February 8th – 14th, 2016

Happy New Year! This week begins with the Aquarius New Moon and the beginning of the Chinese New Year, this Chinese New Year being the Red Fire Monkey.

We may have the calendar new year of January 1st, but we also have the Chinese New Year that begins on the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice, and we have the astrological new year at the Vernal Equinox when the Sun ends its zodiac cycle and enters a new annual cycle as the Sun moves into Aries.

So, again I write, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Aquarius New Moon on this Monday is the beginning of the Chinese New Year of the Red Fire Monkey. The auspices for this year based upon Chinese astrology are for a fast-paced, energetic year of risk-taking and grand adventures. There will be nothing static about the status quo, for this year promises to be a dynamic time. Upheavals could occur and the dynamics of the earth can be more evident with earthquake and volcanic activity and intense storm systems that may wreak havoc with the human population. This is a year when well-considered decisions and decisive actions can reap massive benefits. We just have to maintain flexibility and adaptability to shifting conditions and be ever aware, mindful and cognizant of changing circumstance.

You might ask: So what else is new?

In deed, these recent times have been volatile swings that have demanded awareness and mindfulness during what seem to be most chaotic episodes. But I would remind us of the wise and true saying that ‘we never get more than we can handle’.

This week can be a fun week, as long as we do not fall prey to the winter doldrums. This past Sunday in the US was Super Bowl Sunday marking the end of the football season. We are also in the mid-winter phase and many of us may be champing at the bit wanting Spring to come forward.

This week can have us feeling that we have one foot in the past, our other foot in the future of our intended plans. We might want to get on with things and we might set our sights on how we can expand our involvements.

The week begins and the week ends with us thinking more about our prospects and possibilities than our responsibilities and commitments.

Our mind can be cascading with all sorts of ideas as to what we can engage. We may not put much meat on the bones, for we are more interested in the concepts and the abstracts rather than the details or the practical application of our plans.

The mid-week period could have us lolling about in our mental meanderings with us feeling highly emotional and rather moody but largely in an upbeat, even inspired, disposition.

The latter part of the week can have us racing out of the starting gate, looking to initiate and launch some of our future goals. We may be impetuous rushing forward without clearly looking ahead. Movement may be the essential component, even if our movement winds up with us going around in circles. No worries about the circling, we could be enjoying the adrenaline rush we might be feeling.

The weekend allows us to do a major inventory taking, even a winter cleaning. We may want to be rid of certain matters that hold little relevance to us. Instead, we may be looking at how we can put things together, even add some ingredients, in order for us to lay down the foundation stones of new projects and new activities that are more resonant with where we are going rather than where we have been.

The weekend closes out with us highly functional, highly effective and enjoying a grand celebration with the one we love. It’s Valentine’s Day on Sunday and no need for a massacre when we can present ourselves in the very best light, although possibly at considerable expense.

Monday, February 8th – Reverence for the Old, Appreciation for the New – Saturn, Uranus, Mars, Aquarius New Moon, Chinese New Year, Sun, Moon Void-of-Course. Monday begins the week with the Aquarius Moon, which today has the Moon sextile Saturn in Sagittarius, the Moon sextile Uranus in Aries and the Moon square Mars in Scorpio. Much of the energy today is in the early morning hours and is capped off with [drum roll please!] the beginning of the Chinese New Year with the Aquarius New Moon as the Moon conjuncts the Sun. This Chinese New Year is the year of the Red Fire Monkey. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for almost eighteen hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Aquarius and before the Moon enters Pisces early on Tuesday. This day allows us to draw upon our past experience and expertise and consider new pathways to forge in the days ahead. A sense of balance between old and new is essential in the productive advance of our interests. This Monday is a day of celebration and not only in China. For this Monday with the Aquarius New Moon in the Gemini decanate, the second decanate of Aquarius, allows us to consider our future plans and our future goals. No option can be discounted, even those alternatives that seem impossible. We are in a new paradigm, a time when things can occur spontaneously, unexpectedly, and conditions can shift dramatically in a nanosecond. This is a good day for us to look to the far horizon with the recognition that the specificities of the landscape may be lost to a more impressionistic overtone. We can consider our intentions with the realization that the means to achieve our plans may evolve as we go along.

Tuesday, February 9th – Indulgences and then Some – Neptune. This Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, also known as Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras. The Pisces Moon conjuncts Neptune today and what better day could there be to indulge ourselves and gorge on all sorts of delectable treats? A sense of taking it to the max in regard to the carnival-like atmosphere allows us excess before we move into the season of Lent. Although much of the spiritual or Christian theology’s connotations have been lost to the fun-loving aspects of sensual pleasures, this day astrologically would allow us to contemplate where we are in our spiritual journey, consider what wrongs we might have committed that we wish to right, and the areas of spiritual growth we choose to fortify in our days and years ahead. With the strong Piscean influence today we could either focus on self-contemplation and the true meanings of our lives or we could seek forms of escapism in various indulgences that allow us to traipse through a fantasy world. Our choice, always our choice. Live in the fantasy world of illusion and delusion or cut through the veil of Maya to focus on the essence of our being and soul growth through this life journey.

