This week brings the end of 2009 and the beginning of the New Year of 2010. Many people will be happy to bring this year to a close, and this week could have us considering what we want to complete before the end of the year and what we want to bring into the new year. This is a good time to review, rework and resolve important matters. Out with the old, in with the new with the eternal hope that we don’t have to carry a lot of old baggage to weigh us down, and get in our way as we come into the new year.
We may not be operating at optimum energy. We might feel exhausted and things may take longer than we like. We may be impatient wanting to get on with things. Let’s try to take our time, be clear and specific in our communications and avoid creating difficulties in our personal relationships.
Responsibilities might have to be addressed and we may have to go out of our way for someone. It would be advised to do what needs to be done without much emotion or resentment. Now is a time to cut to the core, eliminate outmoded situations and focus on what truly has meaning and purpose for us. We might decide to go through our address book, our calendar of events and evaluate those people and situations that make our life better and those that demand more than we get back in return.
New Year’s Eve might be better spent in quiet time reflecting on where we have been and where we wish to go rather than engaged in the obligatory social occasion. New Year’s Eve has a Lunar Eclipse with the Cancer Full Moon creating a Cardinal Sign T-Square as the Cancer Moon squares Saturn and opposes Pluto, Venus and the Sun. Add to the mix Mercury retrograde and we could find getting around to be hard sledding, or slipping and sliding. And with those well-lubricated on the highways and byways, extreme caution on New Year’s Eve is key.
Although the New Year starts with a bang and the popping of champagne corks, we might feel as if 2010 is starting off with a whimper. No matter how determined we are or how fast we try to move things forward, the early part of the New Year and this weekend could feel as if life is progressing by slow motion and, at times, even moving backwards.
The long New Year holiday weekend could be best served by hanging with friends, taking in a movie or just enjoying ourselves, all the while giving ourselves extra time to get anywhere.
Let’s keep in mind that attitude in life is everything. We can see the half glass of water as half empty or half full. It is our choice, always our choice.
Happy New Year!
Monday, December 28th – Back to Basics – Venus, Pluto, Mercury, Uranus, Lunar T-Square, Mars, Neptune, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course. Monday could be slightly intense. The Saturn Pluto square is engaged, first today by Venus conjunct Pluto and then tomorrow with Venus square Saturn. Interactions with other people could prove dicey. Perhaps the holidays are not meeting expectations or just not what some people were hoping for. Or people can just be incredibly short with one another, not cutting other people enough slack with some people considering ending relationships or reading the riot act to those who have slighted them or upset them. Any way you slice it, this Monday could be prickly. The Moon in Taurus trines Mercury and sextiles Uranus, so there are ways of considering how best to streamline operations. Of course, some of the ways considered may also be eliminating, getting rid of and releasing situations and people from our lives. The Taurus Moon also creates a Fixed Sign T-Square with the Moon square retrograde Mars in Leo and square both Neptune and Jupiter in Aquarius. There may not be a whole lot of happy campers today. We might feel squeezed by our finances, or feel that our resources are not keeping up with our ambitions and our hoped-for recreational pursuits. We could feel stymied today and it would be wise to avoid reacting to our frustrations by lashing out at other people or losing it in a frenzy of self-indulgence. As the day progresses, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over seven hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Taurus and before entering Gemini. The best use of today’s energy is in reflection and consideration rather than action. Let’s think about how we can best utilize our resources — our time, our energy, our monies. And let’s try and avoid throwing down the gauntlet and creating problems with other people.
Tuesday, December 29th – Recapitulation, Memories and Reconnections – Venus, Saturn. Tuesday continues with the Saturn Pluto square influence. Today, Venus squares Saturn and the Gemini Moon trines Saturn. Tuesday can be a day when the ghosts of the past come forward. We might find that we are talking about our past, reconnecting with people from our past or feeling demands placed upon us that we might have been willing to tackle months, years ago but are no longer in our game plan. On the one hand, our walk down Memory Lane could be haunting, but it could also prove a necessary revisit in order to re-vision. The Venus Saturn square is enhanced by the fact that Venus is transiting Capricorn, the Sign ruled by Saturn, and Saturn is transiting Libra, the Sign ruled by Venus. This Mutual Reception may harken back to days of our past, yet may also have us being asked to take care of other people’s issues. The question of how we deal with other people’s needs is paramount today. We can best serve them by giving them advice rather than being co-dependent and doing it for them. We all know the allegory of giving people fish and feeding them a meal or teaching them to fish and giving them a skill to feed themselves for a lifetime. So too is it for ourselves today. We might be asked to go out of our way for someone. We don’t have to raise our hackles and tell them a defiant no. We can act as a sounding board and offer them advice regarding how they can best proceed with their matters.
Wednesday, December 30th – Finding the Joy – Mars, Uranus, Neptune, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course. Wednesday is an inverse of Monday. While we might have been seething on Monday with continued steam on Tuesday, Wednesday is a day when we can make amends, walk on the sunny side of the street and embrace the joy and happiness that endings and beginnings allow for. Today the Moon in Gemini sextiles Mars, squares Uranus and trines both Neptune and Jupiter. This Wednesday can be a day when we are reaching out to other people, enjoying the camaraderie whether in person or by phone, email or snail mail. Although unexpected situations could arise that shift our plans, we’re able to better handle changes. We’re more adaptable, flexible today and less rigid in our opinions or our plans. We may want to take some time to ready ourselves for the upcoming New Year weekend, possibly socializing more than working, looking to celebrate rather than deliberate and wanting to go from one joyous occasion to another. We may all be wishing each other an attitude of gratitude that 2009 is almost behind us, even akin to the biblical concept of ‘devil, get thee behind me’. As the day progresses, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over six hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Gemini and before entering Cancer. The latter part of the day could find us at home resting up for tomorrow’s New Year’s Eve celebrations or hunkering down for a long weekend of catching our breath then seeking out some fun events.
