November 5th – 11th, 2012

Here we go again. This week can be topsy turvy, not just because of the elections in the US but more importantly [he writes in jest?] because this week begins another Mercury retrograde. This Mercury retrograde is a doozey and may prove reminiscent of one of my favorite comedic skits of long ago [far funnier than this Mercury retrograde]. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were one of those comedy duos that graced the airwaves in the late 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s. Their most memorable skit was ‘Baseball’ with their going around in circles with the nicknames of the infield players: ‘Who’s on first, What’s on second, I Don’t Know is on third.’

We may wonder the same thing this week as we try and find our balance with this Mercury retrograde — ‘Who’s on first, What’s on second, I Don’t Know is on third.’

This Mercury retrograde has Mercury in Sagittarius, the Sign of its Detriment where Mercury is not comfortable. But there is also a Mutual Reception with Mercury in the Sign ruled by Jupiter while Jupiter is in Gemini the Sign ruled by Mercury. Jupiter in Gemini is the Sign of Jupiter’s Detriment and Jupiter is also retrograde. Added to the intensity, confusion and misunderstanding is the fact that this Mercury retrograde also occurs with a Mutable Sign T-Square with Mercury in orb of squaring Neptune in Pisces. What a conundrum! We may wonder whether we are coming or going or just end up spinning our wheels.

The week begins with the Moon Void-of-Course finishing its transit of Cancer and before entering Leo on Monday. The early part of the week may have us putting on a grand show for all to see, although we might be only playing to an audience of one, ourselves. We might be in search of fun times, but we could wind up running down dark alleys or finding ourselves at dead ends. A sense of back and forth could be prominent, and we might see that even with the US election results with various races still in question long after the polls close.

We continue with some long Void-of-Course Moons, when the energy dies down and we feel like we are rolling a boulder up a mountain just to get anything done. Taking care of our daily responsibilities can be foremost on our mind during the latter part of the week. It would be wise for us to go slowly, for trying to do things quickly and attend to things in a cursory manner can lead to mistakes and misunderstandings.

The weekend could have some pleasant times with that special person, or persons, in our lives. Even if our plans do not go according to schedule, we can enjoy the camaraderie with someone who enjoys our banter and makes us feel good about ourselves.

While this week could prove topsy-turvy, the more that we can maintain a handle on our emotions, decisions and actions, the less we are liable to step into messes of our own making or other people’s making.

Monday, November 5th – What About Me? – Moon Void-of-Course, Saturn, Mercury. The Void-of-Course Moon for much of yesterday continues into the early part of this Monday as the Moon finishes its transit of Cancer without making any further connections to the planets and before entering Leo later in the day. The Moon in Leo squares Saturn and trines Mercury, which is about to turn retrograde tomorrow. There may not be a great deal of energy to start this day and this week. We might feel overly sensitive to our environment and surroundings. We could play a ‘poor me’ card, moaning and whining about life’s circumstances and feeling victim to the powers-that-be. Some of us might choose to pull the covers up over our head and hide out, while others might seek other forms of escapism by tuning out. While we might feel restricted and imposed upon by the vagaries of life’s conditions, it would be wise for us to keep in mind both the concept that ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’ and the idea that ‘we never get more than we can handle’. If we don’t fall prey to feeling put upon but take responsibility for our own actions, then we could also come to the realization that no matter how difficult some situations might seem to be, there is always some solution or understanding to resolve the problem. Hmmm, why do I hear strains of the Rocky theme song [as in Rocky Balboa played by Sylvester Stallone and Bill Conti’s Gonna Fly Now not Rocky of Rocky and Bullwinkle].

