August 31st – September 6th

This week is a week to get our house in order.  Putting plans into action, making preparation for the autumn activities can be a good use of this week’s energies.  Now is a time to take care of details, ring up old friends, and bring completion to outstanding matters.  Although we might be far more interested in social engagements than dealing with our daily responsibilities, it would be wise to focus on important issues and to address significant decisions.

Next week starts another Mercury retrograde, and we all know what that means.  Murphy’s Law of ‘whatever can go wrong will’ is more in effect next week through the rest of the month.  Whatever we can accomplish this week, the less problems we’ll have to contend with over the course of the month.

Our compassion may be called upon this week.  Some people might want us to take care of situations of their own making.  Advice and counsel could prove helpful but we do need to avoid getting entangled in other people’s problems.

The weekend could be a high intensity time.  No matter what plans we have scheduled, we might find that more winds up on our plate than we bargained for.  We may be exhausted not only by what we have planned for this weekend but also by contending with unexpected situations that come up.  Flexibility is essential this week, as well as the ability to occasionally just say ‘no’.

[An interesting side note

For last week’s energy patterns, I mentioned Wednesday as being a highly charged day due to the Mercury square Pluto and Mars opposed Pluto.  Pluto is like a volcanic eruption, either effusive or explosive, but a shapeshifter nonetheless.  Pluto speaks to transformations, dying to the old to be born to the new.  Pluto Mars configurations can be extreme with intense life and death situations at play.  Americans awoke on Wednesday to the news that Senator Edward Kennedy had passed over.  Much was made of the passing of an era, of a political dynasty that had three brothers serve as US Senators and one of those brothers becoming President of the United States.  While Ted Kennedy’s passing was from brain cancer, his two brothers were slain by assassination.  In all three instances, Mars – Pluto was impactful.  In Senator Ted Kennedy’s passing, it occurred at a time that Mars was opposed Pluto.  On November 22, 1963, US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.  At the time, Mars was in orb of a square to Pluto.  On June 5th, 1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot in Los Angeles and died the following day.  At the time, Mars was exactly square to Pluto.  The death of Senator Ted Kennedy could well bring an end to a political dynasty.  Children of these Senators and President have tried elective office, but none seem to come close to the success and veneration of the three Kennedy brothers.]

Monday, August 31st – Back on Track – Saturn, Uranus, Moon Void-of-Course.  Monday begins the week and ends the month of August with us looking at getting back on track, taking care of business and streamlining our activities.  The day starts with the Capricorn Moon trine Saturn and sextile Uranus.  We can accomplish a great deal early in the day, both in regard to our normal daily activities and also new interests we might choose to pursue.  We are serious, business-like and pragmatic in regard to what we need to get done.  We also are considering the most effective and expeditious ways to accomplish our goals.  While the day starts with our focused intent, the Moon then goes Void-of-Course for nine and a half hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Capricorn and before entering Aquarius.  This week has three significant Void-of-Course Moons, so we could experience a frenzy of activity followed by an extended lull.  The more we can work with the energies, taking advantage of thrusts of energy when we have them and diminishing our expectations during the lull period, the more productive and successful we shall be.  Astrology is like weather forecasting.  It makes us aware of the likely conditions and makes suggestions as to how best to prepare for those conditions.

Tuesday, September 1st – Reach Out, with a Little Humility – Mercury, Venus.  Tuesday has the Aquarius Moon trine Mercury and opposed Venus.  Let’s keep in mind that next week starts the three-week Mercury retrograde cycle.  The more we can get done prior to the Mercury retrograde, the better it would be.  Mercury retrogrades are far better for the ‘re’s’ of our lives — review, rework, reconsider, repeat.  On this Tuesday our communications can provide startling insights both for us and for other people.  Discussions can raise options and alternatives that not have been previously considered.  Today is a good day to think outside the box, brainstorm with friends and consider our plans for the future.  Where we have to be a little careful is in how we discuss things, how we reach out to other people and how we present ourselves.  There could be a tendency for people to be a little too self-assured, thinking they have all the answers, know it all but without recognizing the slippery slope we as a society are on, where things may appear one way one day, and totally different the next day.  We’ve entered a time of magic and miracles but in so doing we have also moved into a phase whereby certainty is nothing more than hoped-for conjecture.  Let’s enjoy our interactions with other people and appreciate the uniqueness and individual perspective of each other.

