October 29th – November 4th, 2012

This week seems a week of extremes with times of intense, ratcheted-up energies and other times when the energies are calm, even stagnant. The week begins with Monday’s Full Moon in Taurus. This Full Moon can be especially severe in the mid-Atlantic and northeastern US thanks to what is being referred to as a ‘frankenstorm’, a perfect storm with a hurricane moving up the Atlantic coastline and likely to collide with a cold front and storms heading from the Midwest. Add to this combination the Full Moon when tides are exaggerated and you have a scenario for a devastating, even catastrophic, storm system.

Even those of us who have either dodged the bullet of the worst of a storm system or were far from the path of an atmospheric storm may find the start of the week to be a little over the top. Monday begins the week with the Full Moon. We could feel pulled in different directions, concerned about our finances and our resources, ever more cognizant of the tax bite and increased living costs forthcoming, no matter where we might be living, and wondering whether we are caught on a runaway train barreling towards a societal and personal fiscal cliff.

Like the aggravated tides at the time of a Full Moon, this week is a week of extremes — higher high tides and lower low tides. These extremes may not be impacting merely tidal actions of the physical ocean systems but could also be affecting our emotional mood swings.

Anxieties can demand that we look to clear away and cut out some of the debris of our lives. The storms, whether atmospheric or emotional, can force our hand to deal with issues we might have preferred to have kept at bay or neglected and avoided to address.

As the week continues, the mid-week period could find us absorbed in various diversions and possible distractions from those things that are cause for worry or concern. We can be juggling any number of things, but we might have to ask ourselves whether all our juggling is merely a form of ‘busy work’, whereby we can focus on anything but the most important matters at hand.

We could even engage irrational exuberance. With boundless enthusiasm, we may rush ahead but our racing ahead might be fraught with extravagance, excesses and delusions.

Although we could be swept up in the wild swings of energy going on this week, it would be important for us to activate some braking action. Otherwise, we could go blindly into the night without due diligence, without considering the likely ramifications, without evaluating and re-evaluating along the way and without acknowledging the law of unintended consequences that could have collateral damages.

We do have the ability to cut through the fog, concentrate on the truly meaningful and clarify that which is important and meaningful to us, and that which is but a needless waste of our time. Excesses and extravagances, once engaged, can be reviewed and rectified. We can tap into the deep reservoir of our being and our resourcefulness and cut away any indulgences perpetrated by our ego wishes.

This week brings closure to October and entry into November. Worn out by the hurly-burly of the mid to latter part of the week, we might seek refuge in our home and family over the weekend. Unfortunately, such an escape might not prove the sanctuary we would wish it could be.

Interactions with other people over the weekend could be a little dicey. We may feel that we have accommodated, even capitulated, to someone’s wishes and desires without our getting much back in return. We may be looking for greener pastures, new connections and willing to pull the plug on certain associations that just seem far too difficult to maintain. Diplomacy may go out the window and a battle of wills engaged. Our desire for peace, serenity and equanimity could be shaken by discord and disharmony. We may feel put upon and wanting to cut the ties that bind. It would be wise for us to avoid precipitous action in regard to our connections with other people, for we might take extreme measures, which would be hard to step back from later on.

The weekend closes with a lull, perhaps at the point of exhaustion.

This week is a volatile week. The more we can modify extremes, the less we are likely to be whipsawed by the events and situations occurring around us. A sense of maintaining balance and awareness of the wildly swaying energies would help us navigate this week. Tai chi moves are called for, mindful of the energies operating and working within the parameters of those energies.

Monday, October 29th – Le Deluge Extraordinaire – Neptune, Saturn, Taurus Full Moon, Sun, Pluto, Moon Void-of-Course, Mercury, Mercury Sagittarius. Monday starts the week with the literal or figurative saying: ‘when it rains, it pours.’ In the eastern US, this day is a day when two atmospheric storm systems, one coming up the Atlantic coastline from the south and the other heading east from the Midwest, are expected to collide and at the time of the Full Moon. Meteorologists are referring to this as the perfect storm, a ‘frankenstorm’, a storm of the century. Whether we are subject to the physical storm system or not, this day can certainly be an emotional storm of worry and concern. The Taurus Moon today sextiles Neptune, opposes Saturn and opposes the Sun at the time of the Full Moon. Later, the Moon trines Pluto before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over forty-five and a half hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Taurus and before entering Gemini on Wednesday. Monday also has Mercury exiting Scorpio to enter Sagittarius, a Sign of its Detriment where Mercury is not comfortable, and Mercury then squares Neptune. With so much Neptune operating, the potential for wetness — physical or emotional — cannot be discounted. There can be a great deal of confusion today. Things may not be as they seem. Perhaps we are all operating on overload with a strong dose of anxiety mixed in. Our concerns could revolve around our resources, our assets and our liabilities. This is a day to avoid buying into the presentations. The wizard of oz screen may be intriguing and seductive, but it would be wise for us to pull back the curtain in order to see what is truly going on. We need to take things with a grain of salt today, not take things at face value and avoid impulsive and spontaneous reactions. We could be caught up in a frenzy of emotion. This Monday is a day to repeat almost mantram-like the words from The Serenity Prayer: ‘…grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.’

