June 17th – 23rd, 2013

This week has a crescendo of energy, all with the impetus to get done what needs to get done and all with the intention of cutting to the core and re-establishing fundamentals.

There are major shifts in energy this week. We cross the bridge from Spring into Summer, enjoying the longest daylight of the year in the northern Hemisphere. The Sun moves from Gemini into Cancer. Before doing so, the Sun conjuncts Jupiter, which is finishing its full year transit of Gemini with Jupiter about to enter Cancer next week. This is the last full week of Mercury direct, before next week when Mercury turns retrograde. And the week culminates on Sunday with the Capricorn Full Moon.

Now is a time for us to straighten out things. We need to clean up our messes, close the door on past involvements that may no longer work for us, and ruminate without taking action the possibilities of our future. Where do we want to go? What do we want to do? Who do we want to be?

This week can have us making nice to other people. That in itself could be something of a shift in energy, since we might have felt that people were terribly self-focused and interested solely in looking out for themselves. Although we might have to tiptoe through the minefields of people’s frustrations and anxieties, with the liability of their going off without a moment’s notice, we can have some pleasant interactions with people, especially one on one. We might want to catch up with people, make our plans for summer get-togethers and just check in on those special people in our lives to see how they are coming along during these times of ragged cliffs along the pathways.

The mid-part of this week can be effectively used to engage the concept that ‘the cup has to be emptied before it can be filled’. Not that we have to rid ourselves of everything and start completely anew. But it would be wise for us to do a final Spring cleaning and clearing to eliminate some of the ties that bind and prepare space for new adventures and new involvements.

The latter part of the week celebrates the Summer Solstice. Here comes summer! And we might have all sorts of plans to travel, to stretch our wings and broaden our expanse. Even if we are solely looking at staycations over the summer, we are interested in discovering new surroundings and taking the role of the accidental tourist, even just in our own neighborhood. Adventure is key this summer, but we may also have a firm grip on our pocketbook and wallet, unwilling to spend more than necessary, and trying to virtually squeeze blood from a stone.

Although we may be feeling upbeat and confident as we begin the summer, we are confident more in our own abilities rather than those conductors who seem asleep at the wheel on what we might intuit to be a runaway train. We want to expand our activities and widen our realm, but we are unwilling to rely on the hype and spin projected regarding what the powers-that-be say is going on. As the old saying goes, we might have learned: ‘Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.’

The weekend closes with the Capricorn Full Moon. Our sense of balance can be a great deal stronger. We may be more acutely aware and mindful as to what is truly occurring in our lives. We might feel as though life has trained us, similar to Mr. Miyagi training Daniel in the movie Karate Kid, to develop balance and not to be overwhelmed by the challenges we face. Our confidence can be strong and so too our willingness not to accept things at face value but rather to pull back the curtain to the Wizard of Oz screen in order to see the little guy pulling the strings.

The more we can accomplish this week, the less fractured we shall feel as we come into the significant shifts in energy next week.

Monday, June 17th – Twist and Turn – Lunar T-Square, Pluto, Uranus, Mars. Monday starts the week with the Uranus Pluto square triggered by the Moon in Libra creating a T-Square with the Moon square Pluto and the Moon opposed Uranus. The Moon trines Mars, and Mars sextiles Uranus. Even if we feel thwarted by other people or ‘the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’, we have the ability to be nimble and quick to avoid any impediments that could get in our way or stop us. We might have to change our plans in a nanosecond, but we may have gotten used to the need for spontaneous responses and impulsive reactions. The more adroit we can be in shifting and changing, the better we can cope with the unexpected variables that come our way. More than one of us has felt the rug being pulled out from under recently, and often in the most inexplicable ways and with no good reason. Let’s avoid personalizing any dramatic changes that might occur but increasingly recognize that the universe is at play. Even what seems to be a disaster for us can open doors that we could have never imagined for ourselves and doors that are more appreciative of our talents and that allow us to grow into greater self-fulfillment, and self-realization. These are exciting times, but they do call for being nimble and quick, willing to risk so-called security for the adventure of a lifetime. Today can have us opening our eyes to possibilities that we have not even considered, possibilities that we would have once concluded as impossibilities. Magic is in the air even when it seems as though problems, bad intentions and evil taint the atmosphere.

Tuesday, June 18th – From Reticence to Confidence – Venus, Mercury, Sun, Jupiter. Tuesday begins with the Libra Moon square both Venus and Mercury. Later in the day, the Libra Moon trines both the Sun and Jupiter. We might start the day a little unsure of ourselves. We may feel that someone else’s star shines brighter than our own. There could be a tendency for us to hold back as we start the day. Perhaps we are willing to allow other people to take center stage. Or we might decide to spend more time in the sanctuary of our home, protected from the vagaries of the world outside. No matter how we start the day, as the day progresses we could feel like the refrain from the old children’s story The Little Engine That Could: “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” We become more confident, more exuberant as the day goes along. An optimistic nature outshines our reticence, and we may once again feel good about life and about ourselves. This is a day of interesting swings. While we might feel self-consciousness at the beginning of the day, self-evaluation is a positive attribute if not carried to the extreme of either self-criticism or self-adulation. As we come towards the latter part of the day, we do have to watch for a tendency to think too highly of ourselves. Balance today would avoid either extreme. We can also use this day to attend to matters around our home, outstanding issues calling for resolution, which once dealt with, would allow us to use the later hours to expand into new and far more interesting areas.