Wednesday, September 2nd – On the Upside – Jupiter.  Wednesday has the Aquarius Moon conjunct Jupiter.  We may feel in an upbeat mood, concentrating more on our future plans and social get-togethers than on our daily existence or our obligations.  This Wednesday could be considered a ‘mental health’ day, a day to look at things from the sunny side of the street.  We’re not interested in problems, issues or emotional entanglements.  We may be a little cool and detached but we are also upbeat and likely to be feeling good about our lives.  Yes, we can acknowledge the concerns of these times but we’re not allowing them to trip us up.  Where a problem could arise is that in acknowledging certain problematic areas we may also be discounting their influence or possible impact.  Let’s be optimistic and enthusiastic but also realistic and pragmatic.  We can feel as if we could do no wrong on this day, but today’s energy cautions us to look before we leap.

Thursday, September 3rd – Going for the Gold – Mercury, Mars, Neptune, Moon Void-of-Course, Pluto.  Thursday has Mercury square Mars.  The Aquarius Moon conjuncts Neptune before the Moon goes Void-of-Course for over ten and a half hours making no further connections to the planets as it finishes its transit of Aquarius before entering Pisces where it sextiles Pluto and trines Mars.  People may be insistent about the correctness of their opinions.  Let’s keep in mind that for many people a strong defense is a good offense.  Any reticence or insecurity is often masked by forceful actions or belligerent attitudes.  If we can restrain a tendency towards impulsive behavior, this day can be one when we might feel as though we are moving in time with manifest destiny.  We have a passion and determination today to cut to the core, focus on the essentials and then go full steam ahead.  This Thursday can be a highly productive day and even more so if we maintain grace and decorum as we move towards advancing our objectives.

Friday, September 4th – Betwixt and Between – Pisces Full Moon, Sun.  Friday has the Pisces Full Moon opposed the Sun in Virgo.  To some degree, we are also reinvigorating the Saturn Uranus opposition that has been in play since the Fall of ’08 and continues on into mid 2010.  Our emotions can be heightened today.  We might feel anxious about the future or the conditions occurring around us.  We may question whether we have taken care of all the necessary details, taken into account unexpected variables that might have arisen and considered alternate objectives counter to our habitual patterns.  The battle of old and new could be engaged today, but it would be important for us to neither rely on past procedures based on fear and a need for familiar security or jump into changes based upon a desire for something different without considering the full ramifications. If the energy gets the better of us, then we could feel like we’re flipping from one anxiety to another, feeling victimized, unable to create reality but rather a sense of having to react to the conditions around us.  If we take our time and don’t feel that we have to react to situations, we can envision our plans in a structured and detailed manner.  It demands that we take a proactive approach but doing so in a methodical and focused way.

Saturday, September 5th – High Anxiety – Saturn, Uranus, Moon Void-of-Course, Pluto.  If yesterday didn’t trigger us into feeling anxious and having to react to situations rather than being in control of our lives, then Saturday could take us there.  And if we did feel anxious yesterday, then today could have us a little over the top.  Saturday has the Pisces Moon opposed Saturn in Virgo and conjunct Uranus.  The early part of the day could have us going from our obligations and our ‘to do’ list to handling unexpected situations that might crop up.  We may feel that we’re juggling a number of different activities, not all of our making.  We might also have the sense that we’re caught in a vortex unable to break free, although wanting to chuck it all and head off to a beach or a day spa.  Even if we can get away today, we still might feel under the gun of expectations.  Although we could begin the day somewhat frantic and becoming frenzied, the day shifts gears as the Moon goes Void-of-Course for almost nine and a half hours as the Moon finishes its transit of Pisces without making any further connections to the planets and before it enters Aries where it squares Pluto.  The day may begin as an intense whirlwind, whereby we could feel like we’re spinning our wheels, only to slow down, before speeding up with our personal interests either being downplayed or problems arising as a result of a backup or screw-up in plans.  We might end the day wondering where the day went and with a sense of a hangover from banging our head against the wall.  The key to this day is not to take anything personally, recognize that stuff happens and try to bend to changing circumstances without much attachment to the unfolding or the outcome.

Sunday, September 6th – Under My Skin – Lunar T-Square, Mercury, Mars.  Today has the Moon in Aries creating a Cardinal Sign T-Square as the Moon opposes Mercury in Libra and squares Mars in Cancer.  Yesterday might have had us juggling various situations, some of which not of our making.  Today could have us juggling various situations that we have chosen to initiate.  We may want what we want today and that could create some friction with other people.  People might expect us to behave according to definition, the way they characterize us based upon past experiences.  But we’re more likely to be looking at asserting ourselves, even to the point of pushing the envelope and creating ripples in our interactions with other people.  Let’s keep in mind that Mercury is turning retrograde early tomorrow, late tonight in some locales.  Our communications can be off.  We might have difficulty getting from place to place, and the possibility of being misunderstood or misunderstanding could prove strong.  We may want to focus on what we want but let’s try to be considerate of other people’s feelings and not step on too many toes.  This Sunday may be a time for us to test waters but not to plumb the depths.
