This week in the US is Thanksgiving week and one when despite our personal challenges and hardships it would be wise for us to express the attitude of gratitude.
In his 1989 hit song Billy Joel wrote:
“We didn’t start the fire,
It was always burning
Since the world’s been turning.”
How true his lyrics were and are. We are living in volatile times. Like the half glass of water, we can either view it as half empty or as half full. While anxiety and fear, greed and dissipation may be rampant, there is much for us to be grateful for.
Under the influence of this past weekend’s Sagittarius New Moon, we have the opportunity of fortifying our enthusiasm, our confidence and optimism that somehow we can create for ourselves brighter days through better ways.
The week begins with us focused on our responsibilities and the tasks at hand. The holidays are upon us and it is a quick sledding through the end of 2014 and into the new year of 2015. We are only six weeks away from a new year.
The more we can tie up the loose ends of this passing year, bring closure to outstanding matters; the less likely we shall trip ourselves up with unresolved issues and pressing demands needing to be completed before year’s end.
The early part of this week gives us the energy to deal with the specifics and particulars of our daily lives. We might feel that in doing so we are uncovering situations that we would prefer not to address, but it would be wise for us to go back over various affairs, consider the baggage of our past and wrap up those areas that we do not want to bring into our new year.
The mid-part of the week can have us engaging people from our past and some surprising new contacts. We are entering the holiday period, that time of year on an annual basis when we reconnect with people we might not have seen since the last holidays and also are introduced to new people entering our worlds.
The latter part of the week can have us considering our future, the options ahead of us. Hopefully, we can give a thought or two to the advantages that we have been given in our lives and express our gratitude and our thanks for all the bounties that have graced our living.
The weekend can be slightly confusing. We may be lost in our reveries, either taking the time or being forced to consider where we have been, what we have done and where we might be going. In reflection, we may see the extraordinary twists and turns that our journey through this life experience has taken, what Lennon and McCartney wrote as ”The Long and Winding Road”.
Monday, November 24th – Judicious Pursuits – Moon Void-of-Course, Neptune. Monday may be slow-starting thanks to the Void-of-Course Moon that began late on Sunday with the Moon going Void-of-Course for over thirteen hours as the Moon finishes its transit of Sagittarius without making any further connections to the planets and before the Moon enters Capricorn on this Monday. Late in the day, the Capricorn Moon sextiles Neptune. Monday may be a day when we are making our plans for get-aways or for holiday events. We might be somewhat AWOL as we begin this day, elsewhere other than where we should be. As the day progresses, we can play catch up with the intention to get as much out of the way early in the week in order for us to free up time for ourselves later this week and over the weekend. With this being Thanksgiving week in the US, some people may jump the gun, or may already have, by getting out of town for visits with family and friends. No matter when people plan to travel, this is a major travel week and people can be coming and going throughout the week. The holidays are upon us and we might feel pressed to get done what needs to be done, our normal tasks and daily obligations. If we are not on the bullet train out of town, today and tomorrow would be days to deal with our responsibilities and address outstanding matters that we would prefer to resolve before the end of the year.
Tuesday, November 25th – Rolling the Boulder Up the Mountain – Pluto, Uranus, Mercury, Saturn. Tuesday might have us feeling Sisyphus-like with all that we have to do. Not only do we have our usual responsibilities. Unexpected situations might arise that impinge upon our plans. Someone from the past could contact us and we may consider it a mixed blessing, adding an additional matter for us to deal with. The Capricorn Moon conjuncts Pluto and the Moon squares Uranus. Mercury conjuncts Saturn. For some people, holiday celebrations are often like Hallmark holidays, pictures and the envisioning far stronger and more pleasant than the actual occurrences. Although we might dread the interference that holidays place upon us, the more that we can be focused, concentrate on what needs to be done and emphasize the essential aspects of our scheduled plans, the less we have to dread the social occasions and get-togethers that are such a large part of holidays. Even if there are distractions today, we can clean up certain matters, get rid of outstanding issues and complete tasks. Let’s keep in mind that by dealing with our responsibilities expeditiously, we can give ourselves some free time for fun events and pleasurable activities later in the week.
Wednesday, November 26th – Stepping In, Stepping Out – Mars, Saturn, Mercury, Sun, Venus, Uranus, Neptune. Wednesday allows us to be highly resourceful in whatever we need to do. The Capricorn Moon conjuncts Mars, the Moon sextiles Saturn and the Moon sextiles Mercury. We can be highly effective today, cut to the chase and find ways to circumvent any problems. It might seem as though we have a sixth sense regarding what to do and how best to do it, and do it in the most economical manner possible. As the day progresses, we may put aside much of our daily tasks and focus instead on enjoying the company of other people. The Moon exits Capricorn to enter Aquarius where today the Moon sextiles the Sun and the Moon squares Neptune. Venus trines Uranus. In stepping out into social occasions, we might bump into some interesting folks. A sense of serendipity can be part of our connections during the evening hours. Either we could meet up with someone from afar or we might find ourselves traveling and connecting with a fascinating person. The contact is not an appointment in Samarra, but we may be mildly puzzled and enthralled by the serendipity of being in the right place at the right time for a most fascinating encounter. Surprises might not be fully revelatory at the beginning and could prove slightly confusing, but eventually all will be made clear.
