We may feel that it’s a brave new world as we go through this week. We are looking towards our future, even to the point of our negating the lessons of the past.
The week could prove slow starting. We may put our shoulder to the wheel, dealing with our responsibilities, tying up loose ends, all the while that unexpected circumstances might change the parameters in which we are operating.
Irrational exuberance would likely lead us down a bramble path of miscues and missteps. We might easily launch into activities without considering the ramifications or the consequences of our actions. A liability to leaping before we look could be strong as we start the week. Let’s avoid solely trusting our instincts without gauging the conditions. We live during times of radical shifts, dramatic changes, and we need to be fully aware and highly mindful. But we also need to avoid anxiety and panic.
Storm systems early this week could prove ferocious with extreme precipitation and deadly seas.
The mid-part of the week has the first of this year’s three Mercury retrogrades and this one could prove a doozey [like any Mercury retrograde isn’t?].
Not only might we see evidence of the downsides to technological advances, but we might also witness the revelation that there is something, or many things, rotten in the world.
The recent euphoria of equity markets, fueled by funny money of relentless government money printing and by abysmally low interest rates, could have the bloom come off the rose. The question as to whether the economic recovery is solid and growing or but a sleight of hand of smoke and mirrors could prove a moot point over the next three weeks.
As we move through this week, it might be wise to take some chips off the table or adopt a most conservative approach to our finances — our investments and our expenditures. The current assumption that things can go up and up without at some time going down and down could be disproven. Black swans may be swimming, muddying the waters of the economic states of nations and the world at large.
The latter part of the week allows us to get a grip, buck up and recognize that we have the ability to deal the hand we are dealt. Although progress might seem slow and we may have to engage the tai chi moves of working with the energies rather than trying to bend the energies to our will, we move our intentions forward by taking things slow and steady, all the while keeping our antennae up in case the winds of change blow.
The weekend allows us some pleasurable activities. We seem less susceptible to the vagaries of change and more accepting of the conditions in which we find ourselves. One of the beauties and one of the strengths of these times is that the extreme volatility of these times instills dramatic and radical changes suddenly and quickly. We just need to keep track of which way the wind blows and be willing to navigate according to the shifting currents. We have developed the skill set. And as the wise and true saying states: ‘we never get more than we can handle’.
Even if we get knocked about during the week, the weekend can find us picking ourselves up, dusting ourselves off and starting all over again.
Monday, January 19th – Avoiding the Leap into the Chasm – Uranus, Pluto, Moon Void-of-Course, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Neptune. Monday begins the week with the Uranus Pluto square engaged as the Capricorn Moon squares Uranus and the Moon conjuncts Pluto. We may wake up to some interesting but unsettling news. We might wonder which side of the bed to get up from, or even wonder whether we should get out of bed at all. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for over twenty-six hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Capricorn and before the Moon enters Aquarius tomorrow. We are also on the dark side of the Moon prior to tomorrow’s New Moon. We may have a great deal to accomplish today but without the necessary planning or strategy to effectively do so. Venus opposes Jupiter today and Mars conjuncts Neptune. Wanting what we want, even to the point of salving our emotional wounds, could have us being overly extravagant and excessive. The liability to serious miscues and stepping in ‘it’ today cannot be discounted. While there is not a great deal of energy to effectively get things done, at the same time we might encircle ourselves in a whirlwind of energy doing any thing, many things but without taking into account the conditions in which we find ourselves or the possible outcomes of our actions. If there are atmospheric fronts moving in, the storm systems could be extreme with intense precipitation and cyclonic wind speeds. This is a day for us to tone things down and not to jump to conclusions or leap into the chasm.
Tuesday, January 20th – New Daze Dawning – Sun Aquarius, Aquarius New Moon, Sun, Saturn. Tuesday has a major shift in energy, as the Sun exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius, the Moon exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius, the Aquarius New Moon as the Moon conjuncts the Sun, and the Moon sextiles Saturn. This is a day of new beginnings and time when we are looking to the future. This is also the last day before tomorrow’s start of the three-week Mercury retrograde cycle. We may be far more interested in our future than our present or our past. If we could wipe the slate clean, we would. And why can’t we? While this is a day for lofty ideas, conversations with friends on our plans, and determining a best practices approach to realize our goals, let’s not rush the river. With tomorrow’s Mercury retrograde taking hold over the next three weeks, various intentions and plans can go awry. We can explore and investigate new realms, but it would be wise for us to hold in abeyance our decision or our commitment until Mercury turns direct the second week of February. We could let our mind roam into all sorts of possibilities, bandy about with friends and loved ones the prospects, taking into account the good, the bad and accepting of unintended consequences. But let’s hold off on jumping into the deep end, especially in light of the fact that there can be some fairly significant changes coming down the pike over the next three weeks.