Tuesday, November 6th – Now the Fun Begins – Uranus, Venus, Jupiter, Sun, Mercury retrograde. Tuesday continues with the Leo Moon, which today has the Moon trine Uranus, the Moon sextile Venus, the Moon sextile Jupiter and the Moon square the Sun. Mercury turns retrograde. In case you missed it, Mercury turns retrograde. The title for the day is written in a facetious manner, for today begins one doozey of a Mercury retrograde, and it’s Election Day in the US. We may not have had as much fun on Election Day since 2000. Oh boy, talk about convoluted! With the Leo Moon, we may feel at the top of our game, dressed up to kill, looking to make a grand impression and sensing the world to be our oyster, ready for us to sup on. Nice concept, and we might well be able to pull it off… just as long as we do not open our mouth. Oops, maybe I’m already feeling the Mercury retrograde. What I mean to indicate is that we can open our mouth to sup and eat and drink, even be merry. But we have to watch what we say, how we say it, so that we don’t look as if we are all together, only for such an impression to be quickly dispelled by our running at the mouth with various non sequiturs and with some illogical, perhaps even idiotic, statements. Not that this cautionary note will be heeded. Many a person will be pontificating today, righteously admonishing some, regaling others, but we might simply shake our heads and wonder what the hell they are saying. This Mercury retrograde is a beaut! Not beaut in beautiful but beaut as in tsunami-like. For this Mercury retrograde, as I mentioned above, is ratcheted up and will make Alice’s visit to the Tea Party with the Hatter and the March Hare seem like a rational colloquy on the meaning of life. With the Mercury retrograde beginning today and lasting until the 26th with its ‘shadow’ extending to the 13th of December, we have to be MINDFUL and AWARE of what is going on without buying into the hype, promises and hope. Let’s be careful in our thinking and avoid any definitive decisions without our evaluating, re-evaluating and playing the devil’s advocate. What we see may not be what we get.

Wednesday, November 7th – The Mourning After – Mars, Moon Void-of-Course. Wednesday begins with the Leo Moon trine Mars. The US Elections were yesterday. Some people may feel overjoyed, others downright depressed, but both sides might feel dazed and slightly confused. Not that confusion will stand in the way of a fast start out of the gate in the morning. We may be off and running and looking to spread our wings and expand our operations. We may have a feeling regarding the ways things are unfolding. But I would suggest caution. For the liability towards over-optimism and excess can be strong. We may start the day with a turbo thrust, but the energy then stalls out as the Moon goes Void-of-Course for thirteen hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Leo and before entering Virgo tonight, early Thursday. This is also the first full day of the Mercury retrograde. We might have our own plans in mind, but we could also be misreading what is going on around us. It would be wise for us to modulate some of our own personal energies since there may not be enough information or full disclosure to make adequate judgments. People may still be haranguing their opinions and their beliefs as fact. Just because one person speaks the loudest does not mean they are correct in their assessments. To borrow from Lao Tzu and the Tao Te Ching: “Those who know do not talk. Those who talk do not know.”

Thursday, November 8th – Mindless Distractions, Focused Intent – Lunar T-Square, Neptune, Mercury, Saturn, Pluto. If things have not been confusing enough, thanks largely to this pesky Mercury retrograde, the confusion seems to ratchet up on this Thursday. This day is a paradoxical day, a day when there is a fork in the road, and a day when we can choose to get caught up in the mindless rantings of conjectures and assumptions, or we can block out the chattering idiocies and concentrate on what we need to do in our own personal lives. The Mercury retrograde, and this one is a mean one, started with a Mutable T-Square by Sign with Mercury in Sagittarius, Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Gemini. The Moon in Virgo today and tomorrow triggers the Mercury retrograde, today by means of the Virgo Moon creating a T-Square as the Moon opposes Neptune and the Moon squares Mercury, tomorrow with the Moon square Jupiter and the Moon also square Mars. There will be people analyzing situations, determining important factors to any situation and rationalizing their decisions today. Unfortunately, all of it may just be a lot of gibberish since the basis for their analysis, their opinion and their judgments could be largely based on wrong information, misinformation or not having all the facts. As Sergeant Joe Friday in the classic TV series Dragnet would say when a witness was rattling on: “All we want are the facts, ma’am.” Either we could engage in the head spinning, crazy making discussions of what has gone on, what is going on and what will go on and all without much more than a shred of knowledge; or we can quietly step away and focus on our own personal worlds, our goals, our ambitions and how best to circumnavigate the currents of these times. While the Virgo Moon triggers a T-Square today, the Virgo Moon also sextiles Saturn and the Moon trines Pluto. If we do not get sidetracked by mindless diversions or exhausting distractions, then we could concentrate on how we can advance our projects and develop our interests in the most expeditious means with the best use of our resources. This is a good day to strategize, make plans but all with a surgical knife to cut away any excess or baseless wishes. We need to be mindful and aware, incisive and intent. Today is a fork in the road. We can either join the collective with a lot of chattering and like lemmings parade towards the cliffs, or we can take the bull by the horns and do what we need to do to prepare our plans with a best practices approach. Our choice, always our choice.

