December 16th – 22nd, 2013

The end of autumn and the beginning of winter, this week ratchets up the energy with us hustling, bustling and participating in holiday celebrations.

Saint Nick may not be the only one making his list, checking it twice. We might be going over our own lists of what we need to get done, what we want to get done and what we would like to engage if we have any extra time. Extra time? Ho-ho-ho.

The week begins with us juggling any number of things. We may be making phone calls, discussing ideas and plans with other people, and trying to catch up with friends with whom we have had little contact over the year. It’s the holidays, the time of year when we seek to reach out to our loved ones, friends and those people we hold dear with whom we may have lost touch. We could be holiday shopping, having personal makeovers and preparing food items for sumptuous indulgences over the next few weeks.

The mid-part of the week can have us focusing on our family and home with the home fires burning. Unexpected situations might arise that necessitate our being nimble and quick in order to effectively handle some of the various things thrown our way. While our footing may be less than firm, we just have to be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and keep on keeping on.

The weekend may be geared towards entertainment, having a good time by taking in movies, festive concerts and socializing with family, friends and neighbors. We may be doing our finishing touches for the forthcoming week’s holiday gatherings but let’s not lose the joy and spirit of the season to the frenzied and frenetic activity that this time of year often entails.

Monday, December 16th – Plans, Plans and More Plans – Mercury. Monday begins the week with the Moon in Gemini and the Moon opposed Mercury today. The Moon is in a Mercury-ruled Sign while Mercury is transiting a Sign of its Detriment, a sign where Mercury is not at all comfortable. We could have a lot going on today, but much of our activity may not necessarily be all that well planned. On the contrary, this day could have us grasping at straws, trying to do as much as we can and then even more. This is a day when the hurried activity can have us glossing over details, neglecting important facets and going headlong into the shopping frenzy that this season engenders. Through the songs of the season, the seductive advertisements of this time of year and the great expectations, we are all programmed to shop, shop and shop. It’s all for the good of the economy, good for our soul and all that we are supposed to do in our consumer-driven society. Like a gerbil on a wheel, no matter how fast we go we might just keep spinning interminably. If we could put some braking action on today, then we might be able to disengage from the frenzy of the season. But we are moving towards tomorrow’s Gemini Full Moon, so we may find our emotions heightened with a tendency to react impulsively and possibly mistakenly to anything that is being told us.

Tuesday, December 17th – Everything One Could Wish For – Gemini Full Moon, Sun, Moon Void-of-Course, Neptune, Mars, Uranus direct. Tuesday has the Gemini Full Moon with the Moon opposed the Sun. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for almost nine hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Gemini and before entering Cancer, where today the Moon trines Neptune and the Moon squares Mars. Uranus ends its five-month retrograde cycle and turns direct. This is a day when our emotions are heightened and we may be looking at our prospects and possibilities. Our thoughts might be more geared towards the future rather than the present. We might want to accentuate our freedom, our individuality, our own thing, all with great expectations that what we want we can have just by our wishing and willing it so. Without due diligence, we could take leaps of faith and not account for conditions or circumstances. Our attention might skip over our responsibilities and present-day realities and create castles in the air. Thoughts of sugar plums, magic and miracles can all be enticing, but let’s keep in mind that intention often needs to be followed up with some sweat equity. Today is a day for us to refocus on the changes we wish to incorporate in our lives, all the while giving thought as to how we can be in synch with the unfolding process.

Wednesday, December 18th – Tempering and Tenderizing – Lunar T-Square, Uranus, Pluto. Wednesday triggers the Uranus Pluto square that we have been dealing with for the past couple of years and whose influence we shall continue to feel over the next two years. The Cancer Moon creates a Lunar T-Square with the Moon square Uranus and the Moon opposed Pluto. We may find ourselves pulled in various directions today. Home decoration and family matters may be at the center of our push pull, but we may have to contend with certain routine obligations and feel as though our wings are being clipped. We may have some grand plans for ourselves today, but as the wise saying states: ‘if you want to make god laugh, tell god your plans’. This is a day when various unexpected situations could arise demanding our attention. Plans made for this day may have to be altered or postponed. We might feel as though commitments are getting in the way of our spontaneity. We may be in high gear today but feeling a little knocked about by some of the curve balls thrown our way. Tai chi moves are called for, whereby we skirt any deadly serious matters and try to keep things on the light side. Let’s avoid overly personalizing any untoward incidents that could occur today. We are going through a tempering and tenderizing process and it is important for us not to take ourselves, or other people, too seriously.