Wednesday, January 21st – The Realms of Possibilities – Uranus, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury retrograde. Wednesday could have us flying high. The Aquarius Moon sextiles Uranus, the Moon opposes Jupiter and the Moon conjuncts both Mercury and Venus. Mercury turns retrograde. We may be looking at life and our future with rose-colored glasses. We might feel that no matter whatever is going on around us, their impact on us is likely to be negligible. Our mind can be building castles in the air with us exuding an expansionary and exuberant air about us. We may have our head in the clouds, but our feet hardly touching the ground. While the feel good attitude is welcome and conducive to good things happening to us, we also need to recognize that with Mercury retrograde, Murphy’s Law is once more engaged — ‘whatever can go wrong, could go wrong.’ There can be travel headaches, traffic tie-ups and things taking longer than we like. If historical patterns hold true to form, we might also experience over the next three weeks extreme volatility in the equity markets with more down than up. This is also a time when insights can pierce the veil of presentation, a time when we can pull back the curtain on the wizard of oz screen and see the little man pulling the strings, see what is truly going on.
Thursday, January 22nd – No Martyrs, No Victims – Saturn, Neptune, Mars. Thursday is the 22nd, in numerology the number of the Master Builder, an energy when we can build solidly for the future. This 22nd has the Pisces Moon square Saturn and the Moon conjunct both Neptune and Mars. As the saying goes: ‘Either build upon rock or build upon sand.’ This Thursday could provide us a wakeup call that some of the structures we have built for ourselves may not be as solid as we would like. We might have built upon sand, which may have been okay while everything was less volatile and less frenetic. But now we might find that some of these sand-built edifices are washing away. This is a day when we could be incredibly moody. Outstanding matters might dog our heels and demand our attention. Foreign affairs could throw monkey wrenches in the spokes of the wheels. It is essential that we avoid the pity party and not feel sorry for ourselves. It is important that we keep in mind that in truth we never get more than we can handle. If we would raise our eyes to the horizon and beyond, this can be a highly spiritual day, a day when we can restore our faith and renew our belief that in truth everything works out in the end.
Friday, January 23rd – Effective Less Strenuous – Pluto, Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Saturn. As if caught in a pachinko machine earlier in the week, Friday offers us some relief. The Pisces Moon sextiles Pluto before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over twenty-six hours with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Pisces and before entering Aries tomorrow. The Sun sextiles Saturn. If we have put aside some of our scheduled events during the week or found that distractions kept us from doing what we needed to get done, this Friday allows us to deal in catch-up mode. The energy today is far less frenetic than earlier in the week and we can go slow and steady in taking care of our normal responsibilities. We might want to keep this day quiet and focus on things that we would like to complete and bring to closure. In reflection, we may do some intense inventory taking both in regard to our accumulations but more importantly about devising our plans to realize our long-term ambitions.
Saturday, January 24th – A Second Wind – Saturn, Sun. The Moon moves into Aries where today the Moon trines Saturn and the Moon sextiles the Sun. This is a great day to get together with friends, head out on the highway, and stretch beyond our usual limitations. Someone could prove an important sounding board, advocating our abilities and making us aware of new interests we could develop. Despite the Mercury retrograde, we are willing to take things step by step utilizing a systematic approach to investigating possible future involvements. We may be more resourceful today, less impetuous and open to varied options and alternatives.
Sunday, January 25th – Freeing Ourselves From the Same Old – Uranus, Pluto, Mercury, Jupiter. Sunday continues with the Aries Moon and today the Moon conjuncts Uranus, the Moon squares Pluto, the Moon sextiles Mercury and the Moon trines Jupiter. We may awaken with an urge to try something different, but our scheduled plans could get in the way. Let’s do what we have committed to do quickly and efficiently and not feel that our freedom of movement is tripped up by our obligations. These times ask us to develop a suspension bridge slat by slat to get from where we are to where we choose to go, all with the recognition that we often have to go back and deal with past commitments before we can move forward into our future and then cut the ties that bind. This is a day for just that exercise — for us to appreciate that new horizons await while attending to our usual tasks and then once done allowing ourselves to explore new terrain. All of us are in the process of transformation, of shapeshifting. And one of the beauties of these times is that things can change suddenly and dramatically all within a nanosecond of time. We do not have to do it all, but we do need to be open to receive, not be locked into the phantoms of our past and be in the right place at the right time.
