August 20th – 26th, 2012

This week can have us continuing to bump along, swing high, swing low, with all sorts of variations in between. There are two major Sign changes this week — the Sun moving into Virgo, Mars moving into Scorpio — that can have us focused on the specifics and the particulars with grave intensity. Like a rabid dog with its teeth sunk into a trouser’s leg, we may feel that once focused we are unwilling to let go until we take a solid bite out of our projects, our plans, our intentions.

While the energy this week can shift between great intensity and severe fatigue, we may find ourselves pulled back towards our daily obligations and normal responsibilities. Whether we have had a chance to engage re-creational activities during this summer, summer is receding to a glimmer as we become consumed with what needs to be done. We may still seek out some fun activities during this week, but our attention is back on the track whether we are running on it or preparing to do a mad dash for it.

The week begins with us reaching out and connecting with all sorts of people. We want to be certain that we have covered our bases in regard to the people we need to address in order to lay the groundwork for our exploits. We may have to do the tai chi moves early in the week, bobbing and weaving, as we seek to get to where we want to go, all the while that curveballs of unexpected situations and unintended consequences come up to knock us off the straight and narrow. We may discover the fallacy to the old concept, drummed into us as schoolchildren, that ‘the shortest distance between two points is a straight line’. That may be all well and good in a two-dimensional reality, but our reality is far from two-dimensional with various curves, angles and the new truth of asequential realities where the linear, sequential approach gives way to the non-linear, synchronistic and asequential world. It’s a brand new day and a brand new methodology is called for.

Often attributed to Albert Einstein and especially apt for our times, the definition of insanity is ‘doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’

The so-called ‘tried and true’ may have been tried, no longer true.

While our focus at the beginning of the week might be on our relationships and interactions with other people, the mid-week period sees the energy ratchet up several fold as the Sun moves into Virgo on Wednesday, followed on Thursday by Mars moving into its own Sign of Scorpio.

If we have felt that people have been going around with a chip on their shoulder [and who hasn’t experienced the general liability to orneriness recently?], then this week could have some people willing to knock that chip from someone else’s shoulder. Any accommodations to diplomacy and niceties can be lost to adversarial attitudes and downright nasty confrontations. There can be a great deal of saber rattling and not only rattling during this mid-week period on. People can be hypercritical, focusing on the most insignificant aspects to call attention to, and whining, blaming and bemoaning their state of affairs, other people’s issues and the world at large.

The end of the week and the weekend could have us either crawling up the walls or just getting out of Dodge. We may want to leave the week behind, and the weekend does seem far more pleasant especially if we can be out and about, not feel constrained and able to stretch and spread our wings.

Like life right now, this week can be a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Monday, August 20th – Reach Out of the Darkness – Lunar Grand Cross, Pluto, Uranus, Sun, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter. One of the great songs of the 1960’s, ‘Reach out of the Darkness’ was what could be considered a one-hit wonder by the duo Friend and Lover. This Monday can be reminiscent of the song and the duo, for today begins with the Libra Moon creating a Cardinal Sign Grand Cross as the Moon squares Pluto in Capricorn and the Moon opposes Uranus in Aries and later the Moon squares Venus in Cancer. We have been dealing with the Uranus Pluto square by Sign at least for the past two plus years and this configuration of Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn continues on until Uranus finally exits Aries in 2019 [Pluto will finally exit Capricorn in 2023]. The push pull between the iconoclastic, free spirit of the unique individual and the breakdown of rules, regulations of traditional institutions is engaged during this time. Every time this Square is triggered, as it is today with the Libra Moon, we could find ourselves and other people banging and crashing around, all the while that we are reaching out of the darkness and trying to find OUR way within dramatically changing parameters. This Grand Cross, being in the Cardinal Signs, talks of a great deal of initiation, new beginnings but possibly not greased wheels to get from here to where we might want to go. On the contrary, we could find impediments placed in our way and we do have to be aware of other people’s sensitivities and their personal needs. Awareness is one thing but accommodation to the point of capitulation is something totally different. Let’s not go there. This Monday also has the Sun sextile Mars and the Libra Moon sextile Mercury and the Moon trine Jupiter. If we can do the tai chi moves, work with the energy, engage needed twists and turns, then we could indeed reach out of the darkness and engage both friend and lover in a healthy discourse of ideas, intentions and even our winning adherents to our side. This day may seem like a mixed bag, but let’s always keep in mind the tai chi moves. Life is shifting and changing, sometimes subtly, other times drastically, but often within a nanosecond.