Tuesday, October 30th – Clean Up, Clear Out – Moon Void-of-Course, Sun, Pluto. After an amped up Monday, Tuesday could be the quiet after the storm. Or we might just look to pull the covers over our head. Whatever went on yesterday, we may feel as though we are going through a transformational process. We are not who we were, even if we do not know who we are or can even come up with who we intend to become. The Moon transiting through Taurus went Void-of-Course yesterday and continues Void-of-Course throughout this Tuesday and into tomorrow when the Moon moves into Gemini. This Tuesday does have the Sun sextile Pluto. I often say that ‘confusion is the starting point of wisdom.’ I say this because when we are confused we no longer hold such great value in our beliefs, our opinions or our judgments. We are more open to other perspectives, other viewpoints, other ideas than what we previously conceived as true. Confusion may have been rampant yesterday. We might have felt we were thrown into a blender, totally shaken up, with any semblance of normalcy out the window. Things told us might not have felt quite right, even if we nodded in absent agreement. But in the midst of our confused state, we might also have determined to get to the heart of the matter, to cut to the core, and to commit to focusing on the truly significant and rid ourselves of the extraneous. This day allows us to embrace our transformational selves, to clear up and clean out those involvements, projects and matters that hold no true relevance to where we intend to go and whom we intend to be. There are times when we choose to make drastic turns and dramatic changes. Other times when we are slow to get going, the universe steps in to help us release and rid ourselves of old matters.

Wednesday, October 31st – Too Many Tricks, Not Enough Treats – Moon Void-of-Course, Lunar T-Square, Neptune, Mercury, Venus. Today is Halloween, although some of us may feel as though every day has become Halloween with daily scary events and with us feeling so often tricked, seldom treated. The Moon continues its Void-of-Course that began back on Monday as the Moon finishes its transit of Taurus and before entering Gemini today. As the Moon moves into Gemini today, the Moon creates a Mutable Sign T-Square with the Moon square Neptune and the Moon opposed Mercury. The Moon also trines Venus. While slow starting, this day then suddenly shifts into a frenetic buzz of activity. What we are doing and where we are going may not be clear, but we are clearly in motion and accelerated at that. Our mind may be whirling with all sorts of ideas and concepts. We might not think things through but may be far more engrossed in the kaleidoscope of thoughts and possibilities. We do need to watch what we say and how we perceive what we hear. Miscommunications could be strong today and people could easily run off at the mouth. We may not hold anyone, including ourselves, accountable for what is being said. We are just enjoying the conversation and the camaraderie. Parties and fun are in the air, but it is important that we not assume anything presented to us as being the true reality. Today is Halloween after all. This is a day when we are given license to step out of our normal identity and costume ourselves in whatever and whomever we choose to be. Fantasy galore and make believe is at its peak.

Thursday, November 1st – This or That – Uranus, Venus, Jupiter. Did we buy too strongly into yesterday’s opportunity to get out of our own skin and play dress up? We might have, for this Thursday seems a day when we are looking at all possibilities, unrestrained by our responsibilities or what we should be doing. Today, the Gemini Moon sextiles Uranus and the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. Venus opposes Uranus. Perhaps our foray into Halloween allowed us some interesting contacts and new connections, for this Thursday we are far more interested in what is beyond our familiar and normal circumstances. We want the exciting, the thrilling and to be infatuated by life. While we might be looking at options and alternatives and considering all sorts of potentials, we should keep in mind the old saying that ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’. People, projects and situations that are new to us, different from our habitual hum-drum can be enticing and seductive. This Thursday may have us exploring all sorts of new areas for us to pursue. Testing the waters is fine. Let’s just not jump into the deep end and definitively commit to start-ups that might seem stupendous opportunities from the outside but could prove nasty entanglements if we get deeply involved. This Thursday is a day to be footloose and fancy free but to also watch our feet that we are not stepping on someone’s toes that we deeply care about. A fun day can be had if we don’t take what comes up too seriously.