Wednesday, June 19th – Head in the Clouds, Feet on the Ground – Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, Sun, Jupiter. Wednesday has the Moon in Scorpio, and today the Moon conjuncts Saturn, the Moon trines Neptune and the Moon sextiles Pluto. The Sun conjuncts Jupiter. This day continues with the energies felt yesterday. Hopefully, we have balanced our needs and our wants and found a happy medium. For today we may be asked to focus on our responsibilities, our daily tasks but doing so in a streamlined manner and concentrating on the basic issues involved. We can draw upon our intuitive sense to come up with a best practices approach to what needs to get done. If we would clean up things and clear out some space, we could find that we have room to add new interests, new activities and new involvements. Today is a good day to engage the concept of ‘out with the old, in with the new’. We are not looking to re-create the past or replicate where we have been or what we have done. We want to spread our wings, consider possibilities and engage a more independent and autonomous lifestyle. We may be feeling good about life and about ourselves, but it would be wise for us to rid ourselves of the dross in order to spend more time on those areas that truly speak to our new sense of ourselves.

Thursday, June 20th – Compassionate Concerns – Venus, Mercury. Thursday continues with the Scorpio Moon with the Moon trine both Venus and Mercury. Mercury conjuncts Venus. This is one of those days when we might embrace the feeling of ‘there but for the grace of god go I’. We may go out of our way for those people whom we believe need help or are having a hard time. We are willing to be of assistance, but we do not want to be taken advantage of. We are compassionate and caring today. Our emotions can be intensely passionate, both with deep love and the flipside of extreme hatred. How our moods go depends upon whichever way the wind blows. This is a day for us to take care of our living space and family matters. We might want to straighten things up, do a final spring cleaning and clear things out in order to have room to add new interests and new activities during the summertime. This is the last day of Spring. Summer comes late tonight, early tomorrow morning with the Summer Solstice as the Sun exits Gemini and enters Cancer.

Friday, June 21st – Wet and Wild – Neptune, Summer Solstice, Sun Cancer. Late Thursday, early Friday is the beginning of Summer, as the Sun exits Gemini and enters Cancer. The Moon moves into Sagittarius where today the Moon squares Neptune. There is a great deal of Water today and to begin the Summer. While we may still feel a great deal of expansiveness with a strong desire to broaden our scope, our clarity may be somewhat lacking. Much of our focus can be on home and family matters. Even if we are planning vacations, our holiday time this summer might be more staycations than distant trips. We might want to go far distances but the logistics just might not come together. Finances could be a concern and delays can mean last-minute arrangements. Let’s give thought to fix-ups around our home base with the idea of entertaining friends and neighbors. Plans can be made for family reunions and get-togethers with those special people in our lives.

Saturday, June 22nd – Over There – Uranus, Mars. Saturday has the Sagittarius Moon trine Uranus and the Moon opposed Mars. We may have a lot on our plate today, some of it planned, some of it spontaneous. We might be more interested in doing things on a whim, being impulsive and adding on greater variety to our plans for the day. Although we could easily go into overload today, we can handle it all, and then some, by doing a little here, giving a little there. Spending brief moments in all our activities would prevent us from getting overwhelmed by what we are committed to doing and what we want to do on the fly. Let’s be prudent in our actions though and keep in mind the advisory statement that ‘haste makes waste’. Haste could also trigger accidents so we need to keep aware and be mindful.

Sunday, June 23rd – Balance Point – Jupiter, Capricorn Full Moon, Sun, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, Uranus. We often think of Sunday as a day of rest, but I wouldn’t count on this Sunday being restful. The early morning hours has the Sagittarius Moon opposed Jupiter. The Moon then goes into Capricorn and we have the Capricorn Full Moon with the Moon opposed the Sun. The Moon today also sextiles Saturn, the Moon sextiles Neptune, the Moon conjuncts Pluto and the Moon squares Uranus. This Sunday could be an exhausting day. We are looking to balance our personal interests with the interests of the greater good. We may have to address various obligations, all the while desirous of alone time to regroup and recharge our batteries. The key to today is planning, creating our schedule but doing so in pencil with a large eraser. Things can change in a nanosecond. Even if we are dealing with a multitude of situations, curveballs can come our way that force us to be flexible and adaptable to the rapid changes occurring in our lives and around us.
