February 17th – 23rd, 2014

Winter lingers on this week, although this winter may seem more like body slams that send us reeling rather than trifling irritations. Eventually, winter must come to an end with Spring sprung, but it’s not yet, it’s not now.

This week continues with the Mercury retrograde and the final full week of this retrograde that may have contributed to our mood swings and liabilities to a most bi-polar disposition towards the manic – depressive. The Sun exits Aquarius and enters Pisces, the last Sign of the Zodiac with its promise to the end of winter and the eventual advent of Spring. We may be wishing and hoping for the coming of Spring, and we could easily chalk this winter up to our winter of discontent.

The week begins with us slow out of the gate. We may be exhausted by the turmoil that has gone on, fatigued by the vagaries of nature’s atmospheric conditions and downright lethargic to do more than just get a cup of coffee to our lips or an occasional sweet indulgence.

Our focus may revolve around friends and loved ones as we start the week. But we could find ourselves doing the dance with Jekyll and Hyde as people reveal different aspects of themselves that might seem largely out of character. Even our own behavior and attitudes could prove whipsaws, and everyone might be guessing as to the personality disorders being exhibited.

Elements of our past can resurface this week. We could hear from people we haven’t heard from in years. We might feel as though the phantoms of our past are coming back in parade style for us to revisit, contemplate where we have been but also recognize how much we have changed in the intervening time.

While we might feel uncomfortable in our own skin, we could also find ourselves captive to the unfolding of previous events, past times, and prior memories. Such recapitulations can serve as cleansings, the exorcisms of our mind and the releases of the past that no longer hold much weight for our present, much less our future.

During a week when our sensitivities are heightened, with the whipsaws of mood swings, we could choose the weekend as a time for escape, either physical escapes into new terrains, or escapes into the fantasyland of indulgences and tuning out to the so-called reality of mundane experience.

This week can be a highly emotional week, and it will be important for us not to overly personalize whatever is going on around us. It is far better for us to inventory the closets of our mind and to clean the cobwebs that could capture us into mental gymnastics of ups and downs.

Monday, February 17th – No Manic Monday Today – Saturn, Moon Void-of-Course. Monday begins the week with the Virgo Moon sextile Saturn before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over thirteen hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Virgo and before entering Libra. We may have great plans today but plans that concentrate more on clearing away debris rather than adding to our plate. We might have splendid intentions for this week as we start this day. We could schedule time to address outstanding matters, put our house in order and budget our resources. Intention and execution are two very different animals, and we may find our energy starts to flag with a tendency towards socializing rather than dealing with the specific details of straightening out our lives. We all like distractions and diversions, and this Monday we can be seeking out someone with whom we can justify stepping away from our obligations. It’s winter after all, and the energy is slow moving to begin with. Besides, we have the Mercury retrograde that could easily cause, and has caused, havoc with our movements and our communications. This Monday might be a day for us to put everything on hold. We know what we have to do, so we could feel that the battle is half won. Stepping away and enjoying the company of someone who can put a smile on our face may be far more worthwhile than just slogging through the mire of our paperwork, tasks, and obligations, many of which we might see as just busy work.

Tuesday, February 18th – Are We Loving the Spin We’re In? – Lunar Grand Cross, Uranus, Jupiter, Pluto, Sun Pisces. We are living in times of extremes — times when we have a great deal of energy, other times when we might feel lethargic and totally energy-less. Yesterday may have had us regrouping, trying to recapture our energy but doing so largely by stepping away from what needed to be done and enjoying the company of others. Tuesday switches gears and turns on the velocity. Today, the Libra Moon triggers a Cardinal Grand Cross as the Moon opposes Uranus in Aries, the Moon squares Jupiter in Cancer and the Moon squares Pluto in Capricorn. The fuse is lit and with it so too are we. This is a day when we could feel as though we are on a sprint with our direction and our itinerary largely unknown. We just have the feeling that we have to go as fast as we can. Other people may throw curve balls at us, and our plans can shift and change according to unexpected situations that arise. If we can keep up the pace, then we could find ourselves juggling very effectively a number of different activities. We just have to be wary that we do not try to do everything at once and do so in a slipshod manner just to get things done. With the Sun exiting Aquarius to enter Pisces, we may also feel like savior or martyr to the conditions and circumstances around us. We could easily engage other people’s problems and fall prey to their emotional dramas. While our interests today may largely focus on other people’s scenarios, we have to be wary that we do not lose ourselves in the conundrums of situations that are beyond our comprehension much less our grasp. Should we get overly involved in someone else’s predicaments, we might get caught up in a wearying spin and not one that we would love.

Wednesday, February 19th – Clearing the Air – Venus, Mercury, Mars, Moon Void-of-Course, Saturn. Wednesday continues with the Moon in Libra and today the Moon squares Venus, the Moon trines Mercury and the Moon conjuncts Mars. Mercury squares Saturn. If in the kerfuffle of yesterday’s energy we stepped on someone’s toes or someone tromped on ours, this is a day when we can clear the air and clarify any misunderstandings. Things could have been fast and furious yesterday with the unintended consequences of misinterpretations and screw-ups. Today, things can be straightened out, even if it necessitates eating a slice or two of crow. None of us likes to admit our mistakes and we might do so begrudgingly, but it would be far better to rectify any situations gone bad rather than to allow them to fester and get worse. Our mind might be slow today, and there could be a liability towards depression. We might feel that we are overly accommodating to someone else’s needs, but let’s appreciate the importance of our relationships and not get overly focused on slights or hurts, much of which might have been unintended. The Moon goes Void-of-Course for over five and a half hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Libra and before entering Scorpio late in the day, early Thursday. This is a day for us to consider our use of time, monies and energies and to determine how we can be the most resourceful.

