This week could be reminiscent of the lyrics from Freddy ‘Boom Boom’ Cannon’s 1962 hit Palisades Park: “Up like a rocket ship , Down like a roller coaster, Back like a loop-the-loop, And around like a merry-go-round.”
Palisades Park was an amusement park located atop the New Jersey Palisades across the Hudson River from Manhattan and was open from 1898 until 1971, when it closed to make room for a high-rise apartment complex. If you drove out of the city along the West Side highway at night, you could see the amusement park lights brightening the night sky. It was quite a spectacle, and one that I often watched from the back seat of our family car after we had been in the city during the day and were driving back to Connecticut at night.
This week the night sky is lit up with the Aries Full Moon, a Lunar Eclipse mid-week, and days sprinkled with triggers to the Uranus Pluto square. This week can have us up, down and spun around.
This week is also the first full week of Mercury retrograde that began this past Saturday. The more we can add some time to our activities and the more we can engage due diligence to figure out what is really going on, the less likely we are to inflict some head banging on our selves.
The week starts off slowly but picks up speed as we progress, only to slow down before picking up speed yet again with a fairly quiet end to close out the week. It will be essential that we catch the rhythm in order to successfully navigate the waters. The temptation may be to throw ourselves into full throttle, but it would be wise that we recognize the rhythm to this week may turn out to be more staccato than legato.
Although we could feel ourselves going in circles at the very beginning of the week, we may seek to lunge forward into new activities and into anything that is a wide departure from our norm and routine.
We have to be wary as to how our actions impact other people. We could throw people off center by some of our decisions and even create impediments to our forward movement by someone standing in our way and blocking our advance due to their expectations that we act in accord with how we have been. It is often difficult for people to accept any radical changes in behavior in other people since it forces that person to recalibrate their definition of the other person and even forces them to consider whether they need to make changes too.
Relationships can prove a little dicey this week. This early October under the influence of Libra is often associated with relationship and our interactions with that special someone, or those special people, in our lives.
We might be a little too generous or indulgent this week. All our good intentions of adhering to a budget could fly out the window as we consider makeovers, purchases and the presumed needs for the changing weather conditions as we move further into the autumnal season.
The weekend can be filled with fun events as we enjoy autumnal fairs and harvest festivals. We may be all over the map, going from one fun event to the next to the next. The weekend can be a time for social get-togethers and recreational activities. We just need to be sure that everyone is on the same page in order to co-ordinate plans.
Monday, October 6th – Stepping In, Stepping Out – Mars, Saturn, Moon Void-of-Course. We may want to go full bore as we start this week. Our sleep state could be a little agitated as we fan through in our mind all the things we might want to do. Monday continues with the Moon in Pisces and the Moon today squares Mars and the Moon trines Saturn. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for fourteen and a half hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Pisces and before entering Aries on Tuesday. The caution of ‘haste makes waste’ could be no more true than today. We could start the week in a mad dash but our fast-out-the-door could wind up in a race to nowhere. We may have the greatest of intentions, plans to expand our interests, but we can be lacking in due diligence. We might not be fully cognizant of our itinerary or even our direction, only that we are ready to quickly move ahead. If we get caught up in a whirlwind of activity, we could find ourselves entangled in a morass and a mess. Fortunately, even if we do find ourselves in mazes of our own creation, we can sort things out, straighten things, and tie up loose ends as the day advances. The more we can bring outstanding matters to completion, the better it would be. Tomorrow has the Aries impulse of initiation, and it would be wise for us to be unhindered to take advantage of unexpected possibilities and new directions. While the liability today is to get caught up in a tangled web, let’s try to avoid getting ensnared and tripped up and focus more on bringing matters to closure rather than new beginnings.
Tuesday, October 7th – You or Me – Venus, Sun, Uranus. Tuesday has the Moon in Aries with the Moon today opposed Venus. The Sun opposes Uranus. This day has the question of balance between our own personal interests and those of someone else. Either we can be accommodating and appreciative of where the other person is coming from or we could engage in arm wrestling with someone and looking to pin them to the mat. Even if we try to be pleasant with someone, we might find it a most difficult task today. No one can be on the same page today, everyone wanting to be on his or her own individual page and expecting everyone to join them on their page. We might find that some of our new interests and developing projects rub people the wrong way. Perhaps we are being a little too adventuresome according to someone else’s perception. We might have to tone down our impulsive nature, take things step by step in order to avoid ruffling someone’s feathers. This is a day when diplomacy and charm are called for, although people may be a little belligerent, wanting their way and throwing a tantrum in order to win their way. Instead of the you or me attitude that this day could generate, let’s try to find some common ground with the recognition that each of us is looking to find alternatives to how we have been doing our lives and willing to consider various options. It’s a brave new world out there, so let’s try and make the most of the opportunities and the challenges.