Friday, November 9th – Too Good to Be True – Venus, Jupiter, Lunar T-Square, Mars, Sun. Yesterday and today could be a little bonkers, if we give in to dropping our due diligence and instead become enamored by the images on the wizard of oz screen without pulling back the curtain to see the little guy pulling the strings. Friday continues with the Mutable Sign T-Square but today the Virgo Moon squares Jupiter in Gemini and the Moon squares Mars in Sagittarius. Venus trines Jupiter and the Moon sextiles the Sun. We may be told that there are resolutions to unresolved situations, and in so doing we might feel as though all is well in the world. A sense of uplift and inspiration can be strong on this day, and such attitudes could give license to indulgence and excess. But as Yogi Berra would suggest to us: ‘It ain’t over ‘til it’s over’. To buy into the assertion that various situations have been completed and issues resolved would accept at face value matters that may be far more complicated than a momentary conclusion. It’s Friday and we are heading towards the weekend. We may have felt anxious and uncertain about what has been going on this week and over the past few weeks [months!], and so taking some time to indulge ourselves may not be a bad idea. At the same time, it might be wise for us to dip our toes into the water rather than diving into the deep end, for what seems to be happening may not be the true reality or the finality of a situation. We may be looking to get together with good friends today and over the weekend. And why not? After all, if we could, we would embrace the sentiments of the classic Eddy Arnold song with the lyrics: “Make the World go away And get it off my shoulders.”

Saturday, November 10th – Plans Made, God Laughing – Mercury, Lunar T-Square, Uranus, Pluto. One of my favorite sayings, one that I often refer to and one that you might be tired of reading, states: ‘if you want to make god laugh, tell god your plans.’ And so it might be on this Saturday when our plans, no matter how well conceived, could turn out to be fantasies and illusions in the light of day. Saturday has the Moon in Libra sextile Mercury but with the Moon also creating a Cardinal Sign T-Square as the Libra Moon opposes Uranus in Aries and the Moon squares Pluto in Capricorn. Plans including someone else could fall foul of unexpected events. We might feel called upon to take care of situations that we had not anticipated, nor could anticipate. We may want to spread our wings, get out of Dodge and explore the broad horizon. Unfortunately, situations might arise, other people contest our suggestions, and we could experience a little bit of our wings being clipped. This is a day when we might be champing at the bit to get on with things, broaden our expanse and focus on new and different areas of interest. The reality could be that we are blocked from doing this or that but none of the impediments being of our making. Let’s avoid reading the riot act to anyone today, for it could only stir up animosity and create more problems than it’s worth. My experiences have led me to understand that even when our plans might be unexpectedly quashed, other doors can open up that are far more exciting and enlivening than those we had planned for ourselves. Magic is in the air, even if we first see it only as mayhem.

Sunday, November 11th – All’s Right in the World – Jupiter, Venus, Neptune direct. Sunday can be an especially pleasant day. The Libra Moon today trines Jupiter and the Moon conjuncts Venus. Neptune turns direct. Even if plans yesterday didn’t materialize as we would want them to, this Sunday can more than make up for any disappointment we might have felt. Today is a great day to spend with our friends and loved ones. There is cheerful banter, delightful conversation and a sense of a mutual admiration society where people are encouraging one another, looking at the positive attributes and characteristics of each other and enjoying the company. This Sunday is an upbeat day, even if conversations are never ending and there is a great deal to discuss. There are few parade rainers today. On the contrary, everyone seems fairly upbeat and enjoying doing life. We might not be looking at much energy except in our conversations and we might be able to lift a glass of good spirits to our lips but that could be as much exertion as we are willing to engage. No matter, this is Sunday. We are likely to have had a whirlwind week, and weeks, of various ups and downs. This Sunday allows us to recharge our batteries and see the half glass of water as half full, not half empty, with the potential of filling up ever more.