Thursday, November 27th – Magic in the Moments – Uranus, Venus, Mercury Sagittarius. Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in the US, a time when we gather together to sup like drunken Vikings, eating too much, drinking too much. Enough is never enough, if we are doing Thanksgiving in the traditional manner of gorging ourselves. However, this Thanksgiving can be a day when we embrace both the attitude of gratitude and an appreciation of the magic in the moments. Thursday has the Aquarius Moon sextile Uranus and the Moon sextile Venus. Mercury exits Scorpio to enter Sagittarius thereby creating a Stellium in Sagittarius as Mercury joins both Venus and the Sun in the Mutable Fire Sign. There can be some fascinating surprises today if we would pull ourselves away from the dining table or get ourselves up from the couch where the tradition might be watching football games all day long. By lifting our eyes from our present surroundings we might witness some interesting mini-miracles. In deference to the US consumer-driven economy, retailers are no longer waiting for the traditional Black Friday for the holiday shopping onrush. To squeeze as much sales as possible out of the holiday shopper, some retailers will open on Thanksgiving morning with promised bargains. This Thursday holds the prospect of serendipitous happenings of being in the right place at the right time. The key to this day is neither to fall into the complacency of old patterns nor to be seduced into the shopping malls by holiday bargains. Being open to the unexpected and open to receive, we might experience some fascinating gift, which is why we call today the present.
Friday, November 28th – Not What Was Expected – Lunar T-Square, Jupiter, Saturn, Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury. The extremes of excess and self-abnegation can be at play today, thanks to the Lunar T-Square created by the Aquarius Moon opposed Jupiter and the Moon square Saturn. We could be nursing a hangover from excess or on the opposite extreme we could be feeling letdown by our holidays’ self-denial. We might be going all in on the holidays looking for fun times, indulgences and partying with friends and strangers. Or in a puritanical manner we may be dismissing the spirit of the holidays as a Pavlovian enticement of debauchery in a consumer-driven society. Either way, we may be doing the metronome rag, swinging from one attitude to the other and perhaps not enjoying the swing. While we have often been cautioned ‘moderation in all things’ and have been advised that the joy in life is finding balance, this Friday could have our lives out of balance. Some people may go on shopping safaris today, ratcheting up their credit card balance, all with the idea of live for today, pay sometime in a future tomorrow. Other people may be a little tight on their expenditures, sensing that they just do not have the resources to enjoy themselves. Either way, this Friday may have various ups and downs. As the day progresses, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for almost five hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Aquarius and before entering Pisces where today the Pisces Moon squares Mercury. After a day that could seem spinning out of our control, we might find the evening hours one when we just want to have fun. We might be exhausted from the whipsaw of the day, but the evening allows us to step away from our ruminations and just enjoy ourselves.
Saturday, November 29th – Ground Control to Major Tom – Neptune, Sun, Pluto, Venus. Saturday has the Pisces Moon conjunct Neptune, the Moon sextile Pluto and the Moon square both the Sun and Venus. It would be wise for us to get a grip on the day before we start the day. Planning our moves on this Saturday could avoid us going in circles, spinning our wheels. By focusing our intentions today, we can make a plan of what we want to do and how we should do it. Otherwise, confusion could be rampant, with us seeing all sorts of possibilities and being pulled by whatever catches our fancy. Let’s keep in mind that holiday time seems to turn up the volume and ratchet up the pace. As if in synchronized dancing, we are being asked to go ever faster, even if we are not fully aware of what direction to go in. And that could be today’s problem unless we get a handle on the day before we start out. If we would make a list of what we want to do on this Saturday, prioritize our intended activities and check it twice, then this can be a highly productive day. We just have to be certain to keep our emotions in check, for otherwise we could be incredibly moody, and maudlin sentimentality could get in our way either bringing us down or having up spend more than would be appropriate. We might not be able to do it all today, but with forethought we can do the most important projects for the day.
Sunday, November 30th – Focused Through the Distractions – Mars, Saturn, Mercury, Neptune. Sunday continues with the Pisces Moon and today the Moon sextiles Mars and the Moon trines Saturn. Later today, the Moon exits Pisces to enter Aries. Mercury squares Neptune. This is the last day of November and also the completion of the Moon’s transit through the Zodiac wheel, as the Moon finishes its transit of Pisces, last Sign of the Zodiac cycle, and before entering late today, early tomorrow the first Sign of the Zodiac, Aries. We may feel that we need to wrap up loose ends today. We can get a great deal done by concentrating on outstanding matters, resolving issues of the past and budgeting our finances for the holidays ahead. There can be various distractions, and we may find that there is more in the hopper than we might totally figure out. We could have pulls on us, and some of the pulls may be a sense of obligations — the shoulds and oughts of what to do. In concept, it is often easy to see how we can accomplish ever so much, virtually conquer the world. In reality, with the various bumps in the road, things often take longer than we imagine. Let’s keep our intended plans within a reasonable range and prioritize our activities. We might assume that we can do it all, but that might not be within the realm of our capabilities. The more we can concentrate on diligent planning, the intended destination and the itinerary along the way, all the while recognizing that unanticipated variables might intrude upon our projections and impede our way; the less upsets we are likely to encounter. And whatever upsets we do come across, we can handle by the tai chi moves of thoughtfully dealing with the energies without being overwhelmed by what is going on.