Wednesday, October 8th – Over the Moon – Lunar T-Square, Pluto, Uranus, Aries Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse, Sun, Lunar Grand Trine, Mars, Jupiter, Kite, Moon Void-of-Course, Venus. In the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels the butler Arthur says to the returning con artist Freddy: “Welcome to hell.” This Wednesday may not be hell, but it can certainly be wild and wooly. We have a Lunar Eclipse, the Aries Full Moon with the Moon triggering the Uranus Pluto square with the Moon creating a Cardinal Sign T-Square with the Moon conjunct Uranus, the Moon square Pluto and the Moon opposed the Sun. There is a Kite pattern chart as the Aries Moon also triggers a Fire Grand Trine with the Moon trine Mars in Sagittarius and the Moon trine Jupiter in Leo with Mars and Jupiter both sextile to the Sun as the Kite tail. Although the morning hours can be a flurry of activity — the good, the bad, and the ugly — the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over twenty-one hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Aries and before entering Taurus tomorrow. Added to the mix today, Venus squares Pluto and Mars trines Jupiter. Wednesday can be one high-energy day, a day when the energy is off the charts in the morning hours only to die down later in the day and a day when we may try to cut the ties that bind only to find that we are more ensconced in situations than we had realized. We may want to chart our own course, move swiftly in directions that allow greater room for our creative self-expression, all the while that we are banging up against someone else’s expectations for us and being impeded by our usual tasks and obligations. This is a day for us to acknowledge the true reality of movement as indicated by the Jewish Tree of Life in the Kabbalah. Life tends to move in a zig-zag quality, like a metronome swinging from side to side, until finding the balance, the middle pillar in the Kabbalah or the middle path in Buddhism. If we can keep our eye on the ball today, even though we may be caroming between the highs and lows, between new inspirations and old responsibilities, we might find that we can easily walk the fine line between what we want to do and what is expected of us. This is a day when we might have to walk the tightrope similar to Nik Wallenda without losing our balance, all the while aware of the shifting gusty winds and our need to continually recalibrate as we move through the day. We are looking at broadening our reach into unfamiliar terrain, and we have to be mindful of our naysayers who warn us not to go too far out on the limb and want us to stay the same as they have always interpreted us to be.
Thursday, October 9th – Back on the Ground – Mercury, Neptune. Wednesday could have had us firing on all cylinders. We might have had moments of liftoff, other moments when we crashed and burned. No matter what occurred yesterday, ‘hump’ day might have been more like climbing Kilimanjaro than a speed hump in the road. The bottom line is that we likely survived Wednesday, whether we came out of the day scarred or flying high. Thursday provides more of a sense of groundedness, or at least relief from the stormy intensity of yesterday. If yesterday’s high intensity was to our benefit, then today we can put into operation practical means to accomplish our new interests. If yesterday had us slamming but hitting various roadblocks, today allows us to find comfort and relief from our angst. Thursday has the Taurus Moon opposed Mercury and the Moon sextile Neptune. This is a day for us to be wary of spending too much, possibly in reaction to having made it through yesterday and as some sort of reward for our survival. We could easily overspend today and put a dent into our financial position. Our intuitive sense can be strong today and a desire for us to seek sanctuary in the quiet of our comfortable living conditions. We may not get a great deal done today, might use it as a ‘mental health’ day to regroup and reinvigorate, but we can also become more aware of the tidal actions of our days, with times of a quiet ebb, other times of a tsunami-like flow. Yesterday would have been a tsunami-like flow of a day; today is more like a quiet ebb. We can sort things out on this Thursday, straighten things up and catch our breath. It is wise for us to keep in mind the metronome-like rhythm and the volatility of these times.