Thursday, December 19th – The Comforts of Home – Jupiter, Saturn, Venus. With the Moon transiting Cancer and the Moon conjunct Jupiter, the Moon trine Saturn and the Moon opposed Venus on this Thursday, we may be tidying up around our home and feathering our nest in order to enjoy the comforts of home. With the holidays upon us, we could easily justify our spending for making our home and family more comfortable and more appealing. We are likely to feel upbeat in our sentiments and wanting to put our best foot forward. Whether we have plans to be out and about or just wanting to stay by the home fires burning, we are likely to feel warmed and comforted by our thoughts and reconnections with people near and far. Quiet times of reflection regarding where we have been and where we are going could give us an appreciation of the different phases of our life’s journey. This season is one when we often step away from the fury of our fast-paced daily lives and take moments to reflect on the different high points of our lives up to this point. Memories are wonderful reconfigurations of events long past, and on this Thursday we may be recalling past get-togethers and long forgotten incidents that have given fullness to our lives. Today is a good day to clear away the clutter, take brief moments to reflect and have the attitude of gratitude for all the blessings in our lives. We do not have to live up to other people’s expectations but instead can savor the colorful kaleidoscope of the many events that have encompassed our personal journey through this life experience.

Friday, December 20th – Holiday Spirits – Mars, Uranus. Friday has the Moon in Leo and the Moon today sextiles Mars and the Moon trines Uranus. We may start the weekend and the forthcoming Christmas week in high spirits. We are looking for fun events, engaging with that special someone in our lives, all with the intention of having good times with good friends. Entertainment and celebration may be foremost in our minds on this Friday. If we go shopping, we may be considering interesting and quirky gifts — getting something for that special someone that they would never dream of getting for themselves. And while we are at it, we might even find some technological item that we just have to have. And why not? If we are giving presents to other people, why not gift ourselves? This is a day when we may want to stretch our wings, do things on an impulse and preferably fly with a loving companion. We are not interested in the ‘tried and true’ today. We want adventure, excitement and a respite from our everyday world. It’s the holidays, after all, and we are looking to fully engage the spirit. Or is that spirits?

Saturday, December 21st – Here Comes the Sun – Saturn, Winter Solstice, Sun Capricorn, Venus retrograde. Saturday has the Leo Moon square Saturn. This is also the day in the northern hemisphere when the darkest day of the year births into increasing light, for today is the Winter Solstice, the day that the Sun exits Sagittarius to enter Capricorn and the day when daylight in the northern hemisphere increases daily to the longest daylight of the year at the time of the Summer Solstice. Venus turns retrograde today. With the extremes that have gone on in our emotions, in our personal lives and in the world itself over the past few years, we may find that today we might have overdone it with our holiday celebrations. This Saturday could have us continuing on the fast track of holiday celebrations and shopping and indulgences. If we go there, it is essential that we not break the bank and ratchet up our debt. We might also decide that enough is enough and put braking action on our shopping sprees. We might even have buyer’s remorse over certain purchases we have made in our gift selections for various people. We might feel that we are giving more than we are getting back in return. While we may have been caught up in the frenzy of these holidays, this Saturday could have us taking a look at whether we have been seduced into the holiday merry making to the point of overextending ourselves. Although we have made our list of holiday preparations, this Saturday could have us checking it twice and seeing whether we have been too nice to other people, naughty to our financial health. We can be looking at situations and wondering ‘what’s in it for me?’ Even social engagements can seem obligatory more than celebratory. Although we could be slightly more serious-minded, there no reason for us to get Scrooge-like. We can enjoy the holidays but we can also cut back on our expenses.

Sunday, December 22nd – Final Preparations – Mercury, Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Neptune. Sunday begins with the Leo Moon trine Mercury. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for close to six hours making no further connections to the planets as the Moon finishes its transit of Leo and before entering Virgo, where today the Moon trines the Sun and the Moon opposes Neptune. We may still be on a high with the holiday spirit, giving thought to our plans, and doing our final phases of shopping. If we go into the malls, we may be looking for those bargains and sale items. We can be far more diligent in regard to what we are spending and on what we are spending. Our impulsiveness of the past few days can be toned down significantly. We may be far more adept at scouting out bargains. We do have to be wary that we don’t have so much on our ‘to do’ list that we skip over details and miss the fine points. This is a day for us to start to wrap our preparations for Christmas week. We can also make our plans for the items we need to attend to before the close of the year. We may not want to bring some of this year’s old baggage into the new year, and we can make our plans as to what we need to complete before the end of the year.