Wednesday, February 10th – Swing High, Swing Low – Pluto, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Lunar T-Square, Saturn, Jupiter. This Wednesday may be the ‘hump day’ of our workweek, but this day could be fast-paced with wild swings in our moods and our emotions. The Pisces Moon today trines Mars and sextiles the three Capricorn-transiting planets of Pluto, Venus and Mercury. The Moon also triggers a Mutable Sign T-Square as the Moon squares Saturn and the Moon opposes Jupiter. Venus trines Jupiter. Today is a day for us to bite the bullet and do what needs to get done. This Wednesday can be a highly productive day as long as don’t waste our energy resenting our tasks at hand, whining about our responsibilities and grousing about our daily tasks. If we go down that road, we could be stepping on a carousel of emotional ups and downs. Let’s keep in mind that often the appearance masks the true reality of a situation. And fear in its acronym is ‘false evidence appearing real’. Sometimes we need the dust to settle in order to figure out what is really going on. If we jump too fast today, we could wind up in a muddle. Someone might provide an objective perspective to give us a little great clarity, help us to straighten up and fly right. Once on the proper course today, we could virtually move mountains, get a great deal done and actually enjoy the process and be proud of ourselves.

Thursday, February 11th – Hurry Up and Wait. In the entertainment industry, there is a phrase often used: ‘hurry up and wait’. We might feel that way on this Thursday. The Moon enters Aries but makes no connections to the planets today. Yesterday might have been a highly active day. Either we could have accomplished a lot or we might have wound up going round in circles with wild mood swings of highs and lows. However we dealt with yesterday, we might have exhausted ourselves. This Thursday can have us ready to go but without enough mojo to really get going. Thursday is a good day for initiations but by means of baby steps. No giant leaps today, for we could be champing at the bit, wanting to get on with it and willing to leap before we look. Baby steps. Even if we have a full schedule planned out today, we might find that various pieces aren’t quite fitting together, that pieces just are not connecting. This is a day for a little bit of this, a little bit of that — baby steps. Let’s keep in mind that the energy of these times is volatile, times of intense energy and dramatic changes, other times when things seem stalled or quiet, like the still of the night. Yesterday may have been highly active, so too for tomorrow. Let’s use this Thursday in taking those small steps, those baby steps, of initiation but without pushing forcefully ahead.

Friday, February 12th – Alternate Means – Saturn, Pluto, Uranus, Sun, Venus. Friday has the Aries Moon trine Saturn, the Moon conjunct Uranus, the Moon sextile the Sun and the Moon square Pluto and the Moon square Venus. This is a day when old and new can bang up against one another. We are all searching for new ways of being, new ways to express ourselves and new outlets through which we can exhibit our talents and engage our new interests. In seeking out different trajectories for ourselves, we can draw upon our experience, the expertise we have gained through our past, but we do not have to be limited or restricted by what we have done or who we have been. Today is a day when we can choose alternate involvements. Some people might prefer us to stay the way we have been, their definition of us based upon their past experience with us, but we are likely to be more interested in trying out new things and discovering new aspects of ourselves. This is a day when we might either have to walk on eggshells in exploring new areas of interest or to forge ahead taking machete in hand and willing to take the reproach or criticism of someone else. And then there is a third way, the middle path, where we engage our curiosity, consider other means and ways but without feeling the need to justify our action or triggering consternation in other people.

Saturday, February 13th – One Step at a Time – Mercury, Neptune, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury Aquarius. Saturday begins with the Aries Moon square Mercury. The Moon then moves into Taurus where later today the Moon sextiles Neptune. Mars sextiles Jupiter. Mercury exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius. This is a day for us to create space for new ventures by tying up loose ends, completing certain projects and ridding ourselves of the extraneous. A good clean up and clear out will relieve us of the outmoded and the unwanted. We may be very industrious today and might emulate the moral of the Aesop fable of The Tortoise and the Hare: ‘Slow and steady wins the race’. Saturday is not a day to go unprepared or act impetuously. On the contrary, having our ‘to do’ list and prioritizing the items in the best time management skills allow us to accomplish more than we could imagine. If we need to acquire tools necessary for certain new ventures, let’s not be shy about it but realize that the purchases may streamline our efforts and make us more effective with less expenditure of energy. We can be sharp and wise today, bringing matters to completion and preparing for new engagements.

Sunday, February 14th – On All Cylinders with Right Timing – Lunar Grand Trine, Pluto, Jupiter, Mars. Sunday is Valentine’s Day and we could make all the right moves today. We may not be flashy but we are certainly perceived as competent and stylish. The Taurus Moon triggers an Earth Grand Trine as the Moon trines Pluto in Capricorn and the Moon trines Jupiter in Virgo. The Moon also opposes Mars. Whether in our encounters with other people or in our involvement with our own projects on this Sunday, we seem to do just the right thing. Our taste may be impeccable today. Not only can we see the big picture that we wish to paint. We are also taking care of all details so that everything fits neatly in an appealing package. This is a day when we can win the favor of someone and largely due to the fact that the other person sees us as reliable, solid and well put together. We do have to be wary of stretching our resources and we may need to keep in mind that sometimes less is more.
