderstandings or not having full information. This is a good day for giving thought to what we want to initiate as we come into the second week of January, after Mercury has turned direct. Even if we try to push things forward, certain pieces might not be available to us. People are still in holiday mode, some people out of town and unavailable, and full disclosure may not have taken place as of yet. We may have a sense of urgency to get on with it but remember that we are at the end of not only a year but also the end of a nine-year cycle. Waiting until that second week of January to initiate new projects allows us to draw upon a clearer Mercury and also the new beginnings of not only a new year but also a new nine-year cycle.

Friday, December 30th – Scattered by Hurrying Up – Lunar T-Square, Uranus, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Neptune. Late Thursday, early Friday has the Capricorn Moon triggering a Cardinal Sign T-Square with the Moon square Uranus in Aries and the Moon square Jupiter in Libra. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for over seventeen hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Capricorn and before the Moon enters Aquarius late in the day. The Sun sextiles Neptune. We are coming to another long holiday weekend with New Year’s fast approaching. We could be all over the place on this Friday, trying to do our own thing, start up new interests, all the while that we are also attentive to someone else’s presence and needs. We could be running in place today when in fact it would be wise for us to take some quiet time to figure out what we really want to do in the days ahead. The Sun sextiles Neptune and some quiet time can reveal some of our true intent, a sense of what would give our lives greater purpose. Too often we get caught up in the intensity of the moment, the hurly-burly of daily events, that we don’t take the time to truly consider what we are doing, where we are going and why we are doing what we are doing. The end of a year often calls us to make resolutions and this day may be no different. We don’t need total clarity regarding what we want to do, only an impression of who we are and what would really serve us well in the future.

Saturday, December 31st – Far Horizons. The Aquarius Moon on this last day of 2016 makes no aspects. There is not a great deal of energy today. We might be more focused on the merry-making of New Year’s celebrations and our gathering with friends and loved ones to celebrate a New Year and new beginnings. Many of us may look forward to the closure of 2016, for we might feel as though this year has been one bonker year with the hope and the promise of a new start in 2017. Giving thought to where we want to go in our future can be a large part of our mental meanderings today. It would be wise for us to not only consider where we want to go but more importantly what we want to leave behind and not bring into the new year. Much of our baggage of the past would only weigh us down, so it would be wise to use this day to free ourselves up. As the English writer G.K. Chesterton would remind us: “Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly.”

Sunday, January 1st – Happy New Year, Foggy One – Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Neptune. This New Year of 2017, a new nine-year cycle, can start off with a pop and a bang. We may be ever so happy to leave this past year behind with the hope and promise of this new year being far better than the past year has been. We may be champing at the bit to get on with things. The Aquarius Moon today sextiles Uranus, the Moon trines Jupiter and the Moon sextiles Saturn. We might feel as though we have done our planning, laid down the basics of our intentions and are ready to advance our new trajectories. Such an attitude can be reinforced by the encouragement of someone close to us. Whatever we do today, it would be wise for us to know our direction, our itinerary and our intended destination. With Mars conjunct Neptune we could be off and running before we figure which way to go or what to do. Some people might be nursing a hangover with too much partying to celebrate the new year. Let’s be careful today, for our actions might not be well-considered with a liability to moving too far too fast. Accidents are liable and especially water problems whether we have issues with boating, plumbing problems, leaks or heavy precipitation. Let’s slide easily into the new year rather than coming in banging and crashing.