Friday, November 2nd –Spinning our Wheels – Mars, Moon Void-of-Course. The whirl-a-gig of the past day and a half continues on this Friday. We start the day with the Gemini Moon opposed Mars. We are not through considering alternatives to our daily, familiar lives. We are looking for excitement, wanting to broaden our interests and wishing for some magical thing to happen to us in order to transform us into Prince Charming or Cinderella at the ball. Primarily, we still want to crawl out of our own skin and embrace a new life, a more enlivening life. It may be a seductive concept but the magical, instant transformation for ourselves is more of a process than the immediate wave of some magical wand. The funny thing is we are all going through a process of significant transformation. Unfortunately, we have become so conditioned into instant gratification that we no longer can enjoy the process but rather want the results yesterday. While we might spring from our beds early in the day ready for our grand adventures, the energy shifts and we might find ourselves merely spinning our wheels, our transmission stuck in neutral as we insistently push the pedal to the metal, get nowhere except possibly to frustration and exhaustion. We may have a concentrated focus today, but it would be far better for us to spread our involvements wide, play the xylophone rather than the one not samba, and just take care of many of the various small matters that we so often disregard. We may start the day with a major thrust of energy as the Moon opposes Mars, but the Moon then goes Void-of-Course for over twenty-two hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Gemini and before entering Cancer tomorrow. Let’s not waste our energy on great expectations or quixotic journeys today. We can consider all possibilities but more along the lines of window shopping rather than actually engaging.

Saturday, November 3rd – Paved with Good Intentions – Lunar Grand Trine, Neptune, Saturn, Lunar Grand Cross, Uranus, Pluto, Venus. There is a saying that states: ‘the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions’. This Saturday could prove the point, for this day is paradoxical at best, diabolical at its worst. The day begins with the Moon moving into its own Sign of Cancer, and as it does so, the Moon creates a Water Element Grand Trine with the Cancer Moon trine Neptune in Pisces and the Moon trine Saturn in Scorpio. We may take on the role of the Cosmic Mother and Savior to all. Using a different phrase, we might become overly co-dependent wanting to fix other people’s problems, providing them solace and taking care of whatever needs to be done. We could easily become entangled in an emotional morass whether our own personal worlds or someone else’s creation. As another saying states: ‘no good deed goes unpunished’. The snapback today can be quite extreme. Although we start the day with the Lunar Grand Trine, the Moon’s transit of Cancer then shifts to generate a Cardinal Sign Grand Cross with the Cancer Moon square Uranus in Aries, the Moon opposed Pluto in Capricorn and the Moon square Venus in Libra. Venus squares Pluto to add to the liable conflagration. Having been an enabler in my past, I am fully familiar with the sayings given above. There are times when people just don’t want to be helped. Oh, they may say they do, but the familiarity of their pain and discomfort is too strong, too much a part of their lives that they just cannot let it go. For those of us who have tried too hard to help people attached to their emotional dramas and issues, I often suggest they view the classic Luis Buñuel film Viridiana. This Saturday may start off with grand plans and good intentions, but could devolve into entanglements, disagreements and even lines drawn in the sand. Why go there? Let’s step back from getting overly involved in dysfunctional situations and take the time for an autumn cleanup and getting rid of those things that serve as irritations or that bog us down.

Sunday, November 4th – Catching our Breath – Sun, Moon Void-of-Course. After a whipsaw Saturday and a whipsaw week when there were times of being hyperactive, other times of little energy, this Sunday continues with the whipsaw. This day has very little energy to it. In the early morning hours, the Cancer Moon trines the Sun. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for thirty-five hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Cancer and before entering Leo tomorrow. In the US, this Sunday brings closure to daylight savings time and we gain an extra hour. Some of us may take an extra hour of sleep, while others of us may just add an extra hour to our day. We may find ourselves regrouping today, resting, relaxing and without feeling the need to push ourselves much further than the dining table. We might hole up today, watch sporting events and just not feel the need to push ourselves to do much of anything today. And it could be well justified, since this week has been like a roller coaster with times of thrills and excitement, other times just chugging along. Even if we look to stay at home and recharge our batteries, it would be wise to keep in mind that Mercury will be turning retrograde this coming week, on Tuesday, Election Day in the US. And we all know what Mercury retrograde indicates. Murphy’s Law of ‘whatever can go wrong could go wrong’ will be back upon us. We could use this Sunday to our advantage by taking care of outstanding and significant matters and doing whatever we feel is important and needs to be done before we get into the Mercury retrograde three-week cycle.