Friday, October 10th – Push Pulls – Pluto, Lunar T-Square, Jupiter, Saturn, Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Mercury Libra. Friday begins pleasantly enough with the Taurus Moon trine Pluto. As the day progresses, the Taurus Moon triggers a Fixed Sign T-Square with the Moon square Jupiter and the Moon opposed Saturn. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for fourteen hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Taurus and before entering Gemini tomorrow. The Sun sextiles Jupiter and Mercury retrogrades out of Scorpio and back into Libra. In the US, this Friday launches the long Columbus Day holiday weekend. We can accomplish a great deal in the early morning hours if we would focus on the most pressing demands. Whether we are looking to get away for what is often referred to in the northern US latitudes as the ‘leaf peeping’ weekend of trips to view the changing colors on the autumnal landscape or we are just eagerly anticipating an additional day of time off, we may easily leave the building, figuratively or literally, before our usual quitting time for the weekend. Getting around today could be somewhat convoluted. We might want to do more than reasonably possible and especially less possible under the circumstances of the Mercury retrograde. After our high productivity morning, we might find that things are taking longer than we expected. We may put more on our plate than we can accomplish in a short period of time. On the one hand, we can be feeling highly expansive, looking to stretch our wings, broaden our reach. On the other hand, we might find that conditions are slowing us down, clipping our wings and keeping us from being highly effective. Any tendency towards overreach could be short circuited by circumstance.
Saturday, October 11th – What a Day for a Daydream – Moon Void-of-Course, Neptune, Venus, Uranus. Saturday may be slow starting. We might want to stay in bed a little longer, take our time in getting the day going, and not exert ourselves to any large degree. The day begins with the Taurus Moon Void-of-Course from yesterday with the Moon making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Taurus and before entering Gemini today. Once we do get going, we might look to tie up loose ends, those errands we need to do, those projects we need to complete. The energy then shifts. As the Moon moves into Gemini, we might be ready for anything and everything, just so long as we can keep it short. Our movement may become more staccato-like with us sampling this, trying that, but without any commitment or long-term engagement. The Moon in Gemini squares Neptune today and Venus completes its trigger of the Uranus Pluto square. Venus squared Pluto back on Wednesday, our Kilimanjaro-like ‘hump’ day with the Lunar Eclipse. This Saturday, Venus opposes Uranus. Although this day could be a day for a daydream, a time when we can spend with someone special and do fun things and participate in the autumnal wonder of it all, we have to avoid the dreams turning into nightmares. Things that excite us, thrill us and seduce us can seem great from the outset, not so great once we get involved. This is a day better served sampling the sensations of the season and not immersing ourselves in any one thing. We have to be wary of our relationships today, as we have had to do over the past few days. Some people may be on the same page as us, but it would be wise to bear in mind that at this time of the season everyone may be on their own page with little accommodation to getting onto someone else’s page. While enjoyment may be our primary focus on this Saturday, let’s be aware and mindful regarding other people’s reactions to our plans and let’s avoid indulgence and excess that might be fun during the process but could leave us with a nasty hangover afterwards.
Sunday, October 12th – Loving the Spin I’m In – Uranus, Venus, Jupiter. Sunday is often referred to as a day of rest, but in these times we might find ourselves feeling that there is no rest for the weary. But this Sunday can prove restful, reinvigorating with a dash of magic and a sprinkle of mini-miracles. This day seems to be the nicest day of the week, a pleasant day to spend with someone special without the same barbs and self-absorption that our relationships might have been tinged with recently. Sunday has the Gemini Moon sextile Uranus, the Moon trine Venus and the Moon sextile Jupiter. What’s not to like about this day? There are no difficult energies today, no head-bangers or situations to trip us up. On the contrary, we can discover new aspects of ourselves, fully enjoy the company of others and feel upbeat and optimistic about everything going on. One of the classic songs, first recorded in 1942, and covered by so many of the great artists from then to now and probably on into the future, is That Old Black Magic. This Sunday can be very much akin to the lyrics from this song:
“In a spin, loving the spin I’m in
Under that old black magic called love.”
This Sunday is a day for us to embrace limitless possibilities, open our world to the unfamiliar, engage that special someone or those special people marching to their own drummer and doing their own thing, and being open to receive the random occurrences that can put a smile on our face. After a week of highs and lows, great intensity and quiet interludes, this Sunday ends on a high note when we can fully appreciate the wonders of living during these times. En joy.