Tuesday, August 21st – Hush, hush – Saturn. Those of you who read my weekly, monthly, seasonal energy patterns are familiar with my reaching back into my memory banks for various songs that come to mind when I’m looking at the energy configurations. Some of you might feel that I’m trapped in the 1960’s – 1970’s musical era, but for me some of the great music was written and recorded during those times. All of which leads me to Tuesday when the Libra Moon today conjuncts Saturn. Not much else is going on. It is the last full day of the Sun’s transit of Leo. In the late 1960’s Deep Purple had a hit with ‘Hush’, which had been written by Joe South and earlier recorded by Billy Joe Royal. After a fairly energetic Monday and as a prelude to an energetic Wednesday, this Tuesday is far more hushed, even to the point of being drained and feeling emotionally wiped out. The Moon Saturn configuration could have us reaching back into our contact list and connecting with someone with whom we have had no interaction for a while. Our plans could be interrupted by someone else’s needs and we do have to be wary of a no-win situation, whereby no matter how much we do or what we do for someone, they might feel we could and should do more. Healthy boundaries today are important for we may otherwise get overly involved in someone else’s issues. As I often mention to people: ‘Misery loves company. Just don’t make it your company.’

Wednesday, August 22nd – One Foot In, One Foot Out – Mars, Sun, Neptune, Pluto, Mercury, Jupiter, Sun Virgo. The early morning hours of Wednesday have the Libra Moon conjunct Mars and the Moon sextile the Sun. The Moon then goes into Scorpio where the Moon trines Neptune and the Moon sextiles Pluto. Wednesday also has Mercury sextile Jupiter and the Sun exiting Leo to enter Virgo. This day is paradoxical in the sense that we might have a desire to enjoy the warmth of the summer sun but our nagging inclinations are drawn back to our routine responsibilities. To some degree, we have one foot in summer, enjoying interactions with other people and chatting them up, while the other foot is focused on what needs to be done and how it can be done expeditiously. If we would blend a sunny optimistic disposition with an intently focused approach we could virtually move mountains today. People may be drawn to the warmth of our presentation and might admire our persistent determination. This is a day when we could devise a best practices methodology and sell our ideas to other people with confidence and enthusiasm. We can combine a big picture perspective with all the salient details necessary to realize our plans. We might prefer to luxuriate in the summer sun, but it would be wiser still to take advantage of the opportunities to get things done, win supporters to our cause, and move our projects forward smoothly and effortlessly.

Thursday, August 23rd – Stewing in Our Own Juices – Mercury, Venus, Moon Void-of-Course, Mars Scorpio. Thursday begins with the Moon still transiting through Scorpio. In the early morning hours, the Scorpio Moon squares Mercury and the Moon trines Venus. We may start the day a little out of sorts. We might not be able to put our finger on what is bothering us, but we could feel slighted or unappreciated. If we can, we might even choose to stay home, putter around the house and not deal with the vagaries out in the world at large. We can make all sorts of excuses why we should stay put rather than venturing out, but the bottom line is that we may just not feel as though we are operating on all eight cylinders. The Moon then goes Void-of-Course for over twenty-five hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Scorpio and before entering Sagittarius tomorrow. Mars on this Thursday exits Libra to enter its own Sign of Scorpio. Any sense of hurt or personal injustice done to us can have us seething with resentment. With Mars in Scorpio, where it will be until early October, intensity can be ratcheted up again. There can be a sense of ‘take no prisoners’ with people doing whatever they can, and feel they need to, in order to achieve their desires. More things may be operating behind the scenes, in a secretive manner, than total transparency or things operating out in front. With the lack of energy on this day, we may not do an outward, frontal attack but rather sit, sulk and stew in our own juices.