Thursday, February 20th – The Greatest Meaning – Lunar Grand Trine, Sun, Neptune, Jupiter, Pluto. Thursday can be an especially pleasant day. We are not feeling pressured, but everything can fit neatly into place. The Scorpio Moon today creates a Water Grand Trine with the Moon trine both the Sun and Neptune in Pisces and the Moon trine Jupiter in Cancer. The Moon also sextiles Pluto. If we listen to our inner voice, trust our intuitive sense, we could come up with the most expeditious ways to achieve our goals. We are looking to focus on our purpose, give our lives greater meaning. We may feel as though we can get by with the basic fundamentals, with no need for the superfluous or diversionary. This Thursday is a wonderful day to contemplate and consider the truly essential in our lives. We may come to appreciate, even realize, that our lives have a far greater meaning and purpose than just scratching out a living and looking for momentary pleasures. We could recognize today that we are spiritual beings on a journey of self-exploration, self-discovery and en-lightenment. The world, our world, is not what it may seem but a fathomless experience far more magical than we assume. We can touch the divine being in ourselves and in other people today. Namaste — roughly translated as “The Spirit within me salutes the Spirit in you”.

Friday, February 21st – Every Which Way But Loose – Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Moon Void-of-Course. Friday calls for us to be highly resourceful. The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio with the Moon square Mercury, the Moon sextile Venus and the Moon conjunct Saturn. Later in the day, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for twelve hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Scorpio and before entering Sagittarius tomorrow. Our desire today might be to get on with our lives, to move forward in new directions and directions that allow us greater autonomy and greater freedom of movement. While our focus may be more on future plans, our activities today might be more reined in by our present obligations and outstanding matters from our past. We may feel hemmed in by our responsibilities today. Someone might have need for our assistance, and we could find ourselves stepping away from developing our plans to provide aid to someone close to us who may be having a hard time and unable to extricate themselves from their own problems. While there can be delays and frustrations in our path today, let’s keep in mind that none of us is an island unto ourselves. We are all here in this milieu and while our journey is an individual one, we are also journeying with other people along the way. Our spirit of empathy and compassion can engage us in someone else’s situation, but it would be wise of us to realize that our perspective may be far more objective than the person attached to their issues and consequently we can provide a clearer take on what is really going on for that person and provide practical suggestions as to how they can successfully resolve the matter. We may want to clear the decks of our own tasks before we come into the weekend, but today may remind us of the refrain from one of the classic Beatles songs: “Oh I get by with a little help from my friends.”

Saturday, February 22nd – Making Plans, God Laughing – Sun, Neptune, Uranus. I often say that ‘confusion is the starting point of wisdom’. When we are in a state of confusion, our rigidity and assumption that we know what is right and what we know to be the correct action fall apart. In such a state, we are far more open to options and alternatives that we would not otherwise entertain. Saturday may provide such a disposition, for today the Moon moves into Sagittarius and the Moon squares both the Sun and Neptune. We may want to spread our wings, expand our interests, and engage activities that are foreign to our daily experience. We could feel as though ‘the world is our oyster’ and we can choose whatever we want to do and however we want to do it. Ah, yes, the opportunity of choice unlimited. What a great feeling, but also a feeling that instills a sense of infinite possibilities, and that may prove to be the conundrum of the day. We could start and stop on this Saturday, wanting to do this, seeking to do that, but all with a certain lack of commitment to the follow through. While we could find ourselves spinning our wheels as we start the day, it might be important for us to realize that every journey begins with the first step and once on the track we could discover that our planned trajectories go off in different unplanned directions. What we begin the day with may not be what we pursue during the course of the day. But it is important for us to get the day going on this Saturday. Although this Saturday could seem like a kaleidoscope of varied interests and activities, we might find that towards the end of the day, early Sunday new doors open to us, as the Sagittarius Moon trines Uranus. It would be wise for us to keep in mind the paradigm shift that we are all experiencing — the move away from sequential progression where we believe we have control over situations towards the asequential reality where there is a natural unfolding going on in most peculiar ways but that can prove far more exciting and exhilarating than our pre-programmed intentions. Saturday is a day for us to embrace the 12 Step Program’s Step 3 paraphrased as ‘let go, let god’. We may start this Saturday in a state of confusion, but as I wrote above I would suggest that confusion is the starting point of wisdom. New and unexpected situations can open up to us as the day progresses.

Sunday, February 23rd – Moments of Awakenings – Mercury, Sun, Neptune. Sunday continues with the Sagittarius Moon with the Moon today sextile Mercury. The Sun conjuncts Neptune. Yesterday might have had us flying off in all sorts of directions until we found a trail that suddenly opened up to us and resonated for our following through. Saturday may have been highly active, even if somewhat scattered in its processional. Sunday is a day when we can ever more connect with our inner being, our spiritual side of ourselves. Based upon some mini-miracle of which we have become astutely aware, we might realize that the world is a far more magical experience than what we have been taught or that we experience when we have the blinders of our mundane daily existence limiting our vision. This Sunday allows for reveries, contemplations and a reconnection with our inner being. This may not be a highly energetic day on the external level but much can be percolating on the internal level. Getting into nature and the perfection evident in nature’s cathedral can be enlivening to our soul. Listening to soothing music, reading inspiring literature and reflecting on the many steps we have taken on our journey can be uplifting and nurture our sense of wonder to the choices we have made and the paths that we have taken. This weekend is a good time for us to consider where we have been, where we are and where we would choose to be in our days ahead. Illumination can be ours if we take the time to stop, look and appreciate who we are. Like a snowflake, not any one of us is the same.