Thursday, December 31st – Out With the Old, In With… – Lunar Eclipse, Lunar T-Square, Pluto, Saturn, Venus, Sun. Thursday is New Year’s Eve, the last day of 2009 and waiting to cross the threshold into 2010, the beginning of a new year and the beginning of the second decade of the twenty-first century. This day could be potentially explosive and not just with popping of champagne bottles, fireworks and party favors blasting out the old year and celebrating the new year. The Cancer Full Moon is a Lunar Eclipse and creates a Lunar Cardinal Sign T-Square with the Cancer Moon square Saturn in Libra and opposing Pluto, Venus and the Sun in Capricorn. Although many of us would like to assume that the worst of these last eighteen months is behind us, I am reminded of the 1965 hit song by Barry McGuire ‘Eve of Destruction’ with it’s lyrics: ‘… you tell me over and over again my friend, ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction.’ Now, I don’t want to be a party pooper or a parade rainer but I would suggest that we still have some significant challenges to address over the next few years. And this Thursday could be indicative of some of the energies we may have to contend with. Some characteristics of this day and these energies seem to include impetuous actions, leaping before we look, feeling that we have to do something, anything, a confrontational attitude in regard to our interactions with other people with a sense of vulnerability enlisting the old dictum of a strong offense is a good defense. People may be slightly on edge today. There could be delays and frustrations. Some people may want to stay at home. Others may want to party. There can be differences of opinions shared today that could create tension in relationships. Today is one of those days when it would be wise to count to ten before any reaction or action. Let’s keep in mind the attitude of gratitude, that things could always get worse and things can always get better. Our disposition and our attitude will be a determining factor in how we see and en joy life.
Friday, January 1st – Taking Note – Mercury, Uranus, Moon Void-of-Course. Friday begins with the Cancer Moon opposed retrograde Mercury, then trine Uranus before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for almost eleven hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Cancer and before entering Leo. We might start the day in reflection of where we have been and where we want to go. We may realize that the New Year gives us license to make changes, changes to our patterns of behavior, changes to our activities and changes regarding how we choose to do life. We might come to the realization that the old ways no longer work during these times. If we accept a key aspect of this paradigm shift being that we do not have to make things happen or the insistence of our trying to master our universe, then we could move into a far more synchronistic mode, being aware of the energies unfolding and working with the energies in co-creating our destiny. We are entering magic times, but in so doing the old rules, the old playbooks and the old programs may not work as effectively as in times past. This Friday is a good day to go through things, tie up loose ends and get out of our own way. As eastern philosophies often indicate, there is a great advantage to non-action. It allows us to become aware, more mindful, of the circumstances and conditions around us. It offers us the ability to be in harmony with the natural unfolding, the unfolding of the parameters that serve as a backdrop to our lives and the unfolding of our own individual life journeys. WE DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Like a life surfer, we can wait, catch the wave and ride it by becoming one with its rhythm and cycles. A new year begins today, so let’s take note.
Saturday, January 2nd – Sharing the Good Times – Saturn. With the Moon in Leo today, we are likely to put our emphasis upon having some fun. Whether we are participants in joyous occasions or decide to enjoy as spectators some pleasurable events, we want to have a good time today. The Moon sextiles Saturn and we may be looking to get together with that someone special and find an uplifting and renewing activity to share. We might also reach out to those people from our past, whether dropping them a note, sending them an email or ringing them up on the phone. While we are starting a New Year, we might also take into account the steps along the way that have brought us to today, and we might fondly remember those people who have crossed our paths during our journey. Today is a good day to compliment and appreciate. None of us are islands unto ourselves. Our life is sprinkled with those delights we have enjoyed in sharing experiences with others. Let’s celebrate. Let’s enjoy. We might make plans with other people, filling our schedule to overflow. Whatever we decide to do, let’s keep in mind that are things are conditional, that our choices and commitments are good at the time that we make them and that life can shift the parameters whereby such plans, commitments and decisions have to shift and change. Remember the keywords of these times: flexibility and adaptability.
Sunday, January 3rd – Trying to do it All – Mars, Neptune, Jupiter, Moon Void-of-Course. Sunday continues with the Leo Moon which today conjuncts Mars and opposes both Neptune and Jupiter. We may be impassioned, energized and wanting to cover all the bases. Nothing is too much for us, except the fact that we are limited by the diurnal measurement of time. In other words, we might not have time to do everything that we might want to do. One of our challenges during these times is between what we personally want and what is best for the greater good. This challenge could arise today. We might have our heart focused on something but we might find our desires are in conflict with someone else. There could be a battle of wills today with each of us assuming that we know what is right, what is best. Remember that the challenges of these times are flexibility and adaptability, and that we have to get off our high horse of wanting what we want solely because we want it. We need to see ourselves within the larger context of the world at large. Today allows us to test those parameters. Are we willing to come to a consensus among our friends regarding what to do? Or are we going to stomp our feet and throw a childish tantrum trying to enforce our will on plans with other people? Our choice, always our choice. If we don’t get involved in a battle of wills, then this day allows for some pleasurable activities, some fun times. We just might not be able to do it all. As the day progresses, the Moon goes Void-of-Course for almost five hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Leo and before entering Virgo. The day comes to closure with us thinking about getting back on the track of our normal routine. We may feel the holidays coming to a close and the importance of dealing with our routine affairs.