Friday, August 24th – Thrashing About – Lunar T-Square, Sun, Neptune, Uranus. With Mars now in Scorpio we can certainly build up a head of steam. Let’s keep in mind one of the attributes of Scorpio, and not necessarily the most positive of characteristics, is the ability to harbor ill feelings, which impels someone to never forget slights and hurts but rather to wait, no matter how long, until the most advantageous moment to spring and gut the offending perpetrator of wrongs and hurts. It’s similar to Oscar Wilde’s statement that ‘to people with good taste, vengeance is best served cold’. Mars transits Scorpio through early October, and we can certainly see some intense retaliations during this period. This Friday has the Sun opposed Neptune and the Moon in Sagittarius creating a Mutable Sign T-Square with the Moon square Neptune in Pisces and the Moon square the Sun in Virgo. We might have a sense of how things should be operating but seeing only dysfunctionality and lack of clarity all around. Not that we are immune from this dizzying energy. No, we too may be thoroughly confused today. Whatever we hear, we should take with a grain of salt. Things may not be as they appear. The tricksters, spinmeisters and hypesters can be in full play today. We may feel as though we have an itch under our skin that we just cannot relieve, and we might find ourselves thrashing about. This is a day not to make any definitive commitments nor carve things in stone. We might not have full information and could be easily deceived. The latter part of the day has the Moon trine Uranus. Our relief for the day could be stepping away from what we feel we need to get done, taking a breather and considering options and alternatives. Although it might be wise to put pressing matters on the backburner, if we proceed with our nagging responsibilities let’s be highly sensitive to evaluating and re-evaluating every step of the way. To repeat, this day can be utterly confusing, with mixed signals given us, and instead of thrashing about, we might want to step off the track and take some time in appealing distractions and diversions.

Saturday, August 25th – Back in Our Bodies – Jupiter, Mercury. After a day of our head spinning around, last evening could have provided some relief, especially if we did something new and different from what is ordinarily expected of us. Saturday continues with the Sagittarius Moon, which today opposes Jupiter and trines Mercury. We may decide to take on a great deal today. Perhaps we didn’t accomplish as much as we wanted yesterday. We might have felt stuck in quicksand without a vine to pull ourselves out. We may have played the Keystone Kops with everyone and everything proving to be dysfunctional at best, if not utterly reckless and self-sabotaging. We may feel on this Saturday as though we are back in our bodies, confident, enthusiastic and ready to take on the world, even the universe. While a positive attitude is an important factor in any action taken or decision made, we might need to put a slight damper on our confidence and optimism. We could be a little over the top today. If we take on too much on this Saturday, we have to be careful that we don’t just gloss over things, assuming that we have taken care of situations, all the while that certain significant details are falling between the cracks. Today is a day to harness our exuberance and make it work for us. We are likely to have a lot going on, but it would be wise to keep in mind the old saying that ‘the devil is in the details’.

Sunday, August 26th – Full Tilt – Saturn, Mars, Neptune, Sun, Pluto, Uranus. We often think of Sunday as a day of rest. Such a belief does not play on this Sunday, for this day is action packed and a day when we might go full tilt on a number of different fronts. Late Saturday, early Sunday, the Sagittarius Moon sextiles Saturn. Mars trines Neptune. The Moon then moves into Capricorn where the Moon today sextiles Neptune, sextiles Mars, trines the Sun, conjuncts Pluto and squares Uranus. This day is a day when we can focus on where we want to go and what we want to do. We can clean out the clutter, clear the decks, and be expeditious in dealing with what needs to be done. We can be highly accomplished today, and we may have our nose to the grindstone. We might choose to put aside some of our fun activities in order to fix things up, attend to errands and focus on our intended goals. We are determined, passionate and have a great deal of energy to expend. We can get more done today than at other times. We can work effectively and resourcefully with no extraneous matters getting in the way. This Sunday could have us operating at our optimum, and we might be surprised at the end of the day by how much we have achieved.
